Simon's heart still hurt a little from all of the losses he had endured lately, but as he'd thought the other day, he no longer felt like being miserable. Even in spite of them, he knew he still had a lot to be thankful for.

"Good morning!" she called as soon as the door was opened, managing a smile in honest delight, not just for the sake of appearances. "Um, I brought bread, and I hope this is a good time?"

"Good morning, Kagerou. There is never a bad time," he said sincerely, stepping aside to let her in. "Come in, come in. As you can probably smell, I was just cooking breakfast; would you like to join me?"

"I'd like that very much," she said, following him to the kitchen. The house still echoed of Koi sometimes, but she was beginning to see it more as the place where Simon and Qi lived, not the place where their father no longer lived.
"You look better," she said and meant it. "Well, not that I've seen you properly in a while."

"Good morning!" She slanted a smile at Bellflower. "Oh, it's been a while, hasn't it? This month hasn't hit you too hard yet, hopefully? It's been a little mad, even for the Sphere."
Reply
"And you - have you been keeping well?"

Absently, she touched the thick braids wound around her head in a sort of crown, to keep her mass of hair out of the way. "Ms. Bellflower? Could I ask you something? You know... about medicine, right, I mean the way Simon does? Do you think you were a doctor back where we came from?"

And who better to mingle with than a very good friend? He hoped she wasn't busy today, though he had a little bit of a nervous sinking feeling when he knocked on the door.
With a crinkle of cellophane, he hid his arms and a vibrant burst of color behind his back. He hoped she didn't have an allergy or anything... wait, crap, what if she did!?

The knock on the door was a welcome distraction. She rose from her seat at the kitchen table, hastily straightened her ponytail and her skirt, and hurried to the door.
"I'm coming--oh, hello!" The sight of her friend pulled a smile to her tired face, her eyes sparking with gladness. "Come on in, I'm sorry it's a little messy, yesterday was..."

"Please, Kagerou, don't worry about it! You should see what's left of my place!" He then said with a shake of his head and a laugh. He was quite used to sleeping outside at this point, and just in time for the weather to start warming up for spring! After two instances of his home being blown to bits, he was tired of that little shack, anyway.
"I won't pry, either, but I hope things are looking up for you! ...And I brought you some... uh," He brought a bouquet of spring flowers from behind his back, looking them over for a moment while looking absolutely perplexed ( ... )

With that, she bustled towards the kitchen, still speaking over her shoulder. "Lunch sounds really wonderful, actually. I had a bit of a scare yesterday. You know how some people have had trouble with, um, people who are very much like them, but kind of nasty? One of my friends ran into his, and... it got sort of awful.
"I'm sorry, I'm prattling your ear off. Lunch, yes, right now, yes. That sounds good."

He had almost been worried that Lin had scared the girl off, at first. Between her initial vindictive accusations and then the sheer anger at his intervention in their argument-- Well, he'd just be glad that the crazy woman was no where to be seen or heard. Still, Kagerou's persistence had definitely won her points.
He shifted where he stood, hands tucking back into the pockets of his coat to escape from the faint chill. It wasn't terrible, of course, but still noticeable. "We can find someplace else if it ain't."

"That's fine!" she called, skittering the last steps to catch up to him. The piles of jetsam and flotsam inevitably drew her eye every which way, but she was here to socialise in some sense. "I'm sure there's something around here we can use as seats. It's a little cold to sit on the ground."
She paused then, squinting a little. "You really don't mind, just coming down here and making a fire? I mean, this is sort of an adventure for me, but..."

"It's more interesting than just grabbing something to eat, at least." And a little less informal. It was just time spent between friends, rather than creating any need to impress, or worry about misunderstandings from others. He paused, crouching for a moment to grab what appeared to be half of an old couch cushion, stuffing and foam sticking out the torn end sadly. Better than nothing, though he continued looking.
"Fires're nice in the winter, anyway."

She unshouldered her satchel (with the hot chocolate and marshmallows, she could hardly claim to be hosting this outing without something by way of snacks) and looked around. They had the room to make a fire, but without fuel it wouldn't do much good. Finding a foothold, she scampered up a pile of junk towards a likely-looking, tattered cardboard box.
"Um," she said, peering into the box. "We have... I think old phone books of some kind? They should burn pretty well, though." She gathered the box in her arms and slip-slid rather dangerously down the heap, but ended up on her feet.
"It is a little different. To be honest, I kind of wanted a bit of a break in the routine. The bar is a lot of work."

She'd left Wolf at home for this round - if it worked, she could always drag him back for his, but she figured it was worth scoping out solo. Anyway, he'd complain and tell her not to go near the pole this time (not her fault, it had been wacky Tree stuff) and generally be disapproving at her for trying again. It wasn't her fault the Griff guy had, um, y'know, and she felt awful about it in the detached way you did, typically, about people you didn't really know but who seemed like they'd deserved better than that, but...nobody could fault her for seeing a window of opportunity and sticking a foot in, right? Maybe she could toast to him with it or something, she decided, and with that, attempted to set aside the ( ... )

"Good evening, what can I get you?" She smiled, doing her best not to let her creeping weariness show. "Something not too strong, maybe? We don't really card visitors here, but you do look a little young, if you don't mind my saying."

Overall this was so completely different from what Marbles had been expecting that she wasted a long second or two gawping before she remembered that that was a good way to trap flies and quickly shut her mouth.
"Hi!" she chirped. "You work here? Seriously? That's crazy, you're so lucky. I'm Marbles, I just came for my newborn drink ( ... )

And she would hold the alcohol, she decided as she looked the girl over. She had never asked Grift if the newborn drink offer extended to virgin drinks, but her best judgment was what went in this place now, and her best judgment said Marbles was probably a little young to be served the full order, as it were.
With that, she turned towards the assortment of fruit juices and liqueur bottles at the back of the bar. "Any preference for the fruit? We have at least apple, orange and cranberry, and I can probably dig up pineapple, too..."
