Any merry little thought )
He taps his wand against his palm as he tries to find a happy memory to use.]

Certainly he has them, he just can't seem to find them in the hour that he needs them most, and finds himself glancing over at Russia with a small frown, wondering if perhaps it's a nation problem rather than his own.]

It takes a while to sift through centuries of memories and he rubs at his temples.]

Da, I am fine. There is just too many memories to sift through.

[He rubs at his temples and leans back in his chair, falling silent for a few minutes more. With a little huff he focuses on a memory, the heavy hand of Petr on his shoulder, pointing out the newely formed streets of 'Sankt Pieter Burkh' as it was called in the beginning. Of the new ties to the rest of Europe, the joy he felt at becoming a part of their world as well. He draws himself up and casts with a sharp:]
Expecto Patronum!
[It's not entirely enough, silvery strands burst from his wand, forming a mist but not coalescing into a form.]

[Well, no use in not trying it as well-- Austria has happy moments, after all. Wedding days and bright eyes, Italy sitting against the wall, neat and quiet, while his fingers fly across the keys. Playing a new piece and feeling chills down his spine. Simple pleasures, but they fill him with a warm sort of glow, so he does as Russia did, with more of a flourish like he's conducting the magic through his want.
He says the incantation and a silvery mist spills out, shimmering and hanging, but disappearing soon after, and Austria frowns]

[He settles back to watch Austria try the spell, frowning in disappointment when he does no better that Russia himself did. He's utterly dissapointed in his inability to get the spell perfectly, never mind the fact he's been doing magic for less than a month.]
Surely there's something I'm missing?

And he's good at Charms] Perhaps, also, there is a measure of experience we lack. [Though how hard-pressed he is to admit it]

No, you do not. Should the grounds be breeched, you may have need to defend yourselves against the creatures, regardless of your memories.
[ there is no warmth or encouragment in his voice. ]
Think of nothing else but that thought.

[He huffs, and taps his wand against his palm once more. For a moment he seems to just center himself and focus only on the happiness those memories inspire in him before he casts one more time and while it's certainly not perfect, barely coalescing into a sort of shape it's much better than the previous try.
There's no guarantee he'll be able to do the same when faced with a dementor.]

He wants to protect her.
It's that, that with a sharp flourish of his wand and the call of the spell, that Austria produces an animal form-- only for a moment, brief and fleeting like a flash of moonlight on water, but it is there: a cat, with long fur and elegant whiskers, fleet-footed and soft before is shimmers into air] ....thank you.

Good job!
[And then he's frowning as he tries to come up with some other memories for the spell. The one's before weren't enough, he can feel it somehow but he was so close last time.]
