What a handsome heron! We have one type of heron that's common here (the great blue heron) and it's always a thrill to see it.

This is a grey heron - they are our only breeding heron species and are not exactly common but not classed as 'rare' either.

It is unusual enough to see one in a town or village that, whilst I was taking a photo of this one, a car stopped and the driver got out to look at it.

I was thinking of you when I posted the name of the shaggy daffodils - it was an answer to a question from you in that earlier post that I had noted the name!

Oh yes, I meant to make mention of that but hit enter and then the day zipped on...

It's such an interesting daff, and a wonderful name for it.

What a handsome guy! Can you imagine that they are getting decimated in our country? I have yet to see one, but they must have fished empty lots of garden ponds all around, hence the resentment against them!

I think the attraction here might be my neighbour's pond - but there are a lot of trees and bushes in her garden and I am not sure it has ever managed to land!

That heron is gorgeous, and I love the Rip Van Winkel narcissi.

I was really pleased with the heron picture. And those narcissi are my absolute favourites.
