Solstice and shopping

I am at work, one of the few. The drive this morning was amazingly light; I had the cruise control on the whole way in, which I am never able to do.

Saturday rfunk and I went out shopping for his family, which was actually pretty fun, especially since I didn’t have to do the driving. :-P As we started on our way the car radio (set to a Celtic show) ( Read more... )

I could have taken vacation today, but I guess I'm saving it for the summer sometime :)

That's a picture of Stonehenge. I didn't take the photo; I got it from some icon community, probably seasonal_icons.

solstice at newgrange books up months to years in advance - when i was there in 1996 they said that the solstice in 1999 was already fully booked!

Now apparently they hold an annual lottery to be able to see it inside. Some 28,000 people apply, and 100 are chosen to be able to go into the inner chamber over the few days that the sunrise is visible inside.

going there with an archaeologist who was an expert on that time period was really interesting. after we got the "official" tour he softly said, "now come over here so i can tell you the real story" and then told us a bunch of stuff that completely contradicted what the woman who'd given the tour had said. a few tourists were lucky enough to overhear and wandered along to hear the other version.
