Oscar Nominations Are In....

Jan 24, 2012 10:17

It’s here! It’s here! It’s finally here! The Oscar nominations are in signalling the very close end to awards season-finally.

Did Nylon Have Their Picks Right?

It’s been interesting seeing what films finally made it this far. Early Oscar hopefuls were jettisoned pretty quickly namely “J. Edgar” for Best Picture and Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor.

“You ruined my record, old man. If people weren’t watching I’d have my boyfriend Lukas slap you.”

A few months ago I was thinking that there would be no way they could get 5 Best Picture nominees let alone ten, but they came close with nine. People and films that were low on the radar suddenly gained traction like Christopher Plummer for “Beginners” and “The Artist” and “Tree of Life”. At least this year has been intriguing in that nothing was written in stone for months unlike last year where it was pretty much a done deal that Colin Firth and “The King’s Speech” were the ones to beat. There were a few surprises to me like Melissa McCarthy getting the nom for her bawdy turn in "Bridesmaids", yet Charlize Theron not getting a nod for "Young Adult". Michael Fassbender didn’t get Best Actor nominee and Gary Oldman did considering “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” began losing steam with its lack of nominations at other awards. He certainly electioneered for the nomination, unlike Brad Pitt who sat back this season and let the nomination come to him. And no nomination for Albert Brooks for his role in “Drive” when he was the critical darling fairly recently.

Whaa-whaaaa

*Peter's reaction: "“I'm stunned and thrilled to hear about the nomination. I wish more than anything in the world that my wife Bridget O'Connor - who did the lion's share of the adaptation - could be here to enjoy this moment. She would be so happy and so proud. I'm going to go and meet my daughter now and tell her how clever her mother was!”

Peter was on hand for the "TTSS" Q&A I went to and I was so conflicted because the love and admiration he has for his late wife is so evident and her passing is still too fresh for him to even talk about, but he's so CUTE. Oh, my goodness. He reminds me of Ed O'Brien of Radiohead and I'm enamored with Ed. But the entire time he was talking about her and how they met (she was his writing teacher and older than he was so that was their joke: that she had seduced a pupil) I was just thinking if he's ready for a new wife.

~Since Michael Fassbender didn’t get a nomination, I will spam you with pictures of the German-Irish actor who I find oddly appealing. Plus in interviews he talked about how he wanted to be Superman as a kid and that as a kid he started having feelings in his pants for Wonder Woman.

No Oscar, but he did win the London Film Critics Award last week

With “Shame” costar Carey Mulligan

Cute creeper

~I interrupt this post with a jump across the pond.

I’ve been meaning to do a Six Degrees of Separation post about British actors but now this will be a salute to European actors….and Six Degrees of Separation.

Starting out with Tom Hardy. Of course.

This sexpot will next be see in “This Means War”. The film’s date has been pushed up from February 25th to February 14th for Valentine’s Day. That’s exactly what your man wants: to see a film with you starring Chris Pine and Tom Hardy so that you can look at your man like he’s rotten liver with maggots crawling from it.

Anyways: New stills from the film.

More pics of this right sexy bastard

Out at the premiere of “The Iron Lady” looking like Henry the Fifth, but that’s cool.

That Stance!!

He should be satisfied with himself.

I want to see a sack in his hands but not of that

“I can’t argue with that.”

I think Tom and Charlotte are gorgeous together but zebra shoes with a mustard top? She has Eames’ fashion sense.

*Tom’s friends with he with the funny name Benedict Cumberbatch. The two costarred in “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” but also “Stuart: A Life Backwards”

Benedict and Tom have also worked with Jonny Lee Miller in theater. Tom when he was a young thang.

Before he got his tat filled in completely

And Benedict recently in the stage play “Frankenstein”

Benedict is one of the many actors in “War Horse”

*The film costars Tom Hiddleston, “Loki” of “Thor”.

Sherlock and Loki hanging out

*I don’t find Benedict attractive,

Though sometimes he looks decent

…but in a recent interview he said that someone online said he looked like Sid from “Ice Age” and I laughed…felt bad for him…then laughed some more.

He’s not this bad

*Jonny Lee Miller is best friends with Jude Law.

Besides being friends, the two were former producing partners with their studio Natural Nylon. The founding members also included actor Sean Pertwee, Ewan McGregor,

and Jude’s former wife, Sadie Frost

Jude, Sadie and their oldest, Rafferty at Kate Moss’ wedding

Sadie’s oldest son is Finlay. His father is actor ("The Bodyguard" and former Spandau Ballet member Gary Kemp

Finlay Kempy and Rafferty Law

*Jude famously left Sadie for his “Alfie” costar Sienna Miller. Sienna is rumored to be engaged to and expecting a baby with Tom Sturridge of “Pirate Radio” and “Waiting for Forever”.

Someone’s finally going to make an honest woman out of this slapper.

She certainly has a type.

I wonder what Tom’s best friend Robert Pattinson has to say about this.

Prior to Sturridge, Sienna was dating Balthazar Getty who was married at the time.

They weren’t discreet about their relationship at all. But somehow his marriage survived. He and his wife did an interview talking about how they made it work.

*And though he’s not an actor, and not as interesting as his brother Prince Ginger Balls, I have to give it up to Prince William..

Brushing dirt off his shoulders

Clark’s astonishment at “Drive” not getting an Oscar nod
*Did the Academy *not* see the film????!!!
