Harry was looking pretty worn himself. When they'd first made contact with the people trapped behind the rubble, he'd started using Earth magic to speed the process, helping to shift the rock between them and to stabilize the tunnel around them. Unfortunately while he wasn't terrible at Earth magic, it also wasn't his strong suit, and there had only been so much he could do before it had threatened to make him collapse.

Now he was tearing away at the rock with his hands, passing them to the people behind him or just moving it to the side. He'd refused to take anything more than short breaks from shifting through the rubble. He couldn't give up now, not when they were so close to getting everyone out. Not when he was so close to getting Thomas back.

Things had fallen silent on both sides of the rubble, and suddenly it seemed almost deafening to the wizard. The anxiety of not knowing what state everyone was in ate at him, and so Harry decided to cover things the way he always did.

"Hey Thomas, you still there, or are you taking a nap and letting the kids do all the work?"

Riza was right there with Harry. She hadn't overworked herself like this since the war and it wasn't even that bad comparatively considering how much aid they had in the endeavor. Besides, after having her own bite cured a few weeks ago she knew how bad the others must be feeling. If only they could get them out and to one of the Healers. Of course, with as many people down there she wasn't sure if that would over exhaust the Healers or not.

One thing at a time, the first priority is getting the hell out of here she thought as she moved rocks aside.

Thomas let out a half-crazed sounding laugh, "Fuck you Harry," was all he managed as he tossed more rocks aside. He was going to punch the bastard he swore to god...once he got out of here, threw up, and took a nap.

Just how many fucking rocks were there?

Michiru no longer had the strength to remain henshinned, and had powered down to conserve what energy she had left. She was digging at the rocks a little ways down from the others, tossing aside the chunks she pulled out haphazardly.

"Minako-chan," she called through the rubble. "Stay strong... we're getting closer."

She'd been shouting encouraging remarks ever since they first made contact. It was the least she could do as they scrambled to dig their friends out.

They had been digging, shifting, moving rocks and dirt and concrete blocks for what felt like an eternity. Daniel had stopped even trying to wipe the dust off of his face; he was too focused on the digging, too focused on NOT focusing on how tired he was after a sleepless night. The voices on the other side of the wall had mostly stopped, undoubtedly due to fatigue, if what they had managed to communicate through the barrier earlier was any indication. No time to stop; no time to rest. Had to keep digging.

He still couldn't believe that all of the people who had mysteriously disappeared three days ago - or had the days changed and it was the fourth now? - were HERE, buried behind a collapsed subway wall. What were the odds? Thank goodness so many people had come, after all; they needed every hand they could get. And Link was in there...he had been right about the boy being one of the ones missing. The knowledge that that little boy, his student and one of the youngest unfortunate residents of this horrible city, was trapped and injured in there drove him onwards. He had to help them.

The archeologist had made his way up near the front of the line that was moving the wreckage, working near Harry and Riza. Thomas was in there, too. He didn't know Thomas as well as Link, but the more people he knew, the more drive he had to fight the weariness. Harry - he'd worked with him a little bit earlier, occasionally using his own knowledge of holes to check the structure of the tunnel when Harry had been doing...something, to help keep it stable. Harry was yelling for Thomas. Hopefully Thomas or someone else would answer, give them an idea how close they really were.

There! Barely audible, but there: Thomas made a response. Daniel felt new energy surge through him. "We're almost through, guys!" he yelled, hoping enough people could hear his hoarse voice. "It's not far now! They're right there!" That would have to be enough. No more words for now - only digging.

Harry grinned savagely as he dug, "Why not, isn't that what you tell all your employee's you do in your free time? Seriously, we should talk about this creepy fixation you have on me!"

He had to keep him talking. The more he talked, the less he focused on his Hunger.

Renji had worked up quite a sweat by this point, his face set with determination he helped dig out the others, sometimes towards the front with the actual wall and occasionally switching out with others and helping pass rocks down the line and out of the way. He felt really relieved to know Minako was just on the other side but he was very worried about her condition. He remembered the last crab bite she'd suffered...and thought about what happened when she'd last gone without her medicine.

A combination of the two was probably the worst for her. He dropped one of the rocks and went back to work...he had to get her out and get her the medicine she needed.

Maka was near Renji, doing what little she could to move any of the smaller rocks. She wasn't the strongest here, by far, and the wall of rocks between them was too thin at this point to risk slicing through any with Soul. Bare hands would have to work.

Who knew? Maybe Black Star would finally stop calling her wimpy.

Doubt it.

Trying to keep positive thoughts in her head was taxing. She could feel the souls on the other side, how weak they were, and it made her sad, made her ache for them. This required her to be stronger, to get to them faster, because there was only so much more she could take before she would break...

Haruka, much like her partner, had also had to drop the henshin. At least she had been wearing appropriate work clothes, her typical outfit for running. She wished she'd been able to hold it long enough to blast the wall with a 'world shaking' but she knew this tunnel was probably not the stablest out there and it would be dangerous.

It was hard work but she managed to do her best and helped Michiru move rocks. She couldn't help but smirk slightly at the man name Thomas' comment on the other side, "Now, now, I really don't think that's appropriate talk for a place like this." She glanced over at the man who had responded, she was struck by the fact she barely knew any of these people but continued anyway, they had a common goal after all.

Celes was doing her best to help move things around, shifting the rocks as much as she could and keeping an eye on the things around them. She didn't want anything caving in on them, nor did she want anyone to get hurt during all of this. She wasn't using her magic unless absolutely necessary.

The ex-general was near Harry and Riza, helping them out as best she could. She wouldn't fail these people. It wasn't an option no matter how tired she was.

Toph ran down the tunnel, she'd only just now heard about what was going on and as soon as she had she had made her way towards the crater in Union Square Park. There were quite a lot of people here but Toph pushed passed them, "Scuse me! Earthbender comin' through!"

Finally, she got passed all the people passing back rocks and made her way towards the front, where she could feel Harry amongst the others there, "HEY! HARRY!" She rushed forward and without another word stomped her feet against the ground and made a push/pull motion with her hands, the earth started to shift and move and a good portion of the rocks fell away and were moved aside. Toph grinned, "I heard you needed a shovel."

She focused her attention on the people on the other side, she could feel the familiar forms of Thomas, Link, and a girl she'd met once but vaguely remembered...Minako? "ALRIGHT," she shouted, cracking her knuckles, "it's time to show you guys how to really dig." Thus, Toph got to work.

Yachiru had started digging in earnest as well, having overheard that Minako might be on the other side. In the darkness it was unlikely most people noticed the large rocks floating away from the pile of rubble, but she worked tirelessly, even when her arms started to ache and she'd become covered in grime. She was not going to let Minako down now.

"Hah! Please," Thomas quipped, Harry's words spurning him on. He picked up the pace, tossing rocks aside and not even caring anymore where they landed. His wound pulsed and he felt so out of it...now he was just babbling. "They all think you're just a pity fuck anyways. And you have that fiance now...how am I ever going to break it to the public that you're not really gay."

Riza blinked, looking from Harry and back towards the wall before sighing, "You two..." She shook her head, although their argument was a little odd and she felt she was missing a key part she knew that this was their way of dealing with things. They really were brothers it seemed.

The woman was surprised by the shouts and turned to see the young blind girl approaching them. It was a little bit of a surprise to see the fresh face and Riza realized how badly everyone else must look. Still, Toph didn't seem to mind and excitedly got to work moving rocks with far more ease than most of them. The earthbender would come in a lot of handy down here.

Harry snorted. "I'm the pity fuck? Way I recall it, they described me as the mystery man. Probably wonder how I tolerate their tyrant of a boss!"

He grabbed another rock in his filty scratched up hands and tossed it aside. "Clearly Riza's just so amazing she turned me straight. Then again, if I had been gay, dating you probably would have done that anyway!" That was it, they still had a ways to go, but they were getting closer by the second, he just had to hold on.

Suddenly a new voice echoed through the tunnel, and Harry gave a real smile for the first time all day. Looking over his shoulder he said, "Hey Fearless Leader, what took you so long? Getting your nails done? Time to show the grownups how to dig a hole."

Daniel scrambled out of the way as soon as he saw Toph going to work, not wanting to get in her way. He stared in amazement as the rocks and debris started shifting as if they had a life of their own. Thankful for the chance for a break, he slumped against the wall, bone-weary. Maybe he SHOULD have taken some more of those breaks people offered...

"Toph!" he yelled, his laugh breaking up a little as he coughed dust. "You sure picked a perfect time to show me these 'earthbending' powers you keep telling me about! Nice dramatic entrance!"
