Roses for a Holiday

Feb 14, 2007 07:41

Fleurette is all for new holidays that mean people get flowers. Nevermind the meaning. She is in the main room of the Mansion with a basket of cut roses of all colors, giving the blooms to whoever will take them. There is nothing wrong with the blooms except maybe a few thorns on the stems.

Tom bows, "I don't believe we've met. Thomas Jones, at your service."

Fleurette curtsies. "Bonjour, Citoyen Jones. I'm Fleurette. Would you like a rose?" She beams and holds the basket out to him.

Tom turns on his charm, it comes naturally when he's talking to a member of the opposite sex. "I would be honored, miss. Perhaps you would pick a colour for me?"

She blushes and looks through the basket, finally selecting a pink rose with slightly yellow tips. "Here. I hope you like it." She giggles.

Alcuin smiles, a bit shy. "Do you have a white one?"

She looks through her basket and holds one out to him. "There, citoyen. I hope you like it."

"Thank you." Alcuin smiled, holding it to his nose. "I'm afraid I have nothing for you in return."

"Oh, that is fine. I do not need anything except your smile, citoyen." She giggles.

Enter Alfred blushing something fierce, dressed out like a little Elizabethan gentleman and holding a bouquet of dried wildflowers behind his back. "U - Um ..."

Fleurette jumps up and down excitedly, nearly dropping the basket, and hugs him. "Alfred! I was afraid you'd gone! How are you?"

Blushing even fiercer -- "I - I brought you something. For St. Valentine's ..."

"You did?" She blushes now, but she's still very, very happy to see him.

Oh! Did you plant these?

"I am afraid not. I helped tend them the last few years. I think Louise made the garden many years ago."

I did not plant the roses in my garden, either. My Aunt Lilias did, before, while it was still hers; but then it died and my friend Dickon and I brought it back to life.

"I like roses. Most flowers. They are so happy, and don't care about the whims of people."

Draco is having a good look at the flowers but eyeing Fleurette suspiciously. He knows that many things in the Mansion are not to be trusted.

She raises her eyebrows, a perfect picture of an innocent young mademoiselle. "Is there something wrong, mon-citoyen?"

"What do those do?"

She looks faintly puzzled. "Smell good? Look pretty. What are roses supposed to do?" Then a light dawns. "Oh, do you mean what do they symbolize? Red is for love. Yellow for friendship. White for purity. Pink for--" She can't quite recall what pink is for.
