Roses for a Holiday

Feb 14, 2007 07:41

Fleurette is all for new holidays that mean people get flowers. Nevermind the meaning. She is in the main room of the Mansion with a basket of cut roses of all colors, giving the blooms to whoever will take them. There is nothing wrong with the blooms except maybe a few thorns on the stems.

Oh! Did you plant these?

"I am afraid not. I helped tend them the last few years. I think Louise made the garden many years ago."

I did not plant the roses in my garden, either. My Aunt Lilias did, before, while it was still hers; but then it died and my friend Dickon and I brought it back to life.

"I like roses. Most flowers. They are so happy, and don't care about the whims of people."

"Yes," says Mary, with a fleeting smile. "Flowers are good company. I've planted some here, out in the gardens. Larkspur and daffodils and lilies-of-the-valley..."

"Oh? Can you show me?" Fleurette hasn't caught on that it may be winter in the Mansion gardens. It's late early summer in Lou Mas.

"I would, but it is winter still. Things have not yet begun to show above the ground."

"Oh dear. Perhaps you can come home with me. I can show you the lilac bushes."

"Where is your home? I would dearly love to see them!"

"Lou Mas, France. I just... go out the back door. You can't miss it."
