Nightshift 25: M21-M30 Hallway

Jul 15, 2007 16:23

As soon as the doors had unlocked, Xemnas already headed outside. His amber eyes scanned the dark hallway, but there were patients nor monsters lurking within the darkness. Keeping his flashlight off as to avoid any unwanted attention, the Superior quickly proceeded ( Read more... )

Hitsugaya finished off the last of the maps and wrote down some brief instructions for the other teams before standing and stepping out of his room. This dinner had actually been somewhat pleasant, without the growling at one another that had occurred the night prior.

He reached under his bed and pulled out the baseball bat he had hidden, and grabbed the radio. Tucking the journal, maps, and orders under one arm, he stepped out into the hallway and leaned up against the wall next to his doorway. He rested the baseball bat against the wall next to him and leaned against the wall himself, waiting for the plethora of people he was supposed to see show up. Including Momo.

This was going to be an interesting night, long before venturing forth had even begun.

Adel's room was only a single hall beyond Homura's, and it didn't take the demi-god long to make his way there. He paused when he saw Hitsugaya, however, knowing that his team "leader" was supposed to be in the very next room, and that this child could very well be him.

Well. It never hurt to check in, did it?

"Are you one of the Arts and Crafts group?" Homura walked past the door of M22, approaching the boy instead. He put his hand on his hip, his typical arrogance increased by his height, Homura easily towering over Hitsu. "I am Homura."

The door opening and closing was enough to wake him. Sanzo stood up, reaching for the flashlight before he went for the door.

The monk had a few ideas of where to head for tonight: that patient possessions room that Hitsugaya mentioned earlier was a start. If he had time, Sanzo also wanted to check out the exterior of the building, check the walls now that the he wasn't under the staff's eyes any long---

The monk suddenly halted in the open doorway, hand still on the handle. He stared. Of all the people here, Homura had to be one of the very last ones he'd wanted to see right now.

Especially after what the bastard pulled earlier.

Sanzo let the door fall shut after him. "What the fuck are you doing here?"

Hitsugaya was about to answer Homura when Sanzo walked out and once again opened his mouth. So the annoying roommate had issues with the potentially troublesome teammate. Great.

"Yes," he answered Homura. "I'm Hitsugaya Toshiro." He then glanced at Sanzo. "He was going to be coming with me. Is there a reason he shouldn't?"

Momo traversed down the hallway and spotted Hitsugaya easily. A smile touched her lips at the sight of her friend and she relaxed a little bit more. He was talking to someone she didn't recognize, so she decided not to interrupt.

Stopping a respectful distance away, the shinigami nodded to Hitsugaya when she made eye contact with him. Hands behind her back, she waited at attention for him to finish his conversation and address herself and Signum. If the knight kept her voice down, Momo would continue conversation with her. Inf act, Momo glanced over at the knight and grinned.

Signum took the cue to continue the conversation. "I find that misleading. As far as I know I never earned that rank; it was conferred on my when I was created. If you don't have formal ranks for leaders of smaller units your own is most appropriate."

By unit size, in fact, Momo's commanders and subcommanders sounded equivalent to something like a major or colonel in the Midchildan army... with only 13 units, maybe even generals. But she led soldiers and handled unit logistics in subordination to another, so it was the closest she could get.

Momo nodded. She was willing to grant the three thousand year-old knight and ex-general the same respect she'd expect of herself. Well, except she was shinigami and Signum was only a modified soul. An advanced modified soul, but a mod soul nonetheless.

"As you are not shinigami, 'vice captain' would be inappropriate, but 'lieutenant' would be similar. It's hard to tell, since the Captain of the First Division is the General of the Gotei 13." She shrugged. "I'm not sure how such ranks equivocate in your army."

A small smile. "Does Lieutenant Signum of the 6th Mobile of the Midchildan Army, Commander of the Wolkenritter work for you?" Sometimes formalities really did end up making names way too long for her tastes. She'd just prefer to introduce her friend as Signum-kun, but that wasn't how Hitsugaya worked.

"6th Mobile Unit," she corrected. If it was to be a formal introduction, her unit's name should probably be included in full. "It's acceptable. But you can leave off the part about the Wolkenritter. There aren't supposed to be parallel command structures." That didn't mean there weren't, but it wasn't official.

"Why is he so particular about titles? He must recognize that they're meaningless between organizations with no formal contact."

"M21... M22," Artemis quickened his pace until he stood in front of M28. Who knows if anyone was actually in the room--but for now he was content to wait for Renji and the other students. If he got bored he could always knock on the door and see if the occupant wanted some company.

Finally! Ed rolled out of bed where he'd been napping and grabbed his notebook, checking the arrays drawn in it. Might as well gets things done quickly so he could do something other than making weapons tonight. He tucked the notebook under his arm and threw open the door.

And bumped squarely into Artermis when he stepped outside.

He glared at the newcomer, retreating a little into his room. "Who the hell are you and that's a really stupid place to stand."

Artemis fell back a few steps as Edward ran into him. He blinked, slightly taken aback, then returned Edward's glare.

"The pleasure's all mine," The boy retorted. "Most will introduce themselves before making demands.

"And for your information, I'm meeting someone here and I didn't hear any movement in your room--so forgive me for standing in public property. I can't imagine what came over me."

Ed crossed his arms over his chest, refusing to back down even a little from this dumb kid. "I'm not most people."

He blinked in surprise when he mentioned meeting someone. Outside of Ed's room? "Makes sense to check if someone's inside the room before standing right outside the door," he growled. "Who are you waiting for outside of my room anyway?"

Valyn was feeling more useful than normal when he exited his room. He'd strapped the large knife to his thigh with a tunic, and was looking forward to spending the evening inside, making use of himself.

It seemed as though the halls were darker every night. Or Valyn's sight just couldn't take the oppressive darkness any longer. Either way, it was an inconvenience. Sighing some, the young Elven Lord decided to use a bit of his magic.

He conjured up a mage light, set the spell, and set it to float just above his shoulder. There, perfect.

Valyn hadn't mad much progress when he heard it. Faint and far away, but instantly recognizable.

Draconic magic.

The elven lord had become very familiar with draconic magic at the Citadel, it had become almost a constant noise as they shaped the fortress to make it defensible. But what in the name of the ancestors was it doing here? Deciding Adelheid could wait, Valyn set his shoulders and loped off in the direction he thought the sound was coming from.

The second the doors unlocked, Reno was stepping out. He'd left his flashlight behind since he didn't really need it. Never had - he'd mostly brought it because he'd happened to destroy Rufus's and the President couldn't navigate the dark as well as he could. But if he remembered correctly, Rufus had snagged a new one from a couple of nights back.

Not that that'd made Rufus any more inclined to let the incident go.
