Go directly to Ramona. Do not pass "Go". Do not collect 200 Landel Dollars. In other words, Scott was moving fast. He blamed Candy Land for his thinking in board game metaphors. Where was Wichita tonight, anyway, he wondered? Maybe he would see her on her way out of the girls' block tonight as well ( Read more... )

This hallway was basically the same as all the others had been, which seemed in line with the map Loki had taken care to memorize earlier. Which meant that up ahead, there was the door to the outside. He already caught the faint whiff of fresh air, and it was strange, nothing like what he was used to in Asgard - and not really all that much like Midgard as he'd experienced it briefly. There was an odd heaviness that put him on alert, though there was no outward sign of that and he didn't even pause as he breathed it in and considered it.

For now, he remained silent, moving easily along in the darkness as if it was a familiar friend. He always preferred to wait and see; people often said the most interesting and useful things into silence.

It was as they neared the door to the recreational field that Riku's stepped slowed. There was enough trouble usually brewing in this area that he didn't want his company for the night to be alarmed. It was the least he could do; alarm, in the end, was different from fear. As much as it was tempting to put him up to the test on that statement, he figured he had to be fair. After all, Sora probably wouldn't be pleased with the news that he didn't behave that way.

Then again, Sora might understand after Riku told him some of what he had to say.

"There's often trouble out this way," he remarked. "I'm sure you can handle it since you don't do the fear thing, but I figured I'd tell you. Sometimes it's someone shooting at you. Other times, you get turned into a monster and forced to attack someone. It varies." Riku purposely affected the casual tone of it, even if these were things that had bothered him in the past. He shrugged easily and waited to see how the other guy responded.

It was painfully clear he was being mocked, but Loki was in no position to do something about it immediately. That was fine; he had a long memory and more patience than the sad little mortals could comprehend.

He maintained his pleasant smile as Riku spoke, eyebrow twitching slightly at the dig but nothing more. "I see. Is the potential shooting with arrows, or some friskier modern technology that I am not yet acquainted with? And is this transformation you speak of some instantaneous bit of magic, or are there warning signs that might be exploited?" His smile went knife edged. "Though of course any way it falls, I shall do my best to inconvenience you as little as possible."

"So I need to teach you some things, too," Riku decided. It hadn't occurred to him that this guy was so behind on all of that, but it was just as well. There was the fact that Sora would've been more patient playing teacher than him, but he could deal with the change in roles. "I can handle that," he added a beat later with a shrug. No matter what they did, he figured he could throw out some information ( ... )
