Think of a happy little thought...

Nov 29, 2011 14:28

Who: Stannis Baratheon, his Defence Against Dark Creatures class, any anyone else who feels like dropping by.
Where: The usual classroom. Where it is, I do not know
When: Tuesday, November 29th
What: Expecto Patronum!
Rating: I'm guessing no higher than PG/PG-13.

Any merry little thought )

[For her part, Akako looked perfectly calm. Composed and together, like she didn't even notice the Dementor's affect on the castle at all.]

[The chocolate frog wrapper poking out of her pocket is the only hint that it was getting to her.]

[But if she could keep her composure during those times those foul beast's presence reminded her of, she could keep her composure now. Still, any sort of means to banish these feelings, the better in her opinion. Especially if they might get in. She certainly didn't want to encounter them and be defenseless. Not against creatures like those.]

[So she was already pulling out her wand to try her hand at the charm.]

[Hey Akako you're magician love interest friend is sitting beside you because screw house rivalries. This is also one of those rare days where he's actually paying full attention.]

[He's watching Akako closely though, as he's curious how a real witch from a different world will handle a spell like this.]

[Screw them, indeed. If Kaito didn't sit beside her, she'd go sit beside him. Might as well use their time together to her full advantage.]

[Besides, it was a chance to actually show off in front of him. This was where she naturally excels and cares about excelling and surely something will impress him at some point. To maybe make a look of wonder actually appear on his face, how many people could say they could do that? And it was totally a legitimate way to work on making him hers so he could be her slave. Totally just that reason.]

[She focused on that type of feeling and made the motions.] Expecto Patronum!

[...the words had been said exactly, the wand movements mimicking their teacher's perfectly. On a purely technical aspect, the casting had been absolutely perfect.]

[But the joy was nowhere strong enough and whatever little wisp of something the spell had made could so easily be missed with just blinking at the right moment.]

[Aww... poor Akako. Kaito frowns thoughtfully as he tried to think of any kind of pointers he could give her... but... come to think of it, he doesn't really know that much about Akako.]

Guess you need a happier thought.

[He will give her an encouraging push in that direction though, have a randomly appearing rose]

[He knew the chills he has been experiencing isn't normal winter chill but to think that there's some creatures that could destroy someone's soul is the cause of it has him gritting his teeth in silent worry. Feeding on a person's darkest memory... That is something he doesn't want to hear, especially after what happened in the DADA class. So with full intention of learning what defensive spells he can to fight off a Dementor, he listens carefully to each and every word out of Professor Baratheon.

Happy memory that brings joy...? Do I have something like that..? He can't be sure if he remembers anything particularly joyful. Being one who always does what he's expected to do to the best, such feeling is foreign to him. He enjoys being able to accomplish something but joy...? He shuffles through his memories and try to settle on one that he thinks resemble joy before trying his hand at the charm.]

[ Stannis observes the student carefully, as he attempts to cast the spell. ]

Be sure it is an important memory, not only a joyful one. You have you place all your concentration into it.

[He nods in acknowledgement to the professor's advice and once again try picking one of his important memory. He has many but joyful wasn't among them so he settles for the memory of reuniting with his MIA-ed comrades. He was happy to find them alive and well, or as well as Allelujah could be after 4 years of captivity, but he was happy. Seeing Setsuna and Allelujah again made him feel as if his family was closer to being together once again and that they could set out to finish their missions and do them right. If only he is home too...

With that memory firmly in mind, he attempts the spell for the first time.] Expecto patronum!

[Perhaps his spell sensed his regret and reacted accordingly. There is no sign of a corporeal Patronus, instead silvery mist hovers at the tip of his wand...]

The memory was not powerful enough.

[ that much was obvious. ]

Again.

[ He can see the effect the Dementors are having on the boy, it was really impossible not to. However, he does not particularly care. Close observers would see that he himself does not quite look well, yet somehow, he managed to cast a Patronus for his class.

And if this boy is unable to even stay focused while the dementors are at bay...

There would be no hope for him if they should come. ]

Do you find the subject matter so dull that you feel the need to sleep, ser? I will have you attempt the spell.

[ and Lelouch gets a glare right back, though he says nothing else. Truth be told, he wasn't quite expecting much in the way of a Patronus, so the... "large blob on a stick" was actually rather surprising.

However, it does not stop him from grinding his teeth. ]

Adequate. However, I am certain that you can do better, can you not?

[ It was not a question, but rather an order to try it once again. ]

[Russia had looked into dementors as soon as he had found they were the cause of the unnatural chill around the castle. What he had found had not left him particularly impressed with the school's safety, and he had jumped at the chance to learn the only charm capable of driving off the beasts. Unfortunately for him, being a nation with a not always pleasant past had left him with more than enough unpleasant memories for the dementors to feed off of.

He taps his wand against his palm as he tries to find a happy memory to use.]

[Austria is not faring much better, too wrapped up in concern and baseless wonders to really focus on memories that bring him joy.

Certainly he has them, he just can't seem to find them in the hour that he needs them most, and finds himself glancing over at Russia with a small frown, wondering if perhaps it's a nation problem rather than his own.]

Perfectly fine~! za_rodina December 1 2011, 07:31:12 UTC
[There's a little frustrated glint in his eyes as he sifts through memories. Often times the happier ones are tinted with guilt or sadness of later events. He shakes his head to rid himself of those and digs deeper, to when he was not truly a nation but shared the burden with his sisters.

It takes a while to sift through centuries of memories and he rubs at his temples.]

[Kallen has been concentrating her efforts on successfully perfecting the Patronus charm as soon as she found out what the Dementors are truly capable of. This brought to mind the conversation she had with Ed a week or so ago about those creatures and their ability to strip a person's will away. The concept of turning into an empty shell is very unsettling to Kallen - no, frightening. She's used to giving it her all with every situation thrown at her and warping the outcome to her liking; the last thing she wants is to have that aspect of her taken away ( ... )

[ This... was quite possibly one of the weakest showings he'd seen yet. The girl had managed to produce absolutely... nothing. And nothing was not going to aid her when the Dementors were upon her. ]

Did you allow your mind to wander, girl?

[ He offers no words of encouragment, but he keeps his gaze focused on her. At the very least, she would have to produce even a faint shield. ]

[This is humiliating. It's as if her pride suddenly obtained multiple beatings. No matter what, she has to make the spell work in her favor. There is no if.]

I was distracted.

[All this said in a matter of fact way (and with a disappointed look in her face) to Professor Baratheon. Sighing, she waves her wand at the random spot some more.]

Forgive me, sir. I won't let my mind wander anymore, not when I have to face my enemies head-on.

Ensure that it does not happen again.

[ As she casts the spell once more, he observes her in silence. ]
