Jensen’s pacing around in his room, hands messing up his carefully styled hair, while he stares at every single shirt he owns laid out on the beds, the floor, and the desks. Misha’s standing with his back pressed against the wall, looking frightened.

“Uh, Jensen?” he says slowly. “You have way too many shirts. Even for a gay guy.”

“Shut the fuck up,” Jensen snaps, then stops and points at a random shirt. It’s a blue-stripped button down and he shakes his head. “No, not that one.”

Misha steps carefully over a few shirts and grabs a black sweater. It only has half sleeves, so it won't be too warm, and it's clingy and really soft. It's pretty much his favorite sweater, but he never gets a chance to wear it.

“Yes,” Jensen says. He pulls it on and steps to his mirror. He looks fucking awesome.

“Now…what shoes should I wear?”

Misha groans.

~~~~~~
Jensen's fifteen minutes early, standing in the entrance of the Mexican restaurant Jared suggested for their date. He feels stupid just standing here, waiting, but he misjudged how long it would take him to get here and he was too nervous to stay in his dorm for any longer.
He knows it's stupid to be nervous because they've already kissed and hung out before and it's not like he's worried about making a good first impression on Jared. It's still their first time on a real date and this is where he finds out if they're truly compatible or if it's just been some ridiculously strong attraction drawing them together.
Jared shows up about ten minutes after Jensen and smiles brightly when he sees him, reaching out to grab his hand and tug him close for a kiss. Jensen returns it for a moment before pulling away and flushing slightly.
"Uh, hi," he says to his shoes. Jared grins and nudges him.
"Hey! I didn't make you wait too long, did I?"
Jensen manages to look up and smiles. "Nah, I just came stupidly early."
Jared's mouth twitches for a couple seconds, blushing all the way to the tips of his ears. "Uhh. I hope that's not a constant problem for you?"
"What? No, I...oh. Oh, oh god, no." Jensen's blushing too, embarrassed as hell. "No, that's never a problem for me. Promise."
With a chuckle, Jared wraps his arm around Jensen's shoulder and starts into the restaurant. "Good to know, man."
"Can we forget that ever happened?" Jensen asks.
"Sure, that sounds great." Jared asks for a table for two and the hostess gives them a sweet smile as she leads them to the back, where there's just two-person booths and lots of dim lighting.
"That obvious, huh?" Jared says to her, smirking. She nods and sets the menus down.
"You boys are just too cute."
They sit down, Jensen with his cheeks still faintly pink. Jared nudges their feet together underneath the table and smiles up at her.
"Thanks, I think so too."
She giggles. "Your waitress will be with you in just a moment!"
Jared keeps smiling as his gaze slides back to Jensen. "I hope that happens a lot more."
Jensen smiles back. "Yeah, me too. I am pretty damn adorable."
"Well, you're not wrong." Jared winks at him, then their waitress comes over. It's Sandy, who Jensen totally forgot worked here. She raises an eyebrow at him and sets down two menus.
"Never thought you'd be here on a date, Jenny baby," she says, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "Who's the hottie?"
Jensen really needs to find better friends. "This is Jared," he says. "It's our first date. Can we switch waiters, maybe?" He makes a show of looking around for someone else - someone who isn't going to embarrass the hell out of him.
"Nah, you're stuck with me." She ruffles his perfectly styled hair and Jensen huffs and slaps at her hands.
"Dammit, McCoy. Just get me a raspberry tea, okay?" Jensen's not stupid enough to order anything alcoholic. She'd probably get the bartender to add an extra shot and he's...well, he's a lightweight. He's not taking the chance tonight.
"I want root beer!" Jared says. "So, you're a friend of Jensen's? Has he always been this pretty, or was it a recent development?"
Sandy laughs as she writes down their orders. "Well, he was sorta chubby in elementary school, but yeah, he's always been this pretty."
"I'm hot. Not pretty. I hate you, McCoy."
"Name's Sandy, sweetheart." She smiles at Jared. "Don't listen to a word he says about me. I saved his ass a million times in high school and he's still pissy that I had to."
"Ahh, I see," Jared says. "Good to know."
"Can I get you boys an appetizer to start out with?"
"Just nachos with guac and salsa, I think," Jared says. He glances at Jensen and Jensen nods in agreement.
"The entrees here are huge and they have great desserts, so we need to save room," Jensen says. He looks up at Sandy. "Be good, please?"
"Why Jensen! I'm an absolute angel, I have no idea what you're talking about." With a smirk, Sandy walks off and Jensen scowls after her before flipping his menu open.
"I like your friends," Jared says. He nudges their feet together again, getting Jensen to look up at him.
"I'm sure you do. They're perfectly willing to dish out the most embarrassing details about me."
Jared laughs. "Yeah, that's always nice. But wait till you really get to know Chad. And Genevieve, man, she's worse than Sandy."
Jensen's eyes light up. "Hey, so when do I get to meet your friends?"
"Never!" Jared replies. Jensen pouts and he notices Jared's eyes drifting down to his mouth. They've kissed before, but that was in a secluded area and well, this is Texas. He's not about to do anything here. He bites his lip instead and hides his face behind the menu so he's not tempted.
"After this, I was thinking we'd grab some coffee on the way back to campus and maybe...head back to my dorm? Misha's out for the night, so..." Jensen trails off, eyes fixed on the text so hard it goes blurry.
Jared clears his throat and Jensen peeks over the menu. Jared's blushing.
"I actually...thought we'd take it slow?"
Jensen goes pink immediately. He needs to stop doing that. It's ridiculous.
"I didn't mean for sex!" he says, and it's too loud. People look over and he goes back to hiding behind his menu. "Just. Hanging out. Where I can't embarrass myself in public and neither can my friends."
He hears Jared chuckle and then his menu is tugged out of his hands. "Okay, yeah. That sounds great." Jared's fingertips press to his cheek for a quick second, which makes Jensen break into a smile.
Seems like this date is going to go a lot better than expected.
~~~~~~

"I'm so, so sorry," Jared says. They're in the bathroom and Jensen's trying to scrub sour cream out of his black sweater. It looks like jizz.

He'd maybe spoken too soon about how well this date was going.

"It's fine, really," Jensen says, grabbing another paper towel and wetting it down. His belly feels clammy from the wet material of his sweater clinging to him.

It's really his fault. He'd made a really dumb joke that had got Jared to crack up so hard his knees banged into the table, making his drink spill. Jensen had jumped up, trying not to get soaked in soda, and instead the bowl of sour cream he'd had for his enchilada spilled all over him.

So far he's managed to get the worst of it out of his sweater, but it's still over the front of his jeans. Which makes it look like he'd been fooling around with Jared in the bathroom or something. Fuck.

Apparently Jared's feeling very guilty because he starts wetting down towels and going for Jensen's groin, which makes Jensen back up quickly.

"Whoa! Hey, Jared, maybe I should clean it off myself?" he says, just as Jared starts scrubbing at his upper thigh, crouching in front of Jensen.

Jared's eyes go big and he backs up too. "Um, shit. Yeah, I. Fuck, I'm so sorry, Jensen. I'm an idiot."

"No, you're not. It's just...we both messed up. It'll be fine. Let's get the rest to go and head back to my dorm like we planned, okay?"

That makes Jared look at him with surprise. "You still wanna hang out with me after..."

"Duh," Jensen says. He takes the chance to move in and lean up to kiss Jared softly, reassuring. "Just 'cause you spilled sour cream all over me doesn't mean the date has to be over. Shit happens, Jared."

"Okay," Jared says, exhaling slowly. He gives Jensen another brief kiss, then hands over his wet towels. Jensen rubs the worst of the sour cream off him and then walks back out.

Sandy has already boxed up their foods and dropped off the check.

"I'll pay," Jared insists. "It's the least I can do."

Jensen doesn't want to spend the time arguing, so he just tips Sandy very well and follows Jared out.

Maybe the rest of the night will go better. Jensen can only hope.
