Nightshift 24: F1-F10 Hallway

(starting at the end of the hall in F10)At the strange cryptic message that came over the intercom and the quiet click of the locks coming undone, Max exchanged a glance with her roommate and slipped towards the door. She didn't bother with trying to find a makeshift weapon, she could handle herself well enough without one, but she'd tucked the ( Read more... )

Susan was feeling rather discouraged by what the room had to offer. She grabbed the flashlight and the radio as well, but that was it for useful things. Maybe one of the bars from the bed would work as a weapon, but she didn't have any way of getting it unbolted. The flashlight was pretty heavy, though, it'd do in a pinch as a club.

It was just so archaic. All of it.

She followed Max out into the hall; Susan was comfortable either leading or guarding someone's back. And since both of them were new here, it probably didn't matter who went first. Though at least Max had been out of the room before.

Besides, she though, How much does it matter when this is probably just all in my head anyway?

"Do you need a light?" Max murmured softly to the woman behind her, her night-adapted vision still watching for any sign of movement or any clue that they were no longer alone. Susan might have had military training, but Max doubted she had feline vision and the hall was dark by normal standards.

She glanced down the long hall of doors once more, hesitating. "And would you prefer we head out on our own or see if there are others in these rooms?"

"Yes, I do," Susan said. "You don't?" She flipped on her flashlight, but kept it pointed at the floor near her feet for now.

She frowned. "Do you know anyone else here?" she asked. "It sounds like we can probably handle ourselves..." Though there was the idea that maybe some others that had been in her fleet were here.

"Not exactly," Max answered evasively, not going into detail. "But I don't mind you having it on. I can see as well with it on as off. Besides, it might help others find us. Let's just hope its others that we don't mind finding us ( ... )

Fortune smiled upon Naminé this night, for she didn't have to go and meet Artemis and whomever would be coming with them alone. Raven had agreed to come with them, and Naminé felt better knowing she had extra protection. She didn't know Raven for very long, but Naminé already felt like she could trust the other girl.

"We'll meet Artemis at room M47," She told Raven, while looking at the map she had sketched out. It didn't seem far. Yet she remained nervous, comforted only by the face that she wasn't alone and the Head Doctor didn't have anything to say to add to her nerves.

Rangiku stretched one final time before grabbing her knife and the makeshift sheathe and stepping out into the corridor. The radio was shoved into her back pocket just in case she needed it later on.

She stepped outside, closing the door quietly behind herself and started along it towards the main corridor. Her ears perked up as she overheard someone mentioning 'Artermis' and the room that she'd been directed to over the bulletin. There had been a girl, hadn't there? Namine?

She approached the two girls casually, trying to make herself as non-threatening as she could. "Ne, would one of you be Namine by any chance? I'm Matsumoto Rangiku."

"Alright." Judging by the bulletin board post, Naminé already had plans for the night, which made Raven wonder why she let her tag along in the first place. Well, it was still a good opportunity to do some more exploration.

Whether she liked it or not, roaming the halls at night, alone, wasn't very recommendable. She didn’t know if Naminé could defend herself, but at least she was smart enough to know when to run away.

Then, after leaving the room, they were joined by another wo-

Good god. How could she walk around and not fall over herself?

"She is." Raven said, pointing to her roommate

Upon hearing the woman introduce herself, Naminé's eyes brightened up a bit. Matsumoto... Was she the "Vice Captain" mentioned on the Bulletin Board? That sure made things easier, as now Artemis was the last person to find.

"Yes, I'm Naminé," She confirmed. "Are you the Vice Captain Artemis and I were supposed to meet?"

She could walk without the crutches now, but it was still difficult. Lust moved slowly, her bladed knuckles held at her side. She'd wasted far too much time as it was - how many nights had she done nothing? Three? It was pathetic and there was no excuse for it.

Tonight she intended to get something done.

"Watch where you're going!" Lust snapped, turning to glare at the girl who'd blundered into her. Was it so difficult to keep an eye on what one was wandering into? She kept her clawed weapon lowered, at least, immediately recognizing the child as no threat. Hadn't she seen her with River on occasion?

As the doors unlocked, Rukia was already gathering up what she would need for the night: the metal bar, flashlight, a few pens, and her notebook. She considered the radio, but Captain Hitsugaya would probably have specific orders for them. Following cryptic clues from the man on the radio was probably not in those orders. Besides, hadn't he just said that he was tired of this, anyway?

Using a tightly rolled bed sheet as a makeshift belt again, Rukia tucked the bar into it. Wishing Kairi good luck, Rukia switched on the flashlight and slipped quietly into the hallway.

Rukia caught sight of Rangiku, but the Vice Captain was already taking with a couple girls. Rukia gave her a nod just the same, and hurried off, feet nearly silent on the hard floor.

Miku had waited for her roommate to crutch out, and collected her journal, flashlight and radio before stepping out into the emptying hallway. She traversed it in the first large group, usually, but she felt a little sluggish and tired - maybe it had been a bad idea to play demon tag with those boys.

They were much better at it that she'd ever been. Still, she padded in the sturdier outdoor slippers.

Alfons was waiting. Miku would not keep her friend waiting!
