That's so funny about the accent. I was wondering myself if you had picked it up after all those years in Texas. My older brother has been in Australia for 21 years and he's picked up quite a bit of that accent.
I've resisted the accent, but some of the local idioms have crept into my dialogue over the years. I think we were pretty well midwesternized before we got here.
My British neighbor has one of those 50/50 accents... sometimes you notice it and sometimes you don't. When she calls her dog "Tuppence" it's a giveway.
That Skype chat software is cool. There's a bit of a delay (considering the signal is probably bouncing off 3,467,953 satellites before it gets into your ear) but it's neat to talk to someone an ocean away without spending $6K per minute.

I was chatting with nettemo at the weekend about that chat software, i really need to find my microphone :)
you might just be greeted with a "whatcha cock, hows it going mate" or even a "ya alright luv"
My aunt has lived in the US for about 30+ years, she has a weird US/British accent, it's quite amusing :)
