Monster meme and macs

Aug 14, 2008 21:11

I've invented a meme -- go through your Supernatural fics. Count up the incidences you've used each type of supernatural being/monster/critter and list them in your LJ. Which one comes up most often, and why?

Monster incidence count, fics through August 13, 2008 )

As for the Word compatibility. I have never had any problems. I use track changes at my job pretty much daily in my editing work and I go from Mac Word and my office PC MS Word, and so far it's worked well. I even am able to convert between Mac's persoal word processing program "Pages" and MS Word pretty well.

Awesome!

Apparently, one of my regular beta readers has been on a mac all this time anyway while I am still on pc...so it may be a non-issue.

Less clunky would be really fabulous. I've heard the thing about viruses. That's a good reason too.

With all these questions, and really, my most major concern is "oh my god what if my beta readers can't edit my fic properly due to incompatibility issues." You see where my priorities lie. *g* Well, okay, and it'd be nice if everything wasn't so SLUGGISH all the time...

As a somewhat recent convert, YES. Mac is better.

Ah, another convert.

I played with the Macbook in the store. Smooth running, and it also seems easier to find all the programs.

*nibbles fingernails* I hate purchasing technology! Especially computers.

Macs rule. I have a MacBook and love it. We've always been a Mac family. (And I used Macs back in school, too.)

I asked my hubby your question about track changes stuff looking screwy on a Mac if a PC person beta read your document, and he said it would make more of a difference what version of Word everyone is using rather than whether they have a Mac vs. a PC.

Can I send you a file for you to mark up for a trial? (I'll send you a drabble already published and you can turn on track changes and babble however you want back at me)

Your hubby's probably right that's it's Word version not mac vs. pc but it'd ease my mind to do a test run.

(You were using a mac when you last beta'd me, though, weren't you? So maybe we don't even need a test -- we already know word mc talking to pc mac works?)

Yes, I was using a Mac when I last beta'd for you. :) But if you want to send me a test doc, feel free. :)

Let's do one for the heck of it, but I think we already know it'll be okay!

as someone who uses a Mac almost everyday, I have to say that I prefer the PC. I just don't think there's anything about Macs that make them worth the cost.

They are expensive, and if you aren't seeing a large difference overall, then it's not worth it.

I haven't heard anything good about windows Vista, though. A new pc would be less expensive but...Vista...I dunno...

PC's are much less expensive, definitely.

My husband also has yet to hear anything good about Windows Vista. He has a friend who's a computer guru -- guru as in he's built his own operating system from scratch -- who says that it's like Microsoft changed things just to change things, and Vista uses a ton of memory.

I actually am a weirdo who quite likes Vista! Now I am used to where everything is it's cool. The most annoying thing is that the standby button looks like shut down so I keep just putting my computer so sleep ;) I wasn't aware that it might be using up lots of memory though - boo to that! :)

(Anyone who uses a Mac says they're better don't they? Aw *pets my poor PC*)

Also - fun meme dotfic! I don't think I've used that many monsters!
