"Fuck," comes the not particularly elegant, low curse from the doorway of the room, followed by (for good measure), a string of equally offensive swear words in Spanish. They're both soft enough so that only the observant passerby would hear them, but the next statement is a little louder; she's not quite sure this isn't a dream yet, actually. " ( Read more... )

And Monroe will be walking by. "It is no dream."

"Then what is this place?" She doesn't look particularly concerned or confused, just kind of pissed off.

"It's called the mansion. It is nowhere in particular."

"In other words, you're either a part of my dream, or I'm basically screwed over." She sighs, picking up a piece of paper and looking at it in a disconsolate fashion. "And I was so close to finishing this report."

Vincenzo grins, mostly due to being in a generally good mood. "I really doubt it's a dream, but I can try and be prophetic, if you'd like. Tell me more about this experiment of yours."

She takes a few moments to think, and then visibly relents, because who would ever mind talking about their experiment? "I don't know how much you'd understand of this, but you're the one who asked--" And basically, Morgan goes into a short little talk about how, since viruses are so mutable, there really isn't a way to easily organize them like there is for genomic DNA and bacterial DNA, and how her current project is assisting a private company in developing specific markers for specific features, in order to compose a database. "So, tell me, wise one. Is B257 a good marker for H4N12 strain of influenza?"

He really can't help looking the slightest bit dazed, but in the best way possible. "I've honestly got no clue. Influenza isn't exactly where my interests lie, but, hi, you're officially one of the most awesome people here."

"Hey, don't forget that you promised to attempt to be prophetic." He does get a small smile for that, because her job is the most awesome thing ever, though most people don't understand it. "But thanks. I take it that you like science?"

"Hey," Xathanael says brightly, automatically giving her his customary grin and salute. He's mildly hyperactive thanks to an overdose of Christmas candy, so he's bouncing on the balls of his feet a little. "You totally wish it were a dream."

He get a slight quirk of the brows, then, though she might be secretly amused since he reminds her of her dad when he's talking about his research. "Do I? Is it really that bad here?"

"Ohhh, yes." He's trying to make his voice go deep and ominous, but that's probably not working out so well. "It's a vortex, a pit, a chasm of endless doom. And suffering. And stuff." There's a pause, then he adds, for good measure, "Mwahaha. Resistance is futile."

Okay, he gets a small snicker, at least. (She's a tough audience.) "Kind of sounds like New Jersey." Then her eyes widen slightly, because hey, she's got nothing better to do than to play along. "--wait, this isn't Jersey, is it? Either that, or my house when there's only one slice of cake left? You used the words 'chasm of endless doom', after all."

Liz's immediate reaction is one of sympathy, because she certainly remembers being more than a bit disgruntled the first time she found her way here. "I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news," she says, apologetically, "but I don't believe this is a dream at all and no one knows how to escape it permanently, whatever it may be."

Well, that pretty much cinches what she's been worried about, since she has no reason to believe that Liz is lying. She pauses for a moment. "I don't think there's any kind of response that I can make that doesn't involve confusion, expletives, or -- well, a combination of the two of them."

So she offers a small, sympathetic smile. "I could hardly blame you for -- well, either, honestly, although the confusion is likely quite a bit more socially acceptable, even in this time period."

"'This' time period? Are you from a different one?"

Theia will, upon first noticing the new girl, immediately perk up a little at the lab coat, then glance over at the papers, looking them over as best as possible for her angle before turning a faint but friendly smile to Morgan. "Honestly, if you're here long enough, I wouldn't be surprised. Though I'm sure my professors and my boss would be thrilled if I were able to pull off something like that."

At the mention of her work, Morgan will give her something that could possibly pass for a smile, turning the papers a little to give her a better view of them. "It's a group effort, really. I'm only a lowly research technologist, though I'm glad that they give me some individual responsibility, at least."

Meaning she'll study them in obvious interest -- she does find it a little more interesting than she would people. "Well, that's something, at least. What is it you're working on? Looks like it might be up my alley."
