Kagerou's Home and the Bazaar- February 16th, 11:46 its_me_hooray February 15 2011, 20:26:59 UTC
For the last few days, it had been a real test of strength and willpower, the very best kind for him! ...Only not. He hadn't quite noticed, moving around so much during the average day that he somehow managed to avoid embarrassment. Today, however, amid the light flurries adding to the powder that covered the ground, Night decided to spend his day off mingling.

And who better to mingle with than a very good friend? He hoped she wasn't busy today, though he had a little bit of a nervous sinking feeling when he knocked on the door.

With a crinkle of cellophane, he hid his arms and a vibrant burst of color behind his back. He hoped she didn't have an allergy or anything... wait, crap, what if she did!?

Kagerou had returned from her morning visit to Wellspring and the recovering Toushi, and was currently giving serious thought to keeping the bar closed for today. Yesterday's events had rattled her, and she was sure Axel worried, too, even if he was much more apt at hiding it than her.

The knock on the door was a welcome distraction. She rose from her seat at the kitchen table, hastily straightened her ponytail and her skirt, and hurried to the door.

"I'm coming--oh, hello!" The sight of her friend pulled a smile to her tired face, her eyes sparking with gladness. "Come on in, I'm sorry it's a little messy, yesterday was..."

"Hello and pre-emptive good afternoon!" He didn't quite catch the visual cue, far too tied up in worrying to do so. He did accept her invitation and step inside, however.

"Please, Kagerou, don't worry about it! You should see what's left of my place!" He then said with a shake of his head and a laugh. He was quite used to sleeping outside at this point, and just in time for the weather to start warming up for spring! After two instances of his home being blown to bits, he was tired of that little shack, anyway.

"I won't pry, either, but I hope things are looking up for you! ...And I brought you some... uh," He brought a bouquet of spring flowers from behind his back, looking them over for a moment while looking absolutely perplexed ( ... )

"Oh!" Kagerou blinked, then extended her hands to accept the bouquet. "Oh, that is awfully kind of you. Let me find some water for them, I'm still not sure if we have a vase, but I can borrow the pitcher for a good cause, I'm sure..."

With that, she bustled towards the kitchen, still speaking over her shoulder. "Lunch sounds really wonderful, actually. I had a bit of a scare yesterday. You know how some people have had trouble with, um, people who are very much like them, but kind of nasty? One of my friends ran into his, and... it got sort of awful.

"I'm sorry, I'm prattling your ear off. Lunch, yes, right now, yes. That sounds good."

Night winced. He knew he forgot something... vase. Important. Perhaps his job training wasn't top notch, or he was in such a hurry lately that he'd forgotten entirely. He looked up again at the mention of doubles ( ... )

Once the flowers were safely nestled in the pitcher, Kagerou reached for her coat, buttoning it up as she nodded at Night's suggestion. "I think I have, but I could always use a refresher course. Spicy and sweet sounds excellent, my good partner. Let us go then!"

She took care that the door shut properly behind them, and breathed in a great gulp of the crisp midday air. "My friend will be fine. He was hurt pretty badly, so I went to see him in the morning, but he's a tough sort. That's a good quality in the Sphere in general, I think."

Thoughts of Toushi still pricked her with small needles of worry, but the worst was behind them, and she had a lovely lunch in good company right ahead. "So, what have you been up to lately? I haven't seen you for a while."

He nodded in agreement. That was the funny thing about Edensphere: Everyone he knew and has seen in passing persevered through even the oddest of spots. It was almost fairly selective.

That thought was immediately gone with her question, and he brightened up a little more than usual. "Where do I start!? I nabbed the culprit behind the farmer's market till theft, the crops are doing well despite all the snow and frost, and this second job I've picked up is super fun! Feathers is getting really big- an expert told me I should get him fitted for a saddle around May or June and I'm super excited for that- and I'm getting used to sleeping under the stars. It'll be really nice to see all the buds and flowers growing again when Spring hits..."

He sucked in a deep breath, having expended his entire lung capacity prattling on. Clearing his throat, he ruffled his hair a bit with a hand.

"...But it has been a while! I really missed talking to you." At the elevator, he pressed the call button and tucked his hands into his pockets.

"You're sleeping outside? There's still frost on the ground!" Kagerou stifled the urge to cluck her tongue or do something else excessively big-sisterly. She really needed to check on him a little more often, no matter how crazy things got.

"Oh, so you did the detective work this time! I might have to step up on that if I mean to keep my title. Feathers is--in fine feather, then, too? We should go to see him some day. And I'd like to come say hello to the chickens, too."

Kagerou ducked into the elevator ahead of him and snappily pressed the button to take them down to the City Without Walls.

"When your house blows up twice in one month, you start thinking that perhaps home ownership might not be for you! I've taken all the precautions to an outdoorsy life, no worries!" And he did. He had a suitable nest of down comforters and blankets nestled somewhere in the tree's branches, but come spring he ought to worry about birds picking it apart for their own nest-building material ( ... )

"Slowly but surely, you'll win his friendship, and without the eye-poking." Kagerou leaned against the wall of the elevator. "Should I find you a pair of protective glasses for the meantime, though? I definitely don't want to see you at Medical missing an eye! Or anything else for that matter!"

She sighed. "Thank you for coming, though. I think I'm going a little, well, off my head here. But I will be fine! I just need to sort out the bar, and things will fall back on their tracks." This was not the time for melancholia. She shook her head, and then the doors of the elevator went swooshing open and they stepped out onto Access Point.

"All right, you lead the way. I'll be right behind you, Sir Night!"

"I think safety goggles ought to do the trick, actually," Night replied with a rub of his chin. He felt a pang of guilt at her mention of missing eyes, thinking immediately of another friend's eyepatch. He sighed quietly, but pushed the thought elsewhere. No use being mopey and blaming one's self for something out of one's own control! ...Fortunately, Night's thought process wasn't that complex. He was actually distracted ( ... )

She smiled and nodded at Night's boisterous offer of assistance, but felt a little unsure whether she would take it. If he had managed to destroy his housing twice in the month, it didn't bode very well for a place full of delicate glassware.

Kagerou leaned in over the menu, attempted to read it upside down, and then finally looked up the right dessert in her own copy.

"I am not sure, my good partner." She looked up at Night, then lowered her voice to a whisper. "Surely there's only one course of action we can take, in our sincere interest of acquiring further learning! First, we'll take a fortifying lunch, and then, on our way out, we'll steal into the kitchen and spy out this secret."

Well, it did sound silly, but it also sounded like the kind of thing she had not done in ages and was secretly missing quite a bit.

"Right," Night replied with a nod. "We'll need the energy to do a little espionage. I'm thinking something really spicy, myself, loaded with basil. I called them Fire Leaves until I was informed of the name."

Oh yes. He'd have something new... perhaps a red curry with basil. He'd tried green before, but wasn't much of a fan. Alas, his favorite color didn't lead him to victory that day. The color green had him thinking of frogs, and his gaze went out to the window.

"I'm sorry... again, for the whole frog incident." Short and to the point. It appeared he still felt bad about the whole thing, especially now that he was a little more educated on human customs.

"Something with noodles, I think." Kagerou pored over the menu. "Oh, basil? I haven't tried that much. I'll have to add it to my array of interesting spices. Does the Farm have a herb garden?"

She paused in her oncoming barrage of cheerful questions when he apologised. Oh, that, last year. She did still remember, of course, but he sounded very contrite over it.

"Um, oh, no!" She waved her hand as if to try and dismiss the matter. "You know, you were in a pinch, so of course I was going to help any way I could! It isn't a big deal. Though--um, why would you bring it up? Not that I mind, but I actually had to think for a minute to..."

That sounded a little insensitive, too, as if she'd simply brushed it aside. Laying her hands on the edge of the table, she simply smiled at him, as if to leave him room to continue.
