Think of a happy little thought...

Nov 29, 2011 14:28

Who: Stannis Baratheon, his Defence Against Dark Creatures class, any anyone else who feels like dropping by.
Where: The usual classroom. Where it is, I do not know
When: Tuesday, November 29th
What: Expecto Patronum!
Rating: I'm guessing no higher than PG/PG-13.

Any merry little thought )

[For her part, Akako looked perfectly calm. Composed and together, like she didn't even notice the Dementor's affect on the castle at all.]

[The chocolate frog wrapper poking out of her pocket is the only hint that it was getting to her.]

[But if she could keep her composure during those times those foul beast's presence reminded her of, she could keep her composure now. Still, any sort of means to banish these feelings, the better in her opinion. Especially if they might get in. She certainly didn't want to encounter them and be defenseless. Not against creatures like those.]

[So she was already pulling out her wand to try her hand at the charm.]

[Hey Akako you're magician love interest friend is sitting beside you because screw house rivalries. This is also one of those rare days where he's actually paying full attention.]

[He's watching Akako closely though, as he's curious how a real witch from a different world will handle a spell like this.]

[Screw them, indeed. If Kaito didn't sit beside her, she'd go sit beside him. Might as well use their time together to her full advantage.]

[Besides, it was a chance to actually show off in front of him. This was where she naturally excels and cares about excelling and surely something will impress him at some point. To maybe make a look of wonder actually appear on his face, how many people could say they could do that? And it was totally a legitimate way to work on making him hers so he could be her slave. Totally just that reason.]

[She focused on that type of feeling and made the motions.] Expecto Patronum!

[...the words had been said exactly, the wand movements mimicking their teacher's perfectly. On a purely technical aspect, the casting had been absolutely perfect.]

[But the joy was nowhere strong enough and whatever little wisp of something the spell had made could so easily be missed with just blinking at the right moment.]

[Aww... poor Akako. Kaito frowns thoughtfully as he tried to think of any kind of pointers he could give her... but... come to think of it, he doesn't really know that much about Akako.]

Guess you need a happier thought.

[He will give her an encouraging push in that direction though, have a randomly appearing rose]

[Akako was working to hide her shock and, frankly, embarassment at her failure to perform the charm. She had been doing so well with the other spells that the fact the spell didn't work came as a surprise. For her part, she hid her anger, but it was there, boiling under the surface. How dare her magic disobey-!]

[Before the anger could bring down her mood even more, however, the rose appeared with the encouragement.] Ah...

[This time, the surprise is obvious as she takes the rose.]

...yes, I suppose it really does need a more special thought. It wouldnt be an advanced apell otherwise.

[He offers her a smile before leaning back in his chair to watch again. She's the one with real magic back home so shouldn't she be a natural at this?]

[She thought she should be. So what if it was a different spell than she was used to? It was magic and she would do it!]

[Though it's not only Kaito watching this time around.]

[ Meanwhile, their professor had been observing the scene, frowning more and more by the moment. This was hardly the time or the place for such frivolity.

He clears his throat. ]

You may proceed once again, my lady.

Yes, Professor. [Akako looked at the rose for a moment more before putting it in her hair, so it's out of the way. She could do this. Just...showing off wasn't the way. Besides, it was Kaito. There was no reason to feel that happy to maybe impress him. She didn't have to prove anything to anyone, let alone him.]

[Yes, that's it. Being in the place she belongs, in the center of attention. Like when she first arrived in Ekoda and immediately had all the boys eating out of the palm of her hand. Save for Kaito. But that didn't matter. All the attention, all the compliments, the love letters, the gifts. She would focus on that.]

[She raised her wand to cast, thinking of all the attention and gifts, the feelings those gave her. And yet, her mind strayed to that flower in her hair as she thought to cast, the feeling of the one person she could never control encouraging her.]

Expecto Patronum! [There was some advantage to frivolity as the difference was obvious. The white vapor came, strong and distinct in it's color. It wasn't a corporeal ( ... )

Perhaps. But it is a start, compared to some of the other students. Five points to Slytherin.

[ He does not smile, nor offer much more encouragment. ]

I will remind you to place your focus solely on that memory when you cast the spell. The moment you lose the concentration, is the moment the spell fails.

You do not need me to tell you what happens when such a spell fails against a true opponent.

Thank you, Professor. [The response was polite, but automatic.]

Understood, Professor. [In truth, she wasn't surprised about the concentration. It had been deliberate. She saw how the spell was going and knew it wasn't going to get stronger, so she didn't force it. She wouldn't accept a spell that was half done. Especially not to these creatures that were starting to get even through her walls.]

[She didn't need encouragement or a smile. When Akako decided to do something, she followed through on it with a single minded obsession. She would get the spell, one way or another. She just had to keep trying.]
