Last night Rob and I went to see British singer-songwriter Richard Thompson in concert at Columbus's oldest surviving theater. It's a fabulous space, and we had good center seats. Richard played solo, on a single Lowden acoustic guitar, for over an hour and a half. It was phenomenal. His virtuoso guitar playing takes me breath away. He has a

I had an uncharacteristically busy and social weekend. Saturday evening was a birthday party for a dancer friend of mine. We ate at a sushi restaurant with the most inefficient service ever. They simply weren't set up for dealing with a party of 20 people. Their strategy seemed to be to serve the small parties of twos and fours first, while waiting

I actually ended up going to BOTH the Concrete Blonde concert AND the YSO Street Fair! Go me! We got to the Newport during the opening act, so there weren't many seating options by then. But I did manage to find a step that worked both as a place to see above the crowd and a place to sit when my back got tired. Concrete Blonde started off their

I switched off my radio alarm in my sleep and slept for an extra 40 minutes this morning. I woke to a dream that I was in some sort of class and we were all singing (and chair dancing) along to "One Night in Bangkok." The Virgin Suicides: haunting movie with an awesome soundtrack. And when we first see Trip Fontaine (Josh Harnett) with Heart’s “Barracuda” playing over top? I just have to give a little sigh. So. Yummy.
Aside: the movie also includes my favorite Heart song ever, “Crazy On You”. Dreamboat Annie is a good album.
The audience for the Peter Murphy Retrospective concert was mostly in their 30's and 40's (a couple even brought their kids), though there were a few who looked like they were in their 20's. I ran into a couple of friends before the show started, and they offered us places at their table. It was nice to have people to sit/dance with

Tonight, rfunk and I are going to see Peter Murphy in concert. Now, whenever I tell people this I get this blank stare, and "Who's Peter Murphy?" So, for those of you who don’t know, Peter Murphy is the Godfather of Goth. He was the lead singer for the seminal goth band Bauhaus. Peter Murphy went solo after Bauhaus broke up in 1983 (the rest of Bauhaus
