Day 25: Breakfast

Jun 24, 2007 15:10

Kuja was, in fact, quite surprised to suddenly find himself in bed. An odd turn of events, as he previously remembered investigating the contents of a closet. If the genome hadn't known any better, he would have thought he hadn't even left the room. However, the items he was still holding obviously proved such thoughts untrue; he had left his room ( Read more... )

Masaru couldn't help but feel a little disoriented as he felt himself waking up. Had that all been some kind of dream...? No, of course not. He could still feel the sting of the burn wounds to prove it, and was a little surprised to find that his arms had completely bandaged up. What the hell happened? That last thing he remembered was Luke waking up.

When that nurse came, the boy really, really wanted to get her to show him the way to the Head Doctor's office, punch that guy's lights out, and just get the hell out there. But he couldn't do that - there were some people he needed to talk to first. Besides, he wasn't about to fight on an empty stomach. In the end, he ended up grabbing a seat at random - there were a couple of familiar faces, but none he felt like dealing with. Not right now.

Kairi had been quite worried about Renji before she passed out, and after she passed out, waking up in her bed the next morning. While she knew Renji was a strong person, she still ... couldn't help but worry. Why had he been bleeding? She had been thinking this as she followed her nurse down the hallway to the cafeteria. Waving goodbye to the woman, she calmly moved to the line to grab at a random plate of food, before looking around.

Her normal seat was taken ... hm. Looking around, she saw an empty table ... one lone person sitting down. Shrugging her shoulders, she moved to stand infront of him, smileing softly. "Um ... is it okay if I sit he--" Then she saw he was bandaged and worry filled her. "Oh, are you alright?!"

Seeing so many people injured made her worried. Was she next?

Eating alone was something Masaru was not used to, so he was definitely glad when someone decided to approach. By now, he and Agumon had usually already in haled all of their food and were arguing over the last of whatever was left, so the silence was really weird.

"Huh? Oh, I'm fine," the boy shrugged. He couldn't help but smirk and add an arrogant, "I've had to deal with worse than this."

Kairi blinked in surprise. "O-oh, ... really?" He was all bandaged up, though! Yet she didn't really want to be nosy and ask, considering she didn't even know who the boy was. So instead she let out a cough and sat down infront of the other redhead, flashing him her best smile. "My name's Kairi, by the way. Sorry to interrupt you or something ... I just saw you sitting alone, so ... I thought you might like some company."

She had always felt bad for someone sitting alone in a cafeteria. It was pretty much her job to go over and talk to them.

Ed had come over and helped him into the room, but just as he set foot in the door, he woke up in his own bed. He snapped into a sitting position and instantly regretted it. Despite the healing last night, the wounds hadn't closed and the pain was still there. Looking down at his arms, he was surprised to see that he had been stitched and bandaged up by the nurses here - or he assumed the nurses had done it ( ... )

Reinforce was getting used to this place. Used to the false peace of the days, the chaos of the nights... and not the jaded, hollow, nerve-deadening sort of passivity that came with too many shocks. The fear and tension she had carried with her in the first few-days, carefully buried, had begun to genuinely abate ( ... )

Ritsuka blinked when someone suddenly joined him and it took him a moment before he finally realized who she was. The night had been dark and he hadn't had a lot of time to get acquainted with his rescuers. Conversation hadn't exactly been a priority at the time. Ritsuka bowed his head slightly when Reinforce sat down and shrugged when she inquired to his health. "Whatever you did last night worked. Thanks to you, what's left over doesn't hurt much."

Even if it did hurt, Ritsuka wouldn't show it. He was so used to dealing with pain - burns, stabbings, near drownings and the like - that it was a simple task to push the aching and the stinging to the back of his mind. He picked up one of the English muffins and nibbled on it, looking up at the woman who had helped save his life. "...I'm Aoyagi Ritsuka. What's your name?"

"I'm glad to hear it." Reinforce nodded in affirmation at his response. It did feel good to hear another thank her for aid... to finally feel as though she was moving towards Hayate's vision for her. It was shameful, really, to be getting giddy over something that was ultimately still causing this child pain. She was supposed to be more stoic than this, too...

"I'm Reinforce. We wrote each other on the board." He had mentioned being the youngest around, and seeing the boy for the first time in full light she was struck by the truth of it. He couldn't have more than a couple years on Hayate.

Her sympathy increased instantly.

SubZero had been right behind HK all the way to the cafeteria, and by the time they had reached there, he wasn't sure if he wanted to laugh, or run up and strangle HK from behind. After all, there could be only one meatbag that HK was ranting about... since he seemed to be in such a foul mood, SubZero decided to take a seat away from him once he had his food.

Still, it showed that he had actually gotten to HK. The assassin droid deserved to be taken down a few pegs, and bringing up his human anatomy was apparently the best way to do that.

((Coming from here.))

Haku picked up a plate of fruits and water, smiling at the woman who gave him his food.

Now to find a place to sit. He shouldn't go back over to Richter-san just yet. He'd rather wait for a more relaxed time.

Ah, a quiet table with a man who looked like the usual sort he found himself around. Aggresive and unhappy.

With a bright and warm smile, Haku bowed his head. "May I join you?"

He'd been quietly picking at his food, still suspicious of it and not trusting the people who ran this place not to slip something into the food to mess with the patients.

However, he needed to eat, so he'd have to risk whatever they were going to drug him with to keep his strength up. And since none of the other patients he'd seen appeared to be suffering ill effects, he was willing to put up with it. It also was a lot better quality food than he'd expected.

SubZero looked up from his tray when a young girl approached him. "Go ahead." Anyone would be better company than HK right now, and hopefully she wouldn't be as insane as everyone else was.

Haku set his tray down and sat. He picked at the food for a moment before starting in on his fruit. He looked up at the other man. "I'm sorry, but are you new?"

He didn't recognize him, but then, he didn't recognize a lot of people here. Still.... he thought he would at least have remembered a face or two.

Asch was more than a little surprised when it was suddenly day again. It seemed his roommate had failed to inform him of the abrupt changes. He didn't have much time to think about that, though, before a nurse entered the room and cheerily exclaimed that it was breakfast time. He said nothing to her, but allowed himself to be escorted to the cafeteria without resistance. He wanted-- needed to see more of this place, and it seemed the best way to do that was to play along. At least for the time being.

The smell of the food in the cafeteria made him feel anything but hungry; the same as the dinner he had awoken to the previous night. Still, he knew he had to eat something so he finally set a piece of fruit and a cup of water on his tray, only to start as the nurse who insisted on walking him through the line set an additional breakfast sandwich on the tray as well ( ... )

Luke had been very looking forward to having some physical evidence to show the nurses that something was wrong. Were they working for Landels, or were they really unaware of the weird stuff that happened at night? Well, he was going to find out ( ... )

The day was still young and already it had the makings of becoming a 'one of those days' type days. Asch tensed slightly as he was addressed, not looking up to see who it was speaking to him. He really didn't need to look; there was no mistaking who the voice belonged to. And given the circumstances, as well as what he himself believed, Luke was just about the last person he had wanted to see at that moment.

"I'm not supposed to be here?" he repeated, adding a short, dry laugh as he stared straight ahead rather than looking at Luke. "Then tell me, just where am I supposed to be? Back on Eldrant? Maybe somewhere on Auldrant, if it even still exists? Another place that I don't even know about yet?"

Asch pushed his seat back, standing before he turned to face the replica-- his replica-- fully. "Instead of worrying about me, maybe you could tell me what you're doing here. What any of us are doing here, for that matter. Just how badly did you screw things up this time?!"

Well, at least he knew this was really Asch. Only Asch would sound so angry at just being addressed by him. And how could he blame him? But Luke was more concerned with the fact that Asch was here.

Though some of the stuff Asch said was confusing. Eldrant? What was he talking about?

"I... I don't know! I just woke up here, I... That's not the point! You're not supposed to be here! You're supposed to be freeing Lorelei!" It was the truth, right? One of them had to do it, Asch was more suited to do it, and Luke was supposed to -

When did Asch get here anyway? This was all starting to hurt his head. Damnit, why couldn't things be simpler for once?

"Did you just get here?" Might as well start at square one. "I woke up here after I tried to get rid of the miasma... On the Tower of Rem. I'm still here, so I guess it didn't work."

Now that Luke thought about it, didn't Asch lend him his power? Did they come here together? The Institute was so large, it was possible Luke just didn't see him right away. Oh no, maybe he did screw up!

The shift from night to day was a lot more sudden than Hitsugaya had expected. One minute he was waiting in the hallway on the second floor for Ichimaru to emerge, the next he was sleeping soundly in his bed. It was one detail Renji had left out in his report...ultimately a minor one, but it made a lot of sense based on how the place was designed. Maybe there was something involving the breaking of day that brought people here. Mabye that's why he woke up during breakfast previously ( ... )

Momo awoke in her room, safely tucked in her bed as if she hadn't just been staring down a giant furry undead dragon monster thingy. It was rather disconcerting to say the least. She listened to the intercom as she got to her feet and checked herself over just to make sure nothing had changed. A glance over showed Integra sleeping just as soundly, the files she'd found the night before nearby. Momo chose not to wake her as the last thing she had said to the woman before running into the fray was effectively a you'll just be in the way. Yes, the truth, but the knight had a lot of pride and she wasn't sure how the woman took it ( ... )

Hitsugaya's eyes widened in surprise and horror as he felt familiar hands grip his shoulders. As he heard her voice, the one voice he knew as well as his own, he visibly tensed. Afraid to turn and see the truth for his own eyes, he stared dumbly at his plate of watermelon ( ... )

He was real. The sound of his voice, the warmth filtering through his clothing. He was real. This was real. It really was Toshiro. And he was trembling, something she hadn't seen since they were kids. He was afraid. What was he afraid of?

Momo slid her hands from his shoulders down over his chest, effectively hugging him from behind. She grabbed at the front of his shirt, knuckles standing out white if she was holding on for dear life, and pulled him back against her.

Head still bowed, eyes closed, she drew in a shuttering breath. “We're dead, Toshiro. Dead. Me by zanpakuto and you... What possibly could have killed you?”

“I... I deserve to be in this place of horrors, but not you.” Another tear slipped down her face and pattered onto Hitsugaya's neck. “Not you...”
