Patersden

A slightly belated Happy Father's Day, or Patersden, to everyone who celebrates it. I hope you all had a wonderful day, however you spent it. I was fortunate enough to talk to my own father and father-in-law on the day in question (Father's Day is the same in Cohdopia as in the US, though we celebrate Mother's Day in March, on the birthday of ( Read more... )

So a kamirstaar is like, a Cohdopian Wal-Mart, huh? That's cool! Like, I hope your dad and nieces and nephews are doing okay!

Funny, my mom works for a clothing conglomerate called Star Blazers. She's one of the top executives.

No, kamirstaar is a word that I suppose would be translated as "corner shop" in English, as kamirstaar are usually found on corners in towns of small and medium size. They are small and independently owned, and much more like the traditional US "general stores".

Yes, all my family is doing quite well. Thank you for asking! Everyone had a wonderful time on the hiking trip.

Ah, that's interesting. I do hope your mother enjoys her job at Star Blazers.

The Plexippus Group is a bit of an accidental conglomerate. During the separation, they bought out many Babahlese corporations which were struggling, to prevent them from going under. It's a fascinating story! But one I don't understand very well, as my husband is the one with a head for business.

Ah, I gotcha! And that's good! There's like, always some things you can only get at corner stores. Poking around them, you can find some pretty cool little things here and there.

Yes, exactly! We pride ourselves on having surprising items you can't get anywhere else.

I used to help in the store all the time as a child and teenager--I'm quite fond of it.

Being able to run around your father's store when you were a kid must have been fun.

Did you have a favorite department?

You're a natural diplomat, someone who finds a way to relate to mostly everyone - at your job and at home. I admire that a lot.

It was fun, yes. And though, as a child, I was rather shy around my peers, dealing with the customers gave me confidence.

A favorite department? I liked the stationary and office supplies. I've always been fond of such things. I used to play with the desk sets and imagine having an office of my own. Which of course I do, today.

Thank you, Mr. Ken. That's kind of you. You seem to be able to get along with everyone. I'm sure you'd make a good diplomat, too. Did you always want to work in the circus?

It's hard for me to imagine you being shy, Mr. Palaeno.

I think I would have liked the hardware department. When I was a kid, I used to like to play with tools. I liked to see how things worked, I guess.

It's funny, when my brother and I came to the circus, it seemed like something that would happen to kids in a book or a movie. It didn't feel real at first. But it wasn't the circus performance that made it real, it was the circus family. Even though I loved performing, that was always my favorite part.

Oh yes, when I first went to school, I was a quiet child. I had a hard time relating to others at first, as I was a bit different, but working in the store helped me.

Yes, I suppose joining the circus is something that seems to happen in fiction much more than in real life, but fiction is based on truth, so I'm not surprised it does happen in real life, too. I'm so glad you enjoyed it there! It does sound like a fun and exciting way of life.

Thank you for the Patersden wishes. A shame I can't return them.

That's... quite all right, Mr. Alba.

Obviously, I don't have any children, though I wish it were otherwise.

I do hope you were able to speak to your own children on Patersden.

Your father sounds like a kind man. He's fortunate to have such a kind son.

I think Father's Day is for fathers and their children alike, so I'm glad you had a good one.

Thank you very much for the thoughtful words, Mr. Armando. They're much appreciated, as I was feeling somewhat downhearted.

In a manner of speaking I do! Yes, my mother's hair is almost exactly like mine, except she doesn't have sideburns.

You have a point. It isn't any great mystery. I do indeed like store things! I take after my mother and father both in that respect. They met as rival shopkeepers and merged their two shops into one when they married.

Is there anyone you'd say you take after, Trucy?
