Day 25: Breakfast

Jun 24, 2007 15:10

Kuja was, in fact, quite surprised to suddenly find himself in bed. An odd turn of events, as he previously remembered investigating the contents of a closet. If the genome hadn't known any better, he would have thought he hadn't even left the room. However, the items he was still holding obviously proved such thoughts untrue; he had left his room ( Read more... )

Renji wasn't certain if he felt better or worse than he had the morning after the metal triangle monster had broken his ribs. On the plus side, he could breathe, and he hadn't thrown up on anything yet. On the minus side, he couldn't really see straight, walk straight, or anything else through the throbbing pain in his head. Even his eyes hurt, which was something not even the worse hangovers had ever done to him. He had a feeling it was only a matter of time before he did become sick, as nauseated as he felt, but pride made him keep his back straight as he shuffled after the nurse ( ... )

[from above]

It was hard to miss the giant man with red hair even if he hadn't been an Akuma. He was the leader one, wasn't he? Or was that the short little one with white hair?

Allen's picked up his tray, still at least half-filled with food, and hurried over as quickly as his weary legs would carry him. The shinigami didn't look very well.

"Mister... Abarai?" Allen asked cautiously.

Renji recognized the voice - the kid that was obsessed with those Akuma things. He really hoped they weren't going to start back up with that. He didn't have the energy to deal with it.

He didn't even look up. His voice was a little muffled, the tone gravelly and tired. "What."

Something was definitely wrong. But Abarai would probably know what was going on, wouldn't he?

"Last night, I must've... passed out," he said with some discomfort. "What happened to the others?" His voice got a bit quieter. He knew he shouldn't be worrying over them, they were technically his enemies. Just that much might be enough for him to be considered a traitor, but... Rukia's touch had been warm. It didn't add up. "Is Rukia ok?"

Gin was not at all pleased to wake up in the white sheets of the institute's bed. The scratches on his ribs had been treated and were almost gone, but worst of all, his knife was missing. He could only hope it was still stuck in the throat of that large and obnoxious creature he'd run into the night before.

He didn't smile as he put his things away, back in their usual hiding spots, but when the nurse arrived to take him to breakfast, he was as bright as ever. A quick analysis of the lunchroom gave him even more bad news. His allies were diminishing(perhaps dead unless they'd treated Jack as well), and his enemies were increasing. He picked up a tray of more questionable western-style food and sat far from the others, though he showed no outward signs of discomfort or unease.

[If you have plans, poke me and I'll delete. XD]

"Look who it is. You're still alive, huh?"

Aidou hadn't bothered to wallow in another round of exhaustion, anger, and discomfort at the routine of once again having a night abruptly cut short. It was better to outrun his thoughts at this point. And his physical maladies.

At least - to the exception of his home - there were always interesting characters afoot.

He had come up behind Gin, and now took a seat uninvited, with that aristocratic air that spoke as if he had every right to do as he wished without Gin's permission.

Aidou was probably one of the last people Gin would have liked to speak with this morning. Luck apparently wasn't with him recently.

"Ara~ and you too Aidou-kun. Did you have an exciting night out?" Gin wasn't about to let the boy get under his skin today. He had more important things to worry about than this child with the hollow-like aura.

One would have to be deaf, blind, and stupid to not develop a sense as to when one's presence became a nuisance. With social functions, the only way to go about it was to pick his targets based on how much his family name, or his alliances, or his very demeanour annoyed others. Gin didn't not seem pleased by him, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

Aidou rewarded Gin with a slight glance. "I should be asking you that. Isn't every night so exciting around here?" He didn't find the man terribly interesting, or terribly useful, but he wasn't looking for anything in particular. Nothing that Gin could give him, other than to pass time and provide a distraction for his weary mind.

The last time he'd seen the other had been... "What's the matter, did Captain Jack touch you in an inappropriate place? When that happens you're supposed to say, 'No!' and tell an adult."

Same as always, the intercom would go off (and from the way the jackass spoke this time he was this close to screaming back at the voice) and whatever he was in the middle of would get rudely interrupted ( ... )

Sai's eyes had followed Sasuke as he had entered, gotten his food, and proceeded to avoid his company in favor of another's. He wasn't about to go after him just yet. There was still another he wanted to see.

In fact, as he was distracted by one acquaintance, the more important of the two arrived. Sai turned back to the blond, face expressionless as Naruto spoke to him again as though he didn't recognize him. Discouraging, that. Surely this strange institution had done something to his mind. That would have to be dealt with.

There was also the possibility that this was an impostor.

"Naruto-kun," he responded in greeting and in affirmation of the boy's question. A smile at once spread across his face. "It's good to see you. We didn't get to finish our conversation yesterday." The fact the boy was still in one piece after the events of last night was also a plus.

"Yeah, glad you made it through your first night," replied Naruto while sitting back in his chair and watching Sai curiously. What was it Sasuke had called him? A replacement?

He seemed polite and friendly and all that, but there was a strange, automatic nature to his smile. Sai looked to be about his age, but if he really was a Konoha-nin Naruto didn't recognize him.

"So you seem to know me," he blinked, genuinely perplexed but also somewhat aware of the weird situation. That Sasuke remembered him spoke a lot of his credibility.

"And I've been able to gather that my memories are kind of screwed up from this place since I got here. Fill me in?"

Waka had never imagined the drawbacks to finding himself in such a crowded place. Being a prophet in Nippon had been relatively easy; certainly there were demons everywhere, but he'd usually only gotten visions of the particularly dangerous ones, or of especially heinous acts they were going to commit that he needed to prevent. And, of course, visions of Amaterasu and what she would be going through, what she'd need his help with.

In short, he saw visions of people who desperately needed his help(and usually only for those people in his immediate area, as he could hardly reach the opposite end of Nippon to help someone there even if he did receive a vision that they were in trouble). In a land with a relatively low population density, like Nippon, this hadn't amounted to much; but in a place like this, it seemed as though the visions never stopped. Particularly at night, when the demons roamed free...

And with Pillow Talk behaving so oddly, and Amaterasu's powers weakened, and the overall strange and insular nature of this place, ( ... )

Hokuto woke up to find herself in the same (?) hospital room, with an empty bed across from her. She looked at the ceiling for a few moments, then started to turn over--and discovered her pockets were still very full. Um... okay... Considering that she'd stolen everything in them, she looked around and then quickly concealed them in a dresser drawer ( ... )

Waka hadn't been particularly social during his time at this strange place called Landel's, aside from a few instances of flute-playing for generally appreciative audiences, and so he was mildly surprised to have company that wasn't Amaterasu, but then she made friends quickly and had plenty of people to talk to. That it was someone else who didn't really have any acquaintances was, in that light, unsurprising. He offered her a slight smile. "Neither do I," he replied. "So I suppose we're in the same boat." He tapped his flute idly on the table; he'd already finished what little breakfast he'd taken, as he still refused to come anywhere near the unrecognizable and largely unappetizing food this place served. Where were simple rice and seafood dishes when you needed them?

"I just woke up last night," she said, sitting down. "Nice timing, you know?" She smiled ruefully. "At least I got warned about everything before much had happened. I don't think I really look like a Kazuko, though..." she reached up and ran a hand through her hair. She was slightly embarrassed that she hadn't thought to brush it once she'd hidden everything, but the nurse's appearance had startled her a little. At least she didn't have obvious bedhead; no, her hair was as neat as if she hadn't slept at all. She felt okay, but aside from that wondered if she had.

"Oh, I'm Sumeragi Hokuto."

The morning actions were starting to become almost routine for MOMO. All things considered, she wasn't sure whether that was a good thing or a bad thing... Either way, when it came to being escorted to breakfast, the realian gave the nurse a small smile and listened politely as she chatted on about nothing in particular.

She hadn't eaten much, or anything really, the previous day, and the smell of the food in the cafeteria reminded her of that fact very clearly. Even if it was only the same, simple styled foods, she didn't think anything could've smelled better. So, after thanking the nurse and receiving a pat on the head in return (though MOMO wasn't entirely fond of that) the pink-haired Prototype picked up a tray and selected some food for herself.

Afterwards, she picked out an empty seat and sat down to eat.

Blue eyes studied the young, pink-haired girl as she claimed an empty seat of her own, coincidentally at the very same table Kuja was seated at. It would seem even the younger canaries were no exception to be caged, to be part of the audience as the plot thickened. The Genome couldn't help but wonder...for what purpose did the puppeteer hold the strings?

Kuja paused his current act of merely eating a meal, briefly studying her before finally speaking;

"Good morning, my lady." The sorcerer's tone was a polite one, merely attempting a civil conversation.

For an Observational Unit, MOMO hadn't been very observant when she picked out a seat. Granted, her sensors weren't functioning to their full capabilities, but she still should've realized someone else was sitting there as well.

The realian looked up from her meal, intending to apologize for failing to ask whether or not it was alright for her to sit at the same table. Although the would-be apology became a slight choke when she glimpsed the silver hair. She was quick to realize, however, that the hair was too long to belong to anyone she knew (and not to mention, neither of the people looked so... well, feminine). She took a drink of juice, coughing a couple more times before she was able to offer a reply.

"G-good morning." She put on a small, mildly bashful smile. "How are you doing, sir?" It probably wasn't the best of questions to ask, considering the type of setting Landel's provided, but it was all she could think of at the moment.

Kuja merely watched as the young girl choked on her juice, offering a small smile as she voiced her question. Unlike certain other small girls she had met, this one seemed rather polite.

"Disregarding the fact we are imprisoned within a rather horrific cage, I am doing fine." he spoke. "And how do you feel on this fine morning?"

Or, as fine as a morning could be in a satanic hospital for the mentally ill.
