As the rescuers and missing people dug through the rock, a rumble issued through the ground, coming from the west. At first it seemed distant, but it quickly grew louder, and stronger. The whole tunnel began to shake, knocking dust and rocks into the air.

This wasn't just a monster that happened to be passing by and crossing paths at the wrong time. This was something extremely large, moving towards them very fast, and with deadly intent.

[OOC: This will be one of two posts by Big Mommy; the second will be posted in a separate subthread. This subthread will be for reactions to her approach and getting the missing characters out of the crater.]

Being affiliated with the earth had its perks. Toph was in the middle of moving a particularly large rock when she felt it. The blind bender froze, rock hovering the air and she immediately dropped it and put her hand to the ground, spreading out her senses.

It wasn't good.

"Something's coming!"

Harry had found in his life, that no matter how dark a tunnel was, there was always a bit of light at the end. Of course, in Harry's case, that light was usually an oncoming train.

Really, he wasn't even surprised when he heard the rumbling. In fact, his immediate reaction could almost be described as resignation. Then came the fear, which in a normal person probably would have come first. Harry felt a cold desperation wash down his spine, driving away his pain and exhaustion. They had to get everyone out, nowDrawing on his last bits of magical reserves, Harry said, "Hey Toph, remember our magic carpet ride in the subway? I need you to do that again! Anyone strong enough needs to be ready to grab one person on the other side and run like a giant monsters about to get you! Anyone else, get out of here now

Celes' heart rate was already going a mile a minute but when she heard that rumbling sound, it nearly exploded. Her reactionw as immediate. The ex-general pushed and shoved her way over to Harry, a fire in her eyes such as never before. She arrived just in time to hear him mention the magic carpet ride and knew her spell choice. Stepping out of the way of the main rescue, she began to call on her magic as well, knowing this was going to take everything she had left.

"One magic carpet ride, coming right up," she muttered so Harry and Toph could hear.

Thomas felt the rumbling and at first thought it was just that blind girl moving more earth...but then he remembered she wasn't strong enough to be shaking the entire tunnel like that. He looked up at the ceiling and starting muttering curse words and possibly praying...he was that desperate anyway.

Thomas scrambled forward and quickly fell to his knees, goddammit he couldn't even STAND anymore. They were so fucked.

Once the rumble came through, Jeff felt his stomach twist terribly. Oh dear. Oh dear.

The boy mumbles to himself, "Fuzzy pickles indeed."

Finally, he breaks through to the other side of the wall, throwing the hand-made drill away to the side. It's not as important now. Not as important as helping others.

"Hurry now! Something is coming! If anyone can walk or crawl through, we need to make haste!"

Toph felt the thrum of the earth suddenly increase beneath her feet...it was a pleasant tingling that only maximized the feeling of the rumbling and her ability to make out the shape. Harry must have done something to the ground and Toph needed to work fast.

"Alright! Everyone on the other side of the wall move to the side," she shouted, digging her feet into the ground. Toph then ducked her head a bit and ran full out towards the wall, pulling her hands back and then slamming them into the wall. Harry's spell had helped her and she was able to slam a big ole hole into the wall, the earth blasting out like it had been hit by dynamite or a cannon. Toph shook out her hand and grinned, "Not bad at all."

Still, there was more work to be done, Toph got to work immediately, picturing the 'carpet' in her mind and figuring out how big it needed to be, "Everyone pack in close!"

Maka jumped back as Toph worked, pulling Soul back as well. The rumbling was growing worse with each passing second, and the souls around her were panicking. It felt like it was too much, the fear pushing against her, forcing her a place she didn't want to go.

Somehow, she ended up back towards Toph. Soul was right next to her, and for now she credited her moving to him. They needed to get out before the fear took over...

Renji looked up when the tunnel started shaking and tensed when Toph shouted that something was coming. It didn't take a genius to figure out who. Renji pulled at the rocks faster but stepped back at Toph's command, she'd proven she was good with rocks so he knew she was about to do something about the rest.

As soon as it was clear Renji swept through the hole and scooped up Minako in his arms, bridal style, she was so light now...lighter than he remembered. "Come on," he said, having a mini flash back to the time they were in the hotel and it was collapsing. He shouted over to Michiru, knowing Minako would be worried about the pigtailed one, "Get Usagi out of here! I'll take care of Minako!"

Minako looked as though she were ready to collapse. She wavered a bit in place, holding onto the wall for support. She watched as the managed to break through not too far down. She stumbled back as the girl called out for everyone to move and found herself pressed against the wall.

Her breathing quickened as she made sure the others were pressed against the wall too. The monster was on the way.... Or something... She choked out a sob and clenched her eyes together. Why couldn't this be over with yet.

Her eyes widened as Renji rushed in and picked her up. But she was too weak to protest, and she wasn't sure she wanted to. She clung to him and buried her face in his shoulder. "Renji," she whispered.

Link had gotten out of the way as fas as he could when the girl said to, and when it was clear he rushed to the hole and tried to climb out.

He yelped as he lost his footing and reached out to grab the nearset person.

Sora had arrived at the crater that morning, certain that a cure spell or two (or maybe more) would be needed before this whole affair was done. And he thought that he'd had it bad when he disappeared...who could have possibly trapped the missing people underground like this? And why? Who knew what they'd gone through away from the rest of the city...

He was in the middle of helping move all of the shifted rocks when the rumbling started. And that, he could recognize anywhere. "Let's get GOING!"

Luckily, it looked like several of the others were already on the task. A hole was blasted in the rock pile so that everyone behind it could crawl out, and Toph and Harry got their magic working to speed them away from the fast-approaching rumbling.

He reached out when he saw Link's hand, grabbed it, and pulled him out of the tunnel and onto more solid ground. He had about a second to realize that Link looked absolutely miserable...days without food, water or rest...before he helped him the rest of the way down the rocks. They had to get

Riza felt the earth begin to shake and her eyes widened as she looked over to Harry. It was written quite clearly on her face: 'Oh no.'

Things started to pick up. Toph practically blasted a hole in the wall and Harry started setting up the 'magic carpet' plan again. Riza moved her own attention to the people on the other side. She noticed they were barely able to move now, having expended all their energy on digging. "Get going!" Riza shouted as those who were trapped were fetched by those who could manage it. Riza moved to grab Thomas, her future brother-in-law looked like death warmed over...which was saying something for the typically fashionable looking man.

It was getting closer.

Soul pulled his partner over to Toph, recognizing the pressure she was feeling and beginning to experience it himself. They needed to prevent the fear from overpowering them, couldn't succumb to the insanity...

All at once, he found himself in a familiar room. Black doors behind him, a chair before him, candles all around, and a piano waiting to be played. Black wall with red curtains surrounded him, bad jazz played, the red demon snapping along, missing the beat entirely. Soul himself was wearing not his usual attire, but a black pinstriped suit. The demon watched him closely, that grin on his face.

Soul glared at him and turned his back. He couldn't let them fall into insanity, he couldn't.

"You can't resist forever," the demon said, almost purring in satisfaction.

"I can try," he replied coldly.

Haruka was pretty impressed by the way the little one busted the rock down like that. However, now was not the time to dwell on it so instead Haruka turned to Michiru, she knew her lover was in no shape to be running out of here, especially with the Princess in tow. Haruka didn't know what this 'magic carpet' the tall man was planning but it sounded like it was there only option.

"Take care of her," Haruka told Renji, she didn't know either of them but for now she'd have to trust Renji to take care of the other Sailor Venus. There was no time for arguing given how badly the earth was shaking around them.

Kaylee was frightened. There was no other way to describe the emotion. It was hard to keep moving, even as the small girl told everyone to get closer. Link was nearby with Sora, and she needed to make sure he was alright. How was she supposed to do that when she was shaking so badly?

Of course this wouldn't have been so easy? Why had she come?

Link's face, Thomas, Minako, all the others told her why. She knew she had needed to come, needed to be here to help. There would be no forgiving herself if she hadn't been here to help.

But gorram it, somehow she was still panicking, even as she moved to help Sora and Link get back towards the others. Had to be brave, just right now...
