Two breakdown.

Sep 30, 2008 19:55

Having been introduced to the series when I was but a tiny tot watching them in black and white on PBS, I guess I've always known about Doctor Who. Wasn't much of a fan until the new series came out, where all the hints about the history of the Doctor made me determined to see all the other episodes.
And I found one of my favourite Doctors, Two. NOT QUITE DONE YET. )

trousers, reference, tutorial, sonic screwdriver, companion: zoe heriot, companion: jamie mccrimmon, coat, pocket props, companion: victoria, doctor: two, shirt/blouse, props, retail, tardis key, shoes/boots, watch/pocketwatch, accessories, breakdown, jacket, frock coat, belts/braces/suspenders, hat, tie, pic spam, alternative find, fabrics, hair styling

Happy to be the first to comment what a fantastic breakdown this is! So glad you finally got around to it with Van's help to fill in the breakdown gap. Very thorough and informative- a great help to me since I know one of these days I'd like to put together a Two for the collection ( ... )

:) I'm glad you approve.

One day I'm TOTALLY going to LA. Possibly just for these shops, they sound amazing.

I think the difference between the availability of red suspenders might have something to do with countries... Doesn't Uncle Sam have red suspenders or something?

I shall edit the post to add in these links tomorrow.

PS And here's another pattern for the Frock Coat that (if modified to be a bit shorter) looks to be a good possibility for the Two Morning/Cutaway frock:

This is such a brilliant breakdown of the Second Doctor's costume. So Am I right in saying that I would have to get the shirt customised or tailer made?

Thank you! If you can't tear out the collar and put one in yourself, then yeah. I have been watching Life on Mars recently though, and I notice that their collars are much larger than is current today. Perhaps if you could find one of those shirts?

Honestly though, changing the collar wasn't too difficult. A seam ripper to take the old one out, trace that sucker out onto some newspaper, draw the collar shape I wanted (plus the seam allowance), pin it into the shirt to test the fit, then cut out two pieces of the white fabric, and one of interfacing. Layer it all together interfacing-fabric-fabric, sew the 5/8ths seam allowance all the way around, flip it right side out, iron it, and then sew it into your shirt.

Or just get a crafty friend/tailor to swap out the collar for you. XD Whichever's easiest.

I just found out that technically the collar on Troughton's shirt is technically called a 'spread collar' shirt. These are usually sold more in European shops - it's more of a French-English thing. You can buy them here in the USA through specialty stores but they tend to be expensive. Also modern spread collars are still a bit on the short side for a Two costume ( ... )

Some info on cosplay options for Troughton's Sonic Screwdriver (Penlight) for those looking for one- especially in the US ( ... )
