Kawaguchi Haruna is so damn pretty (and damn lucky - she gets to hang out with Daito Shunsuke and Yamamoto Yusuke, fer cryin out loud). God, this drama was such good crack. Have you seen the new movie trailer?

I confess I dont know how much respect I'd have for a grown 30 yr old man falling for a 19 yr old woman. I can't help but feel like the author wrote herself into a corner by making her SO young. Like would she be less pretty and relatable at 26 or 27? come on now. i mean its one thing when period romance novels make the heroines super young and have a big age gap in the couples but in this situation its like ehhhhh? but otherwise it sounds super interesting to me. i love horrible/hilarious people. so entertaining.

To be fair, the author also goes the other way - one of the other OTPs is a 21 yr old guy and a 29 yr old woman. :)

I don't know, normally the age difference might bother me, but it doesn't here, in part because the power differential is sort of even - despite his vast experience in the sack, it's the first time he's ever fallen in love and he's v.v.v. desperate thinking he can't have her, but also because she never comes across as childish. But mmv. I suspect I am too much of a sucker for the whole "super-seducer brought to his knees by power of love" to really object.

ETA: and the age thing is at least not swept under the rug, people do comment on it. So that's something :)

Yeah haha this is where my suspension of disbelief comes to standstill because like he's THIRTY years old and been in 209302 relationships and never fell in love even ONCE? even briefly? riiiight. Its obviously that whole fantasy where the woman was his first and only love and his true love and I'm just like *eye roll* because I don't know it strikes me as so silly, esp since I'd much rather someone have been in love, and learned from that experience so that when they are in love with me now they wont make the same mistakes. I'm sorry I'm not trying to criticize! We all have our things! I am gonna go shut up now. :x

I married the first person I ever love and I am his first love and trust me, it worked out very well - I like knowing I am the only person in his heart. MMV though.

As to how realistic the scenario is in the novel - not at all, I freely admit - but I like my bit of romantic fantasy. This said, there plenty of selfish people who spend their whole lives without loving someone - the fantasy bit isn't that he hasn't been in love in all this time but that he's actually fell for someone now :)

I'm actually surprised you haven't seen Henry Cavill in anything until now. I thought you would've watched the most recent movie adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo.

Also, love the Ouran cap dump. =D I miss the drama.

I tend to stay away from adaptations of the classics I read because I am a purist and they iritate me :)

Yeah, I only watched because my brothers did and I'm very torn about the ending. Better that you stay away.

Ok, so i said i'd rec you some chicklit books and well, it's gonna be long lol.

Re. your comment about Kiss & Tell being out. It's the latest book by Fiona Walker so it's the easiest to get your hands on. Her other books are super hard to find (thankfully i have most of them, if not all in paperback) but if you're going to go through them i'd say start with French Relations (the first in the Tash/Hugo series) followed by Well Groomed. The other book i mentioned before, Kiss Chase is just pure wonderful fluff. It'smy fave along with the trilogy. There's also Walker's Oddlode quartet of books which you might want to try afterwards. You get a lot of backstory for Rory and Faith in those. You also get Spurs but i won't say anymore lol.

Other writers... You've probably heard of that Shopaholic film right? Well, the author of the books on which it's based on, Sophie Kinsella, has also written some fab stand alone books which i pretty much think need to be made into J/Kdramas and i pimped them all in THIS POST. I can give you the pdfs of ( ... )

Re: Fiona Walker. I got the two other Tash and Hugo books and Kiss Chase. If I find out after reading them that my loving K&T wasn't a fluke, I'll get the rest. Alibris is awesome for almost any book in existence. I wish Rory had another name though because it makes me think of Doctor Who (I love DW's Rory but still...confusing).

I read the first Shopaholic ages ago and liked it. I read some other book of hers (about lying) which I liked. Thanks for the link, will explore :)

I loooooove SEP. Love. Didn't realize Kleypas did modern stuff - I will be on it asap.

I think I will have great fun exploring other Jilly Cooper stuff - Rivals is so ridiculously entertaining (I am about halfway through now).

Thanks for all the recs!

Oy, you haven't watched the trashy 'wonder' that is The Tudors?! Henry Cavill plays Charles Brandon, one of the main characters in it. I found the 1st season rather entertaining but didn't watch any of the others. Bit too heavy on gratuitous boinking and too easy on actual history. ;P Henry Cavill was quite pretty though.... ;P

Now that you mention it, I did see a few eps. They really murdered off history (they married Brandon to a composite nonexistent Tudor and in the prcess wiped out the line that leads to current queen). I probably would have stuck w/ it anyway if only it was entertaining.
