Gen Con Travel Journal Things
10.5 hours until I fly out to Gen Con!
Last year I ended up with Trip Journal & Social Network stuff scattered across LJ, HoardeNet, and to a lesser extent FB & G+, so I'm going to try keeping the trip journal part as centralised as possible, on the freshly-pressed CraigBlog!

Booked the flights for GenCon 2013 yesterday; Barring the inevitable flight changes, I'll arrive in Indy at 10:10am on Sunday the 11th,having travelled for almost 30 hours, and leave at 2:45pm on Wednesday the 21st.
some back-of-the-internet scratchings suggest that the trip there will have 28h40m of travel time from wheels up in Auckland to wheels ( Read more... ) -
In Which I Contact A Travel Agent
I've started the flight-booking process for GenCon 2013, in that I've emailed Michele the travel agent and asked her to do it all.
With luck, I should hit Indianapolis the Sunday before GenCon, and leave the Wednesday after, giving a bit of time for tourist stuff. And jetlag-reduction*.

SqueekUpdate
Squeek came back from the bike repairers with a new everything, at least on initial examination. New tubes, tyres, handlebar grips & cables, plus a bit of a tune-up.
Also, I bought a helmet.
Went for a trial ride yesterday, and did not die, though Holy Crap does my fitness suck.

Two Weeks In At AECOMHAÜS
The new workplace is growing on me, and may well be growing in me, if the construction dust induced cough doesn't let up soon.
The 'social area' on our floor, a.k.a. the kitchen, has acquired a rug with a certain Let's Decorate The Kid's Room vibe; It has oversize daisies & a shades of green pattern which I cannot help but interpret as a classified ( Read more... ) -
Heterodyne Tales!
When I'd finished with paying for stuff on Holiday 2012, I had $250 left over on my Ameristanian Debit Card, suggesting that I'd been fairly accurate with my wild guesses as to expenditure. (Though if I'd managed to buy a Utilikilt I might have had some problems towards the end there)

Leaving, Part One
There's something which didn't make it into the last update.
I tried to check my flight status yesterday morning, and was met with nothing. No such flight.
I called United Airlines, and their automatic system did recognise the number, but wanted to know whether I was getting on at Los Angeles, Denver, or Orlando. Couldn't get through to a human, even ( Read more... ) -
Last Day In Chicago
Did a test run of packing this morning, and have found that I CAN indeed take my stuff back without having to buy a new suitcase, but it's a close-run thing.
My first attempt was a bit over the 23kg limit.
My second attempt, where I took the GenCon free stuff out & put it in the other bag, was worse, at 27kg.

Post-Con Tuesday
I slept in until 8 or so, and it was everything I thought it could be.
In keeping with my plan to NOT rush around trying to see everything & do everything, I had a leisurely breakfast at a bar named Houlihan's (accessed via the network of underground walkways which fan out beneath the hotel, and, indeed, most of Chicago, it seems), made even more ( Read more... ) -

I've not been setting alarms in the mornings, but have been waking up at Sweet Zombie Jesus AM anyway, which I shall blame on The TimeZones. Filthy, filthy timezones.
