Peter Murphy tonight!
Tonight, rfunk and I are going to see Peter Murphy in concert. Now, whenever I tell people this I get this blank stare, and "Who's Peter Murphy?" So, for those of you who don’t know, Peter Murphy is the Godfather of Goth. He was the lead singer for the seminal goth band Bauhaus. Peter Murphy went solo after Bauhaus broke up in 1983 (the rest of Bauhaus became Love and Rockets).
The Peter Murphy song "Cuts You Up" was a major alternative hit in 1990. I LOVE this song. This was back in my clubbing days. Once a week a friend and I would go to goth night at 1470 West in Dayton (I was in graduate school at the time). My favorite part of the night was when they played "Cuts You Up".* The way that song makes me dance eventually led me to bellydancing…but "Cuts You Up" was my first.

*(Reminiscing) To put it in context, other songs I loved from that year were "Peek-A-Boo" (Siouxsie & The Banshees), "Personal Jesus" (Depeche Mode), "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" (They Might Be Giants), and "Pictures of You" (The Cure). 1990 was a good year for music.
