"Fuck," comes the not particularly elegant, low curse from the doorway of the room, followed by (for good measure), a string of equally offensive swear words in Spanish. They're both soft enough so that only the observant passerby would hear them, but the next statement is a little louder; she's not quite sure this isn't a dream yet, actually. "

"Hey," Xathanael says brightly, automatically giving her his customary grin and salute. He's mildly hyperactive thanks to an overdose of Christmas candy, so he's bouncing on the balls of his feet a little. "You totally wish it were a dream."

He get a slight quirk of the brows, then, though she might be secretly amused since he reminds her of her dad when he's talking about his research. "Do I? Is it really that bad here?"

"Ohhh, yes." He's trying to make his voice go deep and ominous, but that's probably not working out so well. "It's a vortex, a pit, a chasm of endless doom. And suffering. And stuff." There's a pause, then he adds, for good measure, "Mwahaha. Resistance is futile."

Okay, he gets a small snicker, at least. (She's a tough audience.) "Kind of sounds like New Jersey." Then her eyes widen slightly, because hey, she's got nothing better to do than to play along. "--wait, this isn't Jersey, is it? Either that, or my house when there's only one slice of cake left? You used the words 'chasm of endless doom', after all."

Well, he's hyperactive and happy enough for the both of them, at least, so he shakes his head, solemnly. "Nope. Not Jersey and way bigger than just one house. Much worse."

"I guess I really am doomed, then. Tell me the people here are intelligent and science-inclined, at least."
