I got home today, crashed for about 3hrs and woke to find that fire had topped the eastern and southern ridges across the street from me. Luckily, without the wind to fuel it and push it further, it's done what it usually does here - it's burnt down about 1/3rd of the way and then basically turned back on itself trying to climb, so if the winds ( Read more... )

5.40am and still ok - the sun will be up in the next half hour and we'll have to see what the day brings. The quieter wind conditions and cold snap made it possible for the firefighters to start working on the firefronts but the fire to the north of us is now quite big. So far, so good, although that could change within a very short period of time, we're just keeping our fingers crossed. The wind has finally died down enough so that the helicopters can come and do water drops, although the fires are still raging. We're currently under an imminent evacuation warning with bushfires on three sides of us. We have hot dry winds at over 80km/hr feeding them and bringing them in my direction and the winds are expected to continue for several hours more at least.
