I am SO TIRED of George Clooney. Something I never thought I'd say, but there it is. Sad Ryan didn't get another nom but he retains his indie cred. Also sad for Fassbender & JGL but oh well. I'm happy for Christopher Plummer and Gary Oldman (although I didn't like Tinker at all) but not really rooting for anyone else.
Wow, that pic of Elizabeth Olsen as Liz Taylor is astounding! Projects are in the work with either Lindsay Lohan or Megan Fox supposed to play her but that pic convinces me! (Although those kind of biopics are usually awful.)

I think it's because--at least for me--it's because he's reached that Al Pacino level of being more of a persona than an actor. I think he gets alot of love because "Hey, he's the merry prankster! He has a cool pad in Lake Como!" then being a good actor. Which he is, but I think critics reflect more on how much they like him than how he is as an actor. Plus he plays the same role with just slight different permutations. That said: I loved "Ides of March" and he was great in every capacity.

Granted "Drive" wasn't much of a actor role for him but "Ides of March" was. And he was way better IMO in "Ides of March" and "Drive" than "Half Nelson".

Joe, I felt would be a crap shoot but Fassbender?? I am shocked! Shocked and appalled. I haven't seen "Shame" but still...

Oldman Finally! I started getting nervous there;) Clooney & Pitt have at least 3 and Gary didn't even have one. I was hoping that Rickman would get one for HP7 but Oldman's nod made up for it.
Melissa McCarthy I like her but really?
Cumberbatch I thought he looked a bit nerdy in Stuart but he's quite sexy as Sherlock;)
So did he. I really thought he wouldn't get the nomination because he had been pushed aside in recent weeks for Fassbender. I'm just floored that with all of that ink on Fassbender that he didn't get the nomination. The guy from "The Separation" was beyond dark horse. He was invisible horse. He came out of nowhere.

There was an opinion piece by Gavin Polone former agent, who's really insightful, but he talked about how stodgy the voters are and how fantasy films like HP get technical acclaim but not Oscar nods for Best Picture despite how much money it brings in (exceptions being "Avatar" and "Lord of the Ring").
Melissa McCarthy I like her but really? She was funny, but Oscar nod worthy? I don't know. I don't think what she did was any more funny than Kristin Wiig. I just think they like when actresses aren't vain in roles: like Charlize

Commercials for This Means War are starting to air; i started to think maybe she's supposed to be some kind of asset and that's why they're fighting over her. Nope. I guess they really are just fighting for her affections.
Loved those fake FYC ads - at least I assume they were fake! They might actually be more effective than normal FYCs because they're so cheeky and smart.
Do you think the allegations around MF may have cost him the nom? There was an interview with Gia Carano in my local paper, in which she said the following, quite innocently, about MF enjoying their fight scenes: "he didn't pull any punches either. He slammed me into anything and everything that he could. And it was a beautiful thing because I didn't have to tell Fassbender, ‘Hey, you know, don't worry about me.' I was pretty sure that Fassbender enjoyed every second of it.” Awkward...
I'm astonished that "Too Loud and Incredibly Close" or whatever it was called got a BP nom - didn't it get slammed by the critics?

Nah. Only because if Hollywood voted by their morals Charlie Sheen would never had had a job as long as he did. Sean Connery wouldn't still be idolized. I think it's the content, frankly that the voters couldn't get behind.

Hahahaha! Not that abuse is funny, but I'm sure he didn't worry. That's old hat...allegedly. But in terms of the film I wonder if Channing had a hard time with fighting her because there's a scene between the two of them that is absolutely brutal.

Albert Brooks on his Snibbity Snub by the Academy:
"I got ROBBED. I don't mean the Oscars, I mean literally. My pants and shoes have been stolen," Brooks tweeted shortly after the nominations were announced.
Moments later he mimicked Sally Fields infamous Oscar acceptance speech.
"And to the Academy: "You don't like me. You really don't like me," Brooks added.

And he's right! All the other awards lauded him: from small festival to the Globes. I don't get it. But he has a great attitude about it. I'm glad he's mocking the situation.
The War Horse had seen the Horrors of War, but when he was left at the Glue Factory, War Horse decided to spread some Horror around and make it STicky. Don't Miss or Mess with War Horse!
Did he go Stompy the Horse on them, ya know, like the horse that broke Lana's leg in "Shattered"?
Ezra Miller was in Another Happy Day. He is one to keep an eye on. And I love his eyes.
I think Ezra's excellent and I'm so happy he's getting noticed. I first saw him on USA's "Royal Pain" during S1 he had a recurring role and he was great. S2, not so much. But then again that episode was awful. But I hear he's fantastic in these other films: Another Happy Day, City Island and We Need to Talk About Kevin.

They're fake but they're just saying what everyone is thinking. I'm still staring at Havarnicious or whatever's name and trying to suss it out.
They might actually be more effective than normal FYCs because they're so cheeky and smart.
If someone wanted to do something new and if the Academy weren't so rigid it'd work wonderfully.
Thanks as always for all the gorgeous pics. Yum!
My pleasure!
