It felt like they'd been digging for forever... Minako could hardly stay upright and she was convinced that she was running solely off of adrenaline. It was a productive little line of work they'd made... and the fact that they could hear the others on the other side of the wall of rubble definitely helped.

It wasn't just them anymore... People had managed to find them... to help them. It was guaranteed to go quicker this way, she knew it. All this gave her hope, and a slight spring in her step... as much as an ill, crab bitten woman could have, that is. "It feels like we're finally getting somewhere," she whispered anxiously... More to herself than to anyone else.

Thomas breath was heavy and he looked extremely worn around the edges but, much like Minako, he was pushing himself to any limit he could to get the hell out of here.

It was always encouraging to know they were THIS close to escape though...that people on the other side were there to pull them out and hopefully snag someone to help out with the bites. He felt like he was going to pass out or throw up...not sure which one, but he held it back and just pushed on. He didn't say a word...he was past words now.

Harry was looking pretty worn himself. When they'd first made contact with the people trapped behind the rubble, he'd started using Earth magic to speed the process, helping to shift the rock between them and to stabilize the tunnel around them. Unfortunately while he wasn't terrible at Earth magic, it also wasn't his strong suit, and there had only been so much he could do before it had threatened to make him collapse ( ... )

Riza was right there with Harry. She hadn't overworked herself like this since the war and it wasn't even that bad comparatively considering how much aid they had in the endeavor. Besides, after having her own bite cured a few weeks ago she knew how bad the others must be feeling. If only they could get them out and to one of the Healers. Of course, with as many people down there she wasn't sure if that would over exhaust the Healers or not.

One thing at a time, the first priority is getting the hell out of here she thought as she moved rocks aside.

As the rescuers and missing people dug through the rock, a rumble issued through the ground, coming from the west. At first it seemed distant, but it quickly grew louder, and stronger. The whole tunnel began to shake, knocking dust and rocks into the air.

This wasn't just a monster that happened to be passing by and crossing paths at the wrong time. This was something extremely large, moving towards them very fast, and with deadly intent.

[OOC: This will be one of two posts by Big Mommy; the second will be posted in a separate subthread. This subthread will be for reactions to her approach and getting the missing characters out of the crater.]

Being affiliated with the earth had its perks. Toph was in the middle of moving a particularly large rock when she felt it. The blind bender froze, rock hovering the air and she immediately dropped it and put her hand to the ground, spreading out her senses.

It wasn't good.

"Something's coming!"

Harry had found in his life, that no matter how dark a tunnel was, there was always a bit of light at the end. Of course, in Harry's case, that light was usually an oncoming train.

Really, he wasn't even surprised when he heard the rumbling. In fact, his immediate reaction could almost be described as resignation. Then came the fear, which in a normal person probably would have come first. Harry felt a cold desperation wash down his spine, driving away his pain and exhaustion. They had to get everyone out, nowDrawing on his last bits of magical reserves, Harry said, "Hey Toph, remember our magic carpet ride in the subway? I need you to do that again! Anyone strong enough needs to be ready to grab one person on the other side and run like a giant monsters about to get you! Anyone else, get out of here now ( ... )

Celes' heart rate was already going a mile a minute but when she heard that rumbling sound, it nearly exploded. Her reactionw as immediate. The ex-general pushed and shoved her way over to Harry, a fire in her eyes such as never before. She arrived just in time to hear him mention the magic carpet ride and knew her spell choice. Stepping out of the way of the main rescue, she began to call on her magic as well, knowing this was going to take everything she had left.

"One magic carpet ride, coming right up," she muttered so Harry and Toph could hear.

Riza, with Thomas in tow, stumbled off the earthen sled. The rumbling was like a miniature earthquake by now. Riza readjusted her grip on Thomas, he was out cold and breathing heavily but he was alive for the most part.

With no warning at all the earth erupted and rocks flew everywhere. Riza tried to shield herself and Thomas as best she could but some of the smaller rocks hit anyways, causing Riza to fall forward and Thomas to fall out of her grip. She turned, eyes widening as she saw the monster rear up from a brand new crater, "Oh God," she choked. It didn't help when the monster locked eyes with them...Riza' heart caught in her throat and she couldn't breath or move for a moment...it was like being caught in the gaze of death.

Riza snapped out of it when the monster roared. She swallowed everything and scrambled to move, slipping on the dirt and cutting her hands on some of the jagged rocks. She looked back over to Thomas and grabbed him, frantically looking for Harry and the others.

For a moment, his squealing stops about the moment the rocks fall. Abruptly, Jeff goes into action, whirling around and throwing his jacket open and pulling a cord.

About five bottle rockets fly out from the young scientist's jacket, impacting with some of the larger rocks that threaten to rain down on them. The stones split off into smaller ones, sprinkling off into the sides of the tunnel.

But he does freeze at the sight of the behemoth staring them down.

In a way, it's like looking back into the swirling madness known simply at Giygas. It's not quite as terrifying, but Jeff can't move immediately. This is one of the monsters that terrorizes them so badly.

And at the moment, he is wordless.

Harry flew off the sled gracelessly, barely able to stand. He'd used too much magic too fast, and all he really wanted to do was curl up and sleep for a year.

It seemed life, as usual, had other plans. Other horrible plans.

Harry had never seen the monster up close when it was alive, and as he gazed upon it now he really wished he could have kept that streak going. The thing radiated power, its smell filling the air, chocking him. It smelled a bit like fish a small hysterical part of his brain noted. The rest of his mind had just been reverted back a couple million years and down several rungs of the food chain. He would later imagine this is what the first mammels felt, staring up at T-Rex. Right now his thought process was a little less eloquent.

'ShitshitshitshitshitshitSHIT!'

He didn't know when he moved, when he imposed himself between the monster and his fiancee and unconscious brother. He sure as hell didn't know what he was thinking. What could he do against THAT? Still, he had to do what he could ( ... )

Most of the crabs were taken care of by this point and while there were quite a few minor injuries the only bites that Riza was aware of were from those they had rescued in the tunnel. Riza had left Harry with Thomas after Toph had come to find them. She trusted Toph but mostly it was the fact that the majority of the crabs were taken care of or had fled ( ... )

Despite the fact that the monster was gone and the crabs she'd left had mostly been beaten back, Sora's heart was still pounding somewhere up in his throat. He'd fought huge things before. The Groundshaker in the Pride Lands...even Xemnas's dragon ship had been massive. But they were all dwarfed by that thing, that weird monster that was neither Heartless or Nobody (what was it?) And in the face of something that immense, there really was nothing you could do but feel powerless...and all the fear that came with it ( ... )

Aerith had been waiting at the top of the crater for a while now, waiting in case people needed healing. She'd taken a few minutes to eat - what good was a healer who was starving herself? - and in that small time, everything had happened. By the time she had returned, a large group of people had gathered and even an idiot could tell a lot of them were injured.

Her eye caught Sora and she quickly made her way over.

"Sora! How badly hurt is everyone?" she called out, hurrying forward, worry etched into the healer's face.

"That's a difficult question, Sora...and while I don't want to speak for any of the victims, I would recommend treating the younger ones first," Riza had to put her personal preferences aside. Thomas would be healed eventually but she knew Harry, too, would agree that the kids needed to be treated first. "The youngest ones are going to probably have the most difficult time recovering from the bites...given their size...it only makes sense. When we pulled them out I saw one teenage girl and a boy in green...we need to find them."

Riza looked up when a woman approached, "We have some minor injuries but the people we need to focus on now is the people who were bitten." She gave the woman a look, she wasn't sure if this woman was some sort of medic or if she had a power similar to Sora's ability to heal. She hoped it was the later, they had 8 victims by Riza's count.
