Day 25: Breakfast

Jun 24, 2007 15:10

Kuja was, in fact, quite surprised to suddenly find himself in bed. An odd turn of events, as he previously remembered investigating the contents of a closet. If the genome hadn't known any better, he would have thought he hadn't even left the room. However, the items he was still holding obviously proved such thoughts untrue; he had left his room ( Read more... )

Gin was not at all pleased to wake up in the white sheets of the institute's bed. The scratches on his ribs had been treated and were almost gone, but worst of all, his knife was missing. He could only hope it was still stuck in the throat of that large and obnoxious creature he'd run into the night before.

He didn't smile as he put his things away, back in their usual hiding spots, but when the nurse arrived to take him to breakfast, he was as bright as ever. A quick analysis of the lunchroom gave him even more bad news. His allies were diminishing(perhaps dead unless they'd treated Jack as well), and his enemies were increasing. He picked up a tray of more questionable western-style food and sat far from the others, though he showed no outward signs of discomfort or unease.

[If you have plans, poke me and I'll delete. XD]

"Look who it is. You're still alive, huh?"

Aidou hadn't bothered to wallow in another round of exhaustion, anger, and discomfort at the routine of once again having a night abruptly cut short. It was better to outrun his thoughts at this point. And his physical maladies.

At least - to the exception of his home - there were always interesting characters afoot.

He had come up behind Gin, and now took a seat uninvited, with that aristocratic air that spoke as if he had every right to do as he wished without Gin's permission.

Aidou was probably one of the last people Gin would have liked to speak with this morning. Luck apparently wasn't with him recently.

"Ara~ and you too Aidou-kun. Did you have an exciting night out?" Gin wasn't about to let the boy get under his skin today. He had more important things to worry about than this child with the hollow-like aura.

One would have to be deaf, blind, and stupid to not develop a sense as to when one's presence became a nuisance. With social functions, the only way to go about it was to pick his targets based on how much his family name, or his alliances, or his very demeanour annoyed others. Gin didn't not seem pleased by him, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

Aidou rewarded Gin with a slight glance. "I should be asking you that. Isn't every night so exciting around here?" He didn't find the man terribly interesting, or terribly useful, but he wasn't looking for anything in particular. Nothing that Gin could give him, other than to pass time and provide a distraction for his weary mind.

The last time he'd seen the other had been... "What's the matter, did Captain Jack touch you in an inappropriate place? When that happens you're supposed to say, 'No!' and tell an adult."

"Oh, but I always have fun at night Aidou-kun," Gin replied without missing a beat.

Gin had to wonder at the mentality of some of the patients here. Just last night Jack asking him if he'd done something indecent to Kuchiki, and now Aidou implying Jack had done something to him? They must be really strapped for gossip.

"Hooo? Jack didn' tell me you were his lil' girlfriend. The jealous type I see." He smiled widely, "well you'll get nothin' from me, I'm not th' type to kiss and tell." He smirked, paying more attention to the fruit on his plate than Aidou.

He spread his hands. "Oh, no, no. I would never dream of stepping in between you two; you'd make a much better wife. I'm afraid I'm just not the slumming type anyway." Aidou's own effeminate stalker was nowhere in sight, thanks be. However degrading being sent to bed without any prior memory was, at least it had put a quick end to that.

Unlike usual, Aidou was not eating. Rather, he cupped his hands around his face, propping his elbows on the table and watching Gin push his food around. "But enough pointless banter, hmm?"

((from here. When Momo had reached the line where she'd left her tray, she found it gone, presumably cleaned up by the staff. Arms crossed over her chest, the shinigami stared at the food once more as she tried to find an even balance of emotions. She was angry at Hitsugaya, but she was also very confused and still quite upset. Her gaze shifted from the food to the other patients she caught sight of an aggravating smile and silver hair ( ... )

The boy could be so obnoxious. Gin made no reaction to the insults, he found them somewhat amusing actually. But he kept changing the conversation however he saw fit. Gin didn't like being pushed around. "Ara, sounds t'me like you want somethin' Aidou-kun. Shouldn't beat 'round the bush if that's th' case."

He would've continued, but it seemed even his efforts to stay away from the tenth captain and his little girlfriend were to no avail. As she approached he glanced over at the boy, raising an eyebrow. He hadn't learned a thing, had he? Not after Gin's numerous warnings to keep a watch on her. For being a prodigy, the little captain sure had trouble understanding some basic concepts.

Despite what he was certain most of Soul Society thought, he hadn't wanted to hurt the girl. That, along with most everything else, had always been Aizen's decision. Izuru had followed him around just as resolutely, like a frightened puppy, but he hadn't gone so far as to kill the boy ( ... )

Jack woke feeling extremely hungry, and that was about it. He patted his head, where he'd hit the shelves - he'd felt that impact before he'd died, and he was familiar enough with death to know that was what had happened. Still a flawless recovery, though he did feel a bit drained ( ... )

Aidou, ever the wily conversationalist, promptly ignored Gin's inquiry when an unfamiliar approached the table, one obviously familiar with Ichimaru. That, and she'd been talking to the young boy who was also familiar with Ichimaru. It seemed it was a broad circle of acquaintances.

Captain? That was kind of funny, though.

"Hello," he echoed pleasantly. "My name's Aidou Hanabusa. What's yours?" A quick and simple approach. Aidou didn't see the point in being extra diligent when he wouldn't be seeing anyone of these people again once he escaped.

But his was not the only introduction. He knew the exact moment Jack moved his arm - because gods, like hadn't ever had that move pulled on him, his overly touchy Vice President notwithstanding - and caught Jack's wrist, twisting it violently, all under the table where it couldn't be seen. He kept up his warm smile for the girl's benefit. (Girls, of course, were worth smiling for ( ... )

"Thank you, Captain," Momo said and sat down.

She smiled at Aidou. "I'm Hinamori Momo." Aidou looked young, but Momo knew better than to treat someone differently because of how they looked. She opened her mouth to say more when another man walked up. it seemed Ichimaru had found a friend.

Her smile warmed at the his greeting; he seemed quite charming. "We haven't. Vice Captain Hinamori Momo," she replied with a slight bow of her head.

Even Tousen would have caught the glare Hitsugaya sent his direction as Momo seated herself at Gin's table. That, at least, was amusing. He was more than a little surprised, however, to see another person he'd presumed dead just last night. Must be the day for it.

Gin's smile never faltered. "An' you too Jack." Jack, thankfully, seemed content to pester Aidou with whatever strange game of footsie they were playing. He focused his attention instead, on Momo. The sooner this was dealt with, the better. "To what do I owe this lil' visit Momo-chan?" he asked sweetly.

Aidou seemed to want to keep things under the table; Jack, on the other hand, had no sense of shame. He brought his hand up, wiggling his fingers. "Unfriendly, humorless little thing this morning, aren't you," he commented to Aidou. "Did someone have a rough night?"

He gave Momo another dazzling smile. She seemed very sweet. But he also noted Gin's tone when he spoke to her. Another one with some history. That was always interesting. "A Vice-Captain with a lovely smile," he said. "I wish you were part of my organization. Maybe I can talk you in to signing up some time." He threw in a wink, as well. Considering that she seemed to know Gin - and what he knew of Gin, and of Rukia, he knew that was a very, very silly statement. But no one at this table knew what he knew, and he was happy to play the part of the innocent bystander.

Aidou couldn't help the expression of mild incredulity that skated across his features at Jack's supposed observation. It seemed he was just trying to blame Aidou for his own lack of tact, and turn it into another round of shallow teasing. Didn't he ever get sick of that nonsense?

"I'd expect you'd find my adventures a dull story, no doubt," came the blank response. He had no desire to rehash prior events. Although he had no tangible apprehensions about his current company to urge him to leave, he had not had gainful relations with either Jack, or Gin, and what little he knew of Hinamori Momo, he could attribute to her being involved with Abarai and his circle.

As he was not a part of it, he said nothing to interrupt the conversation.

Momo couldn't help it; she giggled lightly at Jack's flirting. It was rather refreshing to be treated well by a man. "Now that is a tempting offer, Harkness-taichou," she replied, her smile widening. A tiny bit of color touched her cheeks. "I'll keep it in mind, though I'm not sure I could properly work with such a man as yourself."

Her attention moved to the other shinigami. "Now, Captain, you know we are not on such familiar terms. Please do not call me 'Momo-chan'." She glanced over at Aidou and offered him a small smile, he was certainly being quiet, before looking back to Gin.

"I simply had a horrible night with people I've never met, in a place I didn't know. I come in here this morning and Hitsugaya has nothing but harsh words for me, and I wasn't about to sit there and listen to him lecture me over things I do not understand." She smiled. "You were the first familiar face I saw after that."

She paused for a moment looking worried. "I can leave if you'd prefer so."

Curious, curious, he thought. Jack's innocent offer was amusing enough, though the human captain probably didn't see the humor in it. He wasn't really certain how much the man knew, only that he'd met with Kuchiki in the not so distant past. "Isn't she?" Gin added, since they were all playing pretend. "Her captain's a lucky one, ne? My vice, Izuru isn't near as cute as she is."

He nearly replied that he found almost every aspect of Aidou very dull, not just whatever story he was going to spin, but thought better of it. For now at least, the boy was being fairly quiet.

Gin neglected to mention to Momo that it was also improper to correct a captain, but it was almost cute how she tried. She'd never had the courage to say more than a few words to him in the past. "Maa~ Jus' playin'. I'm allowed, aren't I?" He said teasingly.
