So this was finally it. They were finally going home.

Billy stood outside on the deck of the ship, leaning against the railings and looking out over the ocean. He hadn't been outside much in the past few days; staying cooped up in the safe zones was a lot more... well, safe than being anywhere else. Besides, he hated goodbyes, especially really emotional ones. It didn't matter if he was involved in them or just watching -- they were awkward either way. And the DRT room was simply filled with them.

Flonne had a lot of people to say goodbye to, but one of them was missing. She hadn't been able to find Doctor Horrible anywhere and she couldn't leave without telling him goodbye and wishing him luck!

She'd wandered around looking for him and finally made her way to the deck, where she'd been standing barely an hour beforehand taking out battleships and fighter jets. Funny how things changed in such a short time. Of course, she stopped thinking about that when she saw the familiar figure just a bit further down.

"Horrible-san!" she called, running down the deck and throwing her arms around him with enough force to knock him down if he was off balance at all. "Oh, Horrible-san, I'm so glad you're alright! Are you going home soon? Did you get to do anything villainous before you do?"

Billy was mentally compiling a List of Things To Do When He Got Home (it was a very important list, which is why it mentally capitalized, and involved such things like "find something decent to eat" and "change out of these clothes he'd been in for the past few days"), when a call of "Horrible-san!" broke through his thoughts. Only one person called him that.

"Flonne!" he said, turning with a wide grin -- and then a hundred-something pounds of fallen angel promptly tackle-hugged him straight to the ground. His head smacked against the deck of the ship and the wind was knocked out of him and there might be bruises later but that didn't matter right now because dude, it was Flonne who he hadn't seen in forever and she was okay.

"Well, I guess you're doing pretty alright yourself," Billy croaked out, pulling himself up to a somewhat upright sitting position. "I helped ruin a giant corporation forever and I hijacked their technology for my own purposes, I think that counts as a pretty villainous act." When put it like that, it sounded ( ... )

"I am!" she chirped in reply. Oh, good, he was okay, and wow did he sound like he'd been busy. It was probably a good idea to get off him now.

She scooted over and sat next to him, listening intently to his list of evil deeds. "Wow," she breathed, "you are a good villain!" She hadn't quite put together that the aforementioned technology was the DRT, but hey, that would come later. In the meantime, he'd asked her a question. "Oh, I was up here with Laharl-san and Etna-san blowing up ships and planes!" Because to Flonne, that was a completely normal answer. She pointed to a smoldering wreck of a battleship that was somehow still afloat. "That was one of mine," she said with just a bit of pride. She'd missed using her combat magic, and that had been a nice change ( ... )

Evangeline was a little late for the goodbyes. She had something to take care of, she was not going to be separated by someone so... skilled without one last bit of fun. She wandered in with a smile on her face, and a doll floating around behind her.

She refused to get emotional. People died around her all the time. They don't matter, people come and go. They are taken from you and if you fight hard enough you get them back sometimes. This lot was stubborn, they would do well to help. She would work to free herself of that school, then find the few people she wanted to see again. Find a world that she could be free on, no heroes chasing her down to prove themselves.

What a boring time right now was.

Fletcher saw Evangeline come in and waved to her from where he was sitting. It had been a while since the two of them had talked, and he wasn't sure if he was on good terms with her or not, really. He was going to miss her, though... and he was past the point where he was too scared to act. So he stood up and walked toward her.

"Oh, Fletcher, how nice to see you," her tone seemed like there was a hint that that might be true. "Won't your brother get mad and do something especially stupid if you talk to someone like little fragile me?"

Fletcher fidgeted where he stood, and he looked down. He shrugged. "I... I guess he might get angry..." But he'd just spent the last day engaged in battle against armed soldiers trying to shoot him. He could handle an angry Russel. "But I wanted to, um... to say goodbye."

And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend

J shook his head and managed a grin. Of all the songs to settle in his head right now, why that one? True, he'd never been too good with goodbyes...but still. That song. Right now. Timing was everything.

He kept that grin in place. Sure, he was glad to be going home, but up until the second he left he was going to need that placeholder.

Bobby had seen a lot over the course of the last few days. He had once again seen how people bonded together over a common cause. It made him happy to see that they had triumphed...that they were all free ( ... )

Well that was a tune he was glad to hear. "Hey," the grin got a bit more genuine as Bobby approached. "Took the words right outta my mouth." J hadn't known Bobby for long, but it was more than long enough to get a good measure of the teen; he had heart and courage in spades, and J knew he'd miss the guy.

Of course, none of that came out. Instead he fell back on the question he'd been asking everyone. "You holdin' up alright?"

"I think so," Bobby said. "I know I'll miss everyone...but it's hard not to be happy after all we accomplished the last few days. How about you?" Maybe it had something to do with being a Traveler. Bobby was just used to goodbyes. It was hard for him to accept he would never see these people again. Surely somewhere out there in Halla there was a way.

He still hadn't made up his mind if he wanted to risk rejoining with Solara to find out.

"I have something for you. I figure if you ever start thinking all this was just some crazy dream." Bobby pulled out one of the jumpdrives and handed it to J, "It's the journal I've kept, not the one on the network...this was a bit more personal." He smiled slightly, "Hopefully the jumpdrive will work in your world, wherever you're going." Bobby hadn't really thought about it NOT being able to work somewhere. Hopefully it would.

Kang really was going to miss the friends he'd made in the past four months. After finding and exchanging goodbyes with Harry and Fletcher, he scanned the room, searching for any of the others he needed to speak to and readjusting the bag on his shoulder. His height gave him an advantage in more ways than one; he could easily see over most everybody's heads, and it made him more easy to notice as well.

Damn right it made Kang more noticeable. He was like a beacon. A veritable lightning rod of awesome. And if Riza even thought about going through that portal without saying goodbye to him, she knew he would hunt her down and beat her up for it.

All right, so he might not actually have done any of those things, but hell, would you want to risk it?

"How you holding up, commander?" she asked as she approached, giving him the title purely as a joke.

"You know I'm retired, Riza. If you're going to use a title, use the right one," Kang smiled down at Riza. "I'm going home, back to my nation and my family. But... I don't want this to be the last time I see some of the people here."

Placing a hand on her shoulder, he gave it a gentle squeeze, "I'm going to miss you."

"Yeah, yeah, fill me in on the name change later," she told him dismissively and laughed. But she got serious pretty quick. "I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do, honestly. But I wasn't going anywhere without saying goodbye to you." Among... others.

She rolled her shoulder back after the squeeze and grinned at him. "Wherever I go, it's not gonna be the same without you."

Kida looked thoughtfully at the huge machine. Though she had assumed she had travelled here by foot, she now knew the truth. Something had transitioned perfectly from one world to another. And now, it was time to return home. And thankfully, no time would have passed. Kida smiled a little at the thought that her people would be as safe as when she left them. Milo wouldn't have had time to worry.

How she missed Milo.

But even then, she felt the remorse of having to leave her friends. Giselle and Miwako... MacGyver. Even Roy, as much of a womanizer as he was.

And then there was Larsa. How she longed to show him her home. It was astounding she had grown to trust the youth so much. But even then she knew he had his own duties.

With a somber expression she began to seek out the young emperor one last time.

Likewise, Larsa had been looking for Kida. Not much needed to be said between them, for as easily as the answer had come to him, he knew it would have been the same for her. They didn't have much of a choice in the matter ( ... )

Kida returned the embrace tightly, and didn't even try to hold back the tear. "I would expect no less from you," she smiled sadly. "You are the first I told my true history to, and only one of two. I know I could trust my people to you if the need ever arose." Larsa had become her family, and someone she respected highly for his sense of duty to his people. His altruism was something she truly admired ( ... )

Larsa followed Kida willingly, knowing that whatever she was going to tell him or show him was important. He trusted her implicitly, probably more than he trusted anyone. There was just something they shared, and it probably had to do with the fact that they were both rulers ( ... )
