Day 25: Breakfast

Jun 24, 2007 15:10

Kuja was, in fact, quite surprised to suddenly find himself in bed. An odd turn of events, as he previously remembered investigating the contents of a closet. If the genome hadn't known any better, he would have thought he hadn't even left the room. However, the items he was still holding obviously proved such thoughts untrue; he had left his room ( Read more... )

Hakkai awoke with bandages around his side, right eye, and right hand, and no idea of how they'd got there. The latter was remedied after a few moments as the memory of last night started to filter back in.

He followed the nurse quietly to the cafeteria, ignoring her protest as he bypassed the food entirely to sit at a table away from the few others already in the room. He dropped his head into his hands, ignoring the twinge of pulled wounds, equally ignoring the nurse as she brought him over a tray filled with entirely too much food. His stomach lurched at the thought of eating anything. Instead he sat and remembered.

Oh god, what had he done?

Nel had awakened this morning with bandages - and her runes had healed enough to make sturdy scabs, she discovered upon further inspection. It had been apparent that they'd put some pretty special salve on the wounds, as they'd mostly healed. Touch proved irritating, but Nel suspected that it would be fully healed by tomorrow. Unless, of course, she aggravated it more. If anything, she'd discovered that her different runological spells irritated different parts of her body ( ... )

Hakkai had been convinced that he was a terrible person since long before he'd come to Landel's, but she could try.

He glanced up quickly, face clouding over in a moment of recognition before smoothing into a not-quite-smile. Typical Hakkai for you. He was almost surprised she'd recognize him, considering the differences between that form and this one, and he was certainly surprised she'd approach him for anything, except perhaps to tell him what a monster he was. He would completely understand that. This calm sympathy, however...

He looked her over carefully, though subtly. He didn't remember doing much to this one, but that didn't necessarily mean she hadn't been injured. "I believe I should be the one asking you that."

Nel was, luckily, an expert at recognizing people - a spy who couldn't remember subtle details in faces wasn't much of a spy. It was true, he did look different, but the facial structure was still very much the same, as was the haircut. And likewise, she gave him a once-over, then shook her head. "You needn't worry. Any damage done to me last night was done by my own hand."

"And I assume you remember all of your actions last night." If he did, he'd probably been dealing with the ramifications of what he'd done. "I'm curious as to what they did exactly, if you remember that."

The soldier seemed all business, but she was not above politesse - too long of a conversation without an introduction could easily become awkward. "But let me introduce myself first - I'm Nel Zelpher."

Takaya scowled at the darkness that greeted him, along with that fucker's voice. He heard the door to his room open and a nurse filed in quietly for him. He tilted his head towards the sound of her footsteps. Odd.... his head didn't hurt nearly as much as it had before.

There were other footsteps as well. Probably more big guys, in case he tried to pull the same shit he did yesterday. Much to his nurses relief, Takaya sat up and stood all on his own, with a minimum of cussing and grumbling.

He was led into the cafeteria and just growled when asked what he wanted to eat. So he was given a 'breakfast sandwich', juice, and fruit. He informed the nurse that she could go fuck herself when she tried to help him and instead picked up the sandwich on his own, biting into it.

Not too bad. He guessed he could live with this. For now.

Opening his eyes, Lee thought about how much he hated this place and the many things that it was doing to him and his friends. He wanted to find that Head Doctor and teach him a lesson on ethics ( ... )

Lee didn't have to look too far for Naoe. He came into the cafeteria and went straight too the two boys. He didn't bother with food for now, he wasn't hungry.

"Takaya-san," he said, bowing his head slightly. "How are you feeling today? Do you mind if I join you and your friend?" He didn't even look at Lee.

Truthfully, the night before had left Naoe feeling extremely drained when woke that morning. Staying with Takaya and talking with him had made him feel almost every emotion that was describable. He felt weak and unworthy, but he had to make sure that Takaya was at least feeling a little better.

Takaya turned slightly to face Lee's voice and snorted softly. "Of course I'm alive. I didn't do any-fucking-thing last night but sit in my room."

He tore a bit off of the sandwich he held and ate it. Scowling to himself, he wondered how long he was going to be so useless.

Naoe walked up and his hands tightened on his sandwich. "I'm fine," he mumbled, turning his face down towards his plate. "Do what you want."

Oh, this is brilliant.

Two steps away from one of the rooms, and Reno was back in bed. This place had about as good timing as the telepath did. Which was to say it sucked.

His hand had been bandaged again, but he was used to this enough by now that he didn't pay much attention. He shoved the pipe inside his closet instead. His roommate was still sleeping, and that was just as well.

He had no idea what the hell an English muffin was until he set eyes on it and recognized it as just one of the usual breakfast items. Apparently, this place just liked giving the food odd names ( ... )

Reno glanced up as Elena walked over, glad to see that she had, in fact, recovered.

"Feeling okay?" he said, waving for her to take a seat. "I have no damned clue what happened. One sec you were fine, and then...Did you feel anything weird? I didn't see anything, but..."

And that was really what unnerved him the most. Invisible things floating the hallways at night did not sit well with him. If the day hadn't ended right then, would she have died?

Damn.

"Don't apologize. Wasn't your fault you got - possessed. Or something." He looked at her. "Uh, though I should offer an apology of my own for you walking in on that mess earlier."

Not that he actually felt any sort of responsibility for said mess - the blame rested solely on Schuldig and his buddies, thank you very much - but he did kinda feel bad she'd arrived in the midst of it all. And he really hadn't meant to make her feel like a third wheel, but from the way she'd walked out, it seemed he had. She obviously knew what had gone on between he and Rufus. Even if Schuldig hadn't ( ... )

The routine for the morning was the usual. Roll out of bed, stash the gear and patiently wait for the nurses to pass by and retrieve them. The bat he stored in the closet, but the shoved the rose hip into a sock, which he nestled snugly at the bottom of the drawer. Hopefully, he could get to when dinner rolled around. He wouldn't need it before then. He took a quick glance at Omi to make sure the boy was ok. He still felt a little bad for upsetting him the night before.

When a nurse escorted Kurama to the cafeteria, he gathered up a small amount of food and took a seat at and empty section of table. There wasn't really anyone he recognized in the room yet, though he kept an eye out for Ken, Yohji, or Cliff. Just to make sure they were still fairing well from the night before. And then, there was Ginji to watch for as well. Kurama hoped the boy hadn't gotten himself into any kind of trouble last night...

Ginji's nurse brought him in with in a wheelchair. His stomach was wrapped in clean white bandages under his shirt and his leg and carefully covered as well. The foot that hadn't almost been completely eaten off was without a slipper, the other one was wrapped up. If someone looked close enough they could see that it was still missing its heel ( ... )

Kurama looked up when a nurse wheeled a patient over to him. Normally, they left him alone for the most part. After all, he'd never had an incident of misbehaving... Not yet, at least. But when he noted that the wheel-chair patient was Ginji, Kurama's expression switched to surprise. What had happened last night?

The boy looked terrible, which only made Kurama feel guilty for leaving him alone last night. But it wasn't just that... Ginji wasn't acting as himself. The usually light-hearted and innocent blond seemed far less sunny this morning.

"You shouldn't act up during the day," Kurama warned once the nurse was out of earshot. "You're going to land yourself into even more trouble. And there's more of them than us." He paused, the rest of his breakfast forgotten as he looked Ginji over more carefully, frowning just a bit.

"...Are you.. Raitei?"

Raitei's eyes moved slowly from watching the nurse leave to Kurama. He stared at Ginji's friend without changing his expression. There was nothing but anger in his eyes. His right are twitched slightly as he tried to pick it up, but his muscles still wouldn't respond as he wanted them too. He let it stay for a moment, but refused to stay useless. He was going to force his body to do what he wanted it to, even if it hurt.

He didn't answer Kurama, finding no need to speak. He didn't pull his eyes away from him either and gave the demon his full attention. He wanted to kill this person as well, but without the ability to create so much as a spark, let alone move it didn't seem as if that were an option.

Allen woke with a start, sitting up sharply, only to see a few lingering stars. Had he passed out? Dammit... He cursed his own weakness at last night's activities. Why couldn't he hold the invocation? It wasn't even his more powerful form! It was pathetic ( ... )
