You know, I've never really had a mother or a father. I mean surely I must have, at some point, but it's been so long now that I can't recall ( Read more... )

You want to know about my parents?

Of course! I've never had any of my own, so I'm very curious about it.

So, what's it like? You can tell me; it's okay!

My mom's uh...busy, a lot, and she doesn't like mud or nonsense.

My dad writes, he lets himself get really tired, and he's really not good at cooking like he thinks he is... but he's the bravest person I know.

Oh, but nonsense is wonderful! She should really give it a try!

Fathers sound like incredible things. Are they all brave, or tired, or not good at cooking?

...No.

This better not be about bringing our families here.

What's wrong? You don't like your family? Is having parents a bad thing after all?

My parents are dead, and the man who adopted me treated me like an object. I'll have nothing to do with them.

I'm awfully sorry. You should really find some new parents! Third time's a charm, right? I think that's how that goes...

It's a shame you have no family here, but family isn't just left up to genetics.

I don't remember my parents, either. I'm proud to be a father though.

Oh, that's true. My brother and I might be related but I'm not really sure. I can't remember.

You're a father? That's just wonderful! What's it like?

It's very rewarding.

I'd do anything for my daughter. She's my life.

Goodness, that sounds so wonderful! It must be very nice.

Do you think I could be someone's father?

Mothers and... fathers?

curiousher June 12 2010, 21:51:14 UTC
They're the people who made you, or the people who raised you. Something of that sort anyway. At least, that's what I've heard.

...Oh. Those are mothers and fathers...

Do you have a mother and father? It's fine if you don't too. I never had any.

I don't really think my family is a very good example. Actually, I'm not entirely sure it qualifies as a "family" either, but I guess it's close enough.

curiousher June 12 2010, 21:53:45 UTC
Why not? What's your family like?

utopiansister June 12 2010, 22:06:43 UTC
It's kind of complicated. My Father isn't my real father, but he acts more like a father than my Mother acted like a mother.

... Does that make sense?

I think so? So your mother wasn't a mother, and your not!Father was a father? Goodness, this family business can be dreadfully confusing to figure out!
