hmm .... interesting .....monedaMarch 4 2002, 22:38:26 UTC
"Y'all have any guesses?"
well, i've often been told that white {or whiter?} america has always had a negative stereotype {especially} about african american women. like, it's always been an unspoken truth that minorities were dirtier in all aspects, especially african americans, and especially when it came to hygiene and sex. i dunno how that effects women of today, but i can't understand how/why women {of ANY color} would continue to practice something that puts their health in jeopardy .... it's like smokers who continue to puff even while their close friends die of lung cancer ..... or when women wear shoes they know hurt their feet all in the name of 'style' ..... F style! try COMFORT, LoL ......

First off, I knew you'd get something out of this. :o)
but i can't understand how/why women {of ANY color} would continue to practice something that puts their health in jeopardy ....
Most women don't know. Most women think it's really helping them by preventing odor and infections. Not knowing it does the opposite. That's the main reason why I put that info here. So that hopefully someone would read this and stop using them.
I know this is really off topic but explain...
white {or whiter?}
What's whiter? Sounds like you got something interesting to say about race.
well, when i said whiter what i meant was that many caucasion ppl don't really have many of the stereotypes passed down througout america's sordid past. 'whiter' america pertains to those who still hold those stereotypes, who still pass on bigotry, those ppl in Hollywood who keep minorities out, those smug white boys at country clubs across the country whose pants are so tight you can see what they're thinking {HA! get it?! HA!}, ya get my point, correct? i kne you would ;)
this is very true. many women don't know the dangers of douching. i was lucky enough to have a really good gynecologist when i was about 16 who told me to cut it out. she gave me some reading material that i passed along to my friends. i don't know how many took heed, since most like to believe the hype that douching equals cleanliness.
it may be that lower income women have less access to medical help/adivce and perhaps think that douching will avoid a trip to the doctor. we have been misled about a whole lot regarding our bodies, so it's just a matter of getting information out to people who wouldn't have gotten it otherwise.

That's probably the case. And it's really unfortunate. I remember a woman in my women studies class a while ago trying to tell us something about pads. I think she said she found out they put bleach in them or something to that nature. It's so sad that the things that we use thinking we're helping ourselves are the very things hurting us.
It forces bacteria up into the uterus which increases the risk of vaginal and uterine infections. And women who douche more than 3 times a month are four times more likely to get pelvic inflammatory disease. They also have the same higher risk for an ectopic pregnancy.
That's interesting. I've heard of what you said about them making you more dry and washing away your natural lubricants, etc., but I never knew about the rest of this.... My mother had always told me not to do it often, so I never overly did it like that. She never got into specifics about it, though.. she would just say it wasn't good to do all the time, period.... but now I know why. I didn't know the effects were this serious. I'll definitely pass this info on.
A rep from the Nat'l Black Women's Health Project guessed that it was because of the negative sexual stereotypes of black women. Hmmmm... I dunno.
Feel me in.... What are some of those negative sexual stereotypes of black women?
You know, the whole stereotype of a welfare mother with a million babies and a billion possiblie fathers. That we sleep around and have sex carelessly so we don't know who are the fathers our children. I also believe there may still be some residual effects from slavery when black women were basically used as the slavemaster's sex toy, but we'll really be here all day on that...
