It had sounded all so very hard to believe, the things that Vino-san and Maya-san had told him. Though Seishin had been skeptical, he couldn't help but think that something was terribly wrong with this place, no matter if the nurses were real or soldiers in disguise. The announcement at least confirmed as much, dropping the facade they had

On his desk lay three items: an envelope, heavily blacked out with marker; a folded letter written in a familiar hand; and a photograph. The first two he'd inspected enough times to have practically memorized them, and it was the picture he'd been staring at before Aguilar's voice came on. His mom, his brother, Aurelan and their son. The happy circle of his family, warm and complete. If there was someone missing, it wasn't Jim - and he suspected anyway that that missing person was the one holding the camera with steady hands and an affectionate eye ( ... )

He sat, rigid and focused, as the intercom came on. After what had been done to him here, he had little trust for this place or those in charge of it, even if the ownership had supposedly changed. What this person said sounded appealing, of course, which only made sense. What better way to gain the populace's trust than by telling them what they wanted to hear? By manipulating them into doing what they wanted with respect after harsh treatment? ZEX had done this himself, it was all too obvious. He wasn't about to fall for such talk so easily.
He doubted that there would truly be a reward for taking whatever it was that had been left in the medical wing. While they did seem intent on not outright killing their prisoners, he knew from personal experience that they did enjoy torture. So much like the Ilwrath, these humans, and in a reasonable world, he would not be able to make such an apt comparison. Whatever it was probably would have no benefit and horrific side-effects ( ... )

Most of the words was lost to him however as he listened to that dreamy accent. An angry accent even. So much better. Settling his glasses into place, Grell watched the intercom, wondering just what the man on the other side looked like. Hopefully something handsome to match that voice. Handsome, smooth as his accent was delicious, cold and calculating, cruel most likely, a dictator and one not afraid of a little violence to get the desired results... Oh yes, the perfect sort of person. And with good taste, too, if the uniforms were his ( ... )

He was ready to snap out an insult when he heard the knock, but stopped when he heard Souji's voice.
"Yes, I'm here." It was still short and ill-tempered, but he doubted that would put the younger man off, much. He did not, however, actually stand to let Okita in the room, instead staying at his empty desk.

"Frowning so much is going to ruin your good looks you know," he teased, giving the older man an impish smile. Best to keep behind the closet wall in case Hijikata wasn't in the mood for teasing tonight; especially considering what he was about to do to him. Maybe it wasn't so smart.... But then it would certainly get Hijikata's mind off whatever was bothering him. "It would be quite a shame for that to happen."

"They're just being wasted here anyway," he added with a grumble. There were a lot of things lacking in this place, and good female companionship was one of them, not that he really spent much time dwelling on it. There were more important things to concentrate on. "I assume you're here for a reason?"
It was possible he wasn't. It was totally in the realm of belief that Souji would come by for the express purpose of teasing him. But after the day they'd had, he doubted the young man would be quite that frivolous.
