Last night, I finally got around beginning to organize the approximately 12,000 photos on my hard drive last night.  The majority of the photos are from 2001 to present, since we've had digital cameras, but I have a good sized selection (about 150) of pre-digital photos that I've scanned, going back to 1965.  I decided to use Picasa as my photo ( Read more... )

It's Graduation Day.  Or maybe Retirement Day.  Whatever it should be called, tonight, I host Austin's yearbook party at his grammar school, and then, after two consecutive years, I am officially retired as a yearbook committee chairman and yearbook editor.

As much work (ie: cat herding) as was involved, I'm pretty proud of the two books I edited.  ( Read more... )

I know, this is late in coming. Been incredibly busy finishing up Austin's yearbook, plus working about 12 hours per day at the office (was it really me who couldn't wait for ebooks to take off?), and getting the kids set up and back on track for high school.

It has been a particularly busy summer.  I've been working 12 hour days on a special project involving ebook amendments to 60 years worth of contracts.  There are times (often around 8:30 at night in my office) when I regret my earlier push to advance electronic reading into the mainstream.  I had not taken into account the incredibly difficult ( Read more... )

We felt the Virginia quake in the Flatiron Building in Manhattan. I was reading at my desk, when my chair started swaying slightly. I thought I was getting dizzy, but then my phone rang, and my son said that the whole house (in Brooklyn) shook. I calmed him, and had him contact my mother who is nearby. I had yesterday off from work for my birthday. After getting the kids off to school, and Amy off to work, I set out on my annual birthday bike ride. This year, I did about 18 miles (down slightly from last year, but I hadn't done my usual preparatory riding this Spring). We got some terrific surprise news today.  My god-daughter, Lauren, is a Senior at Shenendehowa High School.  She entered a design contest with 70 other design students at her school to create a billboard about the dangers of drinking and driving.  Today, it was announced that her design was chosen, and the billboard was unveiled on the main road ( Read more... )
