Jaejoong was busy ordering people around to ready everything for the party before Su comes home. It was already 3:15pm. Junsu goes out of his shift at 3:00pm. He should be on his way now so Jae became all the more frantic.

“Oh god, oh god, oh god. The food might not be enough, the decorations aren’t completed yet, the living room is a mess, the sound system still hasn’t plugged everything that needs to be plugged in and heaven be merciful, I haven’t fixed my hair yet!!!

Jaejoong looked like he was carving a path on their carpet with the way he was pacing back and forth while shouting directions at their neighbors who were kind enough to help. None of them were complaining though, they knew Jaejoong enough already to not mind the bossiness. They understood that all he wanted was the best birthday for his roommate. The two of them were known to be almost as brothers and everybody in the complex loved them both. Jaejoong knew every single one of their neighbors and has, one way or another, conversed with them. Junsu, well, we really don’t need to expound on the extent of his so-called charisma now do we? Junsu is brightens up everyone’s day, no matter what the situation is. Seriously, Yoochun thought that he never had a more exciting and amusing life before he transferred to this apartment complex.

Taking pity on the poor living room floor, Yoochun sauntered over to Changmin who was diligently arranging the dining area, piling up the plates and stuff. Jaejoong thought it was sweet that Changmin would so whole-heartedly offer his help, Yoochun thought his brother was just setting up a master plan on how to devour majority of the food without the cook noticing.

He tapped his brother’s shoulder as he was wiping the utensils on the table.

“I’m busy.” Changmin deadpanned.

“Too busy even for your dream boy?” Yoochun snickered when Changmin’s shoulders went stiff and his hands halted their wiping activity.

“Thought as much.” Yoochun leaned in to whisper to the sitting man’s ear. “Go to Jae and distract him from ruining the floor. I don’t think the tiles can handle much more of his pacing.” Changmin was still quiet but his eyes dilated, like he was being asked to go on a diet.

“Aish! I’m not asking you to confess to him idiot. Talk to him or ask him to cook or something. Cooking always seems to take his mind away whatever he’s thinking of.” Yoochun still felt his brother hesitating. Ever since the guy admitted to himself that he has somewhat taken a liking to their neighbor, he always felt too nervous to start a conversation. He just lets Jae lead the talk, which wasn’t a problem since the cook was a blabbermouth.

Only one thing left to do…

Yoochun sighed dramatically. “Oh well, I guess when Jae DOES manage to wreck the floor then the party would be over since Jae is too polite to have anyone stay in a place with a ruined floor hence the food would all be wasted.” Changmin immediately sat straight and set down whatever he was holding and went to his crush.

Genius or not, Changmin was a fool when it came to food and, apparently, love. The thought made Yoochun smirk.

--

Jaejoong was about to shout something to Shiwon when he felt a hand grab his and lead him to the kitchen.

“Hyung, I’m hungry. Cook something for me?” Changmin said as they reached the kitchen.

“B-but… Minnie-ah…I still have to fix the apartment… Su might be home any minute.” Changmin smiled inwardly at the nickname. It developed some time ago, although Changmin was against it at first, saying that he was too manly to be called after a cartoon character. A girl one at that. But deep inside, he liked it. It was Jaejoong’s nickname for him and only him. How can he not like it?

Slightly shaking his head to get himself back to focus, he faced his hyung with the meanest pout he could muster. He stopped himself from smirking when he saw Jaejoong’s expression shift from worry to defeat. Hurrah for being cute!

“Please, Joongie-hyung?” He thought of the nickname for a while now, but never had a chance to use it since his mouth was automatic on calling the other ‘Jae-hyung’. No matter, it seemed to do the trick. Jaejoong freed himself from Min’s grasp, the latter trying very hard to stop himself from yanking the hand back just for the sake of holding it, and started viewing the contents of their refrigerator.

“Is omelet okay, Minnie-ah? I don’t think I have time for anything else.”

“Anything, as long you made it Joongie-hyung.” Jaejoong smiled but he didn’t know what he was smiling for; the nickname or Min, or maybe both.

Changmin sneakily glanced back to his brother and subtly raised a thumbs-up. Yoochun grinned and gave back same action.

--

Everybody was hiding. The lights were turned off. Their look-out announced that Junsu was about to enter the apartment. Quickly, everybody hid wherever they can fit themselves into (except under the food table, Changmin already claimed that particular territory, glaring at anyone who would even as much TRY to get under it) and Jaejoong turned off all the lights, surrounding their apartment with darkness. They heard the door open and some fumbling. When they heard a loud “HA!”, Jaejoong smiled and lightly tapped his foot on the floor to signal everyone to get ready.

The lights flickered on and…

Pop!

Pop!

“SURPRISE!!!”

“AH!!!” Junsu fell on his butt and Jaejoong wanted to laugh at his friend’s dumbfounded expression. He first stared at the people before shifting his gaze to their apartment. Then he squinted, as if focusing on a random object. Something akin to fear became evident on his face. Junsu’s eyes shifted around, looking like he was searching for something, stopping only at a spot behind him. That’s when Jae knew who he was looking for. Yoochun.

As much as he was enjoying the flabbergasted state of his best friend, there was a party he wanted to get into so he helped him up.
“You ok Su?” Jae asked, worried, although he knows quite well that his roommate has an inborn cushion. A simple fall won’t hurt him.

“Y-yeah.” Su said with a squeaky voice. He cleared his throat, “Yeah I’m okay thanks.”

“Sorry if we scared you Junsu.” Siwon, one of their close neighbors, said.

“Yeah. I always believed you were a scaredy-cat. Guess you proved me right.” Siwon’s boyfriend, Heechul, said with a taunting smirk. He always teased him, but no ill-feelings were present. All in good fun as one would say.

But that still couldn’t stop our dear Junsu from turning into a tomato.

“Yah! I’m not a scaredy-cat. Let’s see you not be surprised when you get a bunch of people shouting at you all at the same time as a welcome home.” Junsu pouted.

All laughed and Junsu laughed with them, sending the loved eukyangkyang resounding throughout the apartment.

--

Jaejoong watched in glee as Junsu made a fool out of himself during their Pin the tail on the Pony game. He openly laughed when he saw Changmin fill his mouth with food like he hasn’t eaten for years. Good thing he ordered a lot of finger food. He praised himself in expecting for the worst, since Kangin and Shindong appear to be in an eating contest with the object of his adoration. His eyes went back to his dongsaeng and he couldn’t help but smile again. He didn’t know if it was love, but it was definitely more than friendship. He finds himself thinking about their young neighbor more often than before. He almost laughed at himself when he felt disappointed when the younger man couldn’t come visit because of school work.

His musings were cut off short when something cold touched his cheek. Startled, he jerked his head to the direction where it came from to see what it was. It was Yoochun, offering him a glass of punch. Jae smiled his thanks and took the drink, taking a small sip from it.

A few moments of passed between them when Yoochun spoke.

“My brother is stupid.” Yoochun told Jae like it was the most normal thing to say about your younger brother.

“Excuse me?”

“Changmin is stupid.” He repeated. ”So you have to tell him how you feel instead of wooing him with food.” Yoochun turned to pointedly look at the gaping Jaejoong. “Actually, he doesn’t even know your wooing him. He keeps telling himself that you’re his hyung who loves to cook for him because your roommate doesn’t know how to appreciate it.” Yoochun said it with a sarcastic and mocking tone, but Jaejoong knew this was true, because that’s what he has been telling his dongsaeng.

“Has Junsu rubbed some of his perceptiveness on you? “ Jaejoong raised an eyebrow.

Yoochun just shrugged then smiled. “Maybe.”
Jaejoong just rolled his eyes at the faraway and mushy look on Yoochun’s face at the mere mention of Junsu’s name. Speaking of which, he was planning to do something for his bestfriend, and it was about time.

“Yoochun,” Jae waited until the plumber was facing him. “ask Junsu to dance.”

“Wha-“ Yoochun couldn’t finish his question since Jaejoong already left for the sound system.

--

Jaejoong picked the song and told the DJ to play it. As soon as the slow song made itself heard, Jae turned to look at Junsu, waiting for his reaction.

And there it was, his eyebrows furrowed, symbolizing his confusion. He looked at Yoochun and smiled when he was fidgeted then took a deep breath and started walking to his roommate. When he turned to look back to Junsu, the latter was already looking at him, eyes questioning. He just tilted his head to Yoochun’s direction. Junsu’s eyebrows furrowed more but looked at the way he pointed. Jaejoong almost laughed out loud when horror struck his dolphin-friend’s face and shook his head rapidly from side to side. Jaejoong just grinned widely and thrust a thumbs-up in the air.

While this was going on, Changmin was watching Jaejoong in the corner of his eye. He didn’t want to get noticed. He didn’t understand what exactly was going on but he assumed it had something to do with his older brother and Junsu. Why? Because he saw his brother making his way to the birthday boy and the latter starting to sweat profusely. Changmin himself wanted to ask Jaejoong to dance, but was stopped short when another man came close to Jaejoong.

Jaejoong eyes lit up and he and the stranger hugged. They seem to be close, and Changmin’s insides churned and twisted without his control. He stood rigid in his spot, not trusting himself to talk to anyone, lest he unleash his brewing feeling. He had no right, yes, but the creature called jealousy didn’t seem to believe that.

The guy did the same thumbs-up action Jae did earlier for Junsu, which would mean he knows Junsu too. But who is he? He leaned to whisper something to Jae’s ear and the black haired man laughed. Changmin winced. He made his way to his Joongie-hyung, trying very hard to compose himself to be civil enough to the stranger.

The YooSu couple were dancing now, and it would seem the stranger was about to ask Jaejoong to do the same thing. Min quickened his pace, not wanting to bear the sight of his crush in another man’s arms.
Jaejoong was laughing again because Yunho was telling him about one of his antics at work when a semi-breathless Changmin came up to him.

“Oh Minnie-ah! Meet Yunho. He’s Junsu’s co-barista and my ex-boyfriend.” Yunho held out a hand, all smiled and completely oblivious to the dark aura that’s starting to surround Changmin.

For the sake of not making a complete fool out himself, he shook the tall man’s hand, his hold a little bit too tight. Yunho noticed this and took note of how Changmin was shooting daggers at him and of how Jaejoong just stared in utter adoration for his dongsaeng.

“So this is the guy Su told me about.” Yunho thought then smiled.

“It’s nice to meet you.” Yunho said pleasantly.

“Likewise.” Min stated bluntly, then continued. “Ex-boyfriend huh?” He unconsciously put on the word ‘ex.’

“Yeah, I am.” Yunho answered confidently. “Do you have a problem with that?” Yunho almost laughed as he thought he saw imaginary steam going out of the young man’s ears.

YES!!! "Not really, no. Should I have a problem with it?" If you want a verbal warfare, I'll give you a verbal warfare. The younger laughed evilly in his head.

"You tell me." Yunho smirked. He liked this kid. He has some snark in him. Perfect for telling Jaejoong when he's going overboard with something.

Jaejoong looked back and forth to the two tall men. He didn't know why but he had a gut feeling something was going on.

"Uhm.. Yunho? Do you know Changmin by any chance?" Jaejoong finally said.

"Hmm? No Boo. Why would you suggest that?" Yunho smiled once again.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me!! Boo?!? You broke off already! Intimate nicknames aren't allowed! I swear I am going to beat the crap out of you when we're alone!" Changmin clenched his fists in an effort to not do any physical damage to the brown-haired man.

"It just seems you two know each other that's all..." Jae still didn't know why a weird atmosphere hung in the air.

"You must be imagining things, Joongie-hyung." Changmin replied back, wanting to get back at Yunho. But the insufferable man just beamed at him! What is he? Mentally retarded?!

If this was a cartoon, lightning would have been sparking from Changmin's and Yunho's eyes already.

The supposed to be lightning battle was lost to Jaejoong though, because he was staring at their doorstep, in almost the same manner Junsu; dumfounded, confused and anxious.

“It’s him. Shit…”

A.N.2/ Next chapter will be about YooSu again. It will show what happens after Hyukjae has arrived. :D
