X/1999 - Discussions on character's sexuality/couples

Feb 03, 2009 17:48

X spoilers!

Especially Kamui & Fuuma, this question's been haunting me for a long time! After quite a while, I finally accepted them as a sort of couple or twisted romance (depending on if Fuuma was himself or as /Kamui/) but at first I didn't see it that way because I only support canon pairings.

Seeing Clamp's artwork of them & re-visited certain ( Read more... )

According to a CLAMP's interview about CCS:

'One last comment on the subject: I am glad that the readers are happy that Sakura and Syaoran got together, but that anyone would think it's because they make a normal couple... it's a little disconcerting. Sakura didn't chose Syaoran because he's a boy close to her in age. If Syaoran had been a girl, if they had been far apart in age, as long as he was still Syaoran, I think Sakura would have fallen in love with him. It'd sadden me if you thought they're a good couple because they're normal.'I fear that's their general politic about love which makes me feel a little disconcerned because this means Subaru didn't chose Seishiro because he's a male but... because is Seishiro. If Seishiro were all of sudden to reveal he's a female in disguise *sweatdrop* Subaru would love him all the same ( ... )

but still I think CLAMP characters lack of sexual preferences.

I just want to say that I completely and wholeheartedly agree with this statement. <3

Eeeh, thanks for posting this, it's interesting.

I've always thought that Subaru loved Seishiro because he was his "special person" and that the fact he was a man didn't matter at all. It's just happened to be that way.

Besides, I remember Seishirou saying in the manga : "I'm a man and you're a boy Subaru. It's just happened that the person I've fallen in love with is a boy". *Yeah, I know it by heart...facepalm*

When I read this sentence, I assumed that they loved each other because, duh, they're fated lover and that the fact they were both boy was just random.

Dunno. But of course the fact they're both men add a lot to the story, it's like a cherry on top cake :))

CLAMP I LUV U !!!

I have to agree with you in that I also only support canon, regardless of hetero, yaoi or yuri. =) Yes, it's only fair that way. (Though hinting is enough for me to support a pairing, personally, because I think that when authors do hint toward a pairing of their own characters, they certainly don't mind for the fandom to support that pairing ( ... )

Hinting is also fine with me but I only stick to one pairing for each character if they've been hinted with other people (like I support Sub/Sei, but not Kam/Sub which I can't see as a pairing, though I suppose Sub/Sei isn't really unless it's AU which is great to read.)

I read this interview & other people have used this as evidence to prove they're canon, whether Clamp meant this, I'm not sure.

And that pic isn't nice... really. Well I like it. XD

I actually really like CLAMP's refusal to label their characters as far as sexuality goes, even if it seems like they have clear preferences. (Don't care much for the whole One Single Special Person thing, because I really don't think that's the way love works at all, but that's a different issue.) But Fuuma, for example -- I very strongly get the impression that sexuality and romance are just not things he's ever thought too much about even at his age, though I certainly think he could/would have come to love Kamui given enough time. I can't really speak for him as /Kamui/, but then his actions towards Kamui seem, to me at least, to be more an issue of power dynamics than sexual attraction. (If you think about it, it's very similar to the interaction between the two sides of Hinoto when the darker/"evil" one was trying to overcome the other ( ... )

Good point by comparing /Kamui/ to Hinoto's evil side & Kanoe too.

Perhaps I speak in blasphemies, but I find it difficult to think of Kamui and Fuuma's relationship as romantic. Let me clarify so no one gets the wrong idea. I won't even try denying the homoerotic undertones of their relationship. It's here. It's queer. Get used to it ( ... )
