Yoochun was in the mood to compose. He didn’t know why, but he suspected that a certain dolphin-slash-penguin like being had something to do with it. He just came home from the convenience store with Junsu. They had parted ways before the door to his apartment, both wanting to say something before parting but mouths stubbornly clamped shut. They settled for an awkward smile and a wave, tension there but left unsettled.

The sound of the door closing, whining from his doorway then springs squeaking and complained made Yoochun turn from his paperwork to see a body flopped on his bed.

“Hyuuuunnngggg~~~”

“Changmin! I just fixed the bed darn it!” Yoochun grumbled from his work table.

“Is the bed more important than your heartbroken dongsaeng? I’m hurt.” Min feigned hurt and pouted exaggeratingly.

“That’s not-! Wait. You’re heartbroken?”

“Well, not really. I just thought that that would get your attention.” Min smirked from his position on his brother’s bed.

“Why you little-“

“Correction, I’m taller than you hyung.” Min smirk grew more evil. Yoochun could almost see horns beginning to form on his brother’s head.

“Yah!” Yoochun lunged from his chair and sat on Min and began tickling him senseless.

“Ahhh!! Hyung! Stop! Stop! Okay! Okay! I surrender! Waaah!! STOOOP!!” Tears were beginning to form in Min’s eyes when the tickling subsided but Chun didn’t make a move to get out of his position.

“Now tell me why you’re pestering me before I torture you again.”

The pout returned and a look of resignation crossed Min’s face. “I want to see Jae-hyung again…”

Yoochun rolled his eyes. “Then go see him. It’s not like you’re not permitted to hack their refrigerator.”

He looked at his older brother like he was the dumbest person that ever graced the planet and mumbled. “I just came from there, remember?”

“Oh right. Then why do you want to see him again?”

Changmin laid his head back on the bed again and stared at the ceiling. Before, he would only be seeing a blank space of white with a light. But now, a face with a strong jaw line, plump lips, and gray orbs drew itself on the supposedly blank space. He sighed in resignation.

“That’s the thing. I don’t know…” Confusion was evident in Min’s eyes. Just then, Yoochun remembered what Junsu said about Jaejoong liking his brother. He smiled inwardly.

“You’re smart. Raid your brain for a reason.” Yoochun said as he stood up from his position.

“But-“

“Something along the lines of seeing Jaejoong as more than a personal cook.” Yoochun went back to his paperwork which consisted of music sheets and notes, leaving a more than ever confused Min to depart from his room and ponder on his brother’s words.

--

Junsu went home with a grin plastered on his face as if he won the lottery and got a promotion. Like Yoochun, he was giddy as heck, and he berated himself for it. I mean, look at the facts! One, he’s not sure if he’s gay (but his actions earlier certainly gave him hope); two, he just met him yesterday for Pete’s sake (but there’s such a thing as love at first sight); and three, he barely knows him! (that can be arranged, like earlier today).

Junsu wanted to shoot the voice in his head contradicting everything he can think of to NOT give him hope but that would mean killing himself since it IS his brain we’re talking about, so he settled on head-desking on the dining table instead.

Jaejoong, hearing a thump-thump sound from the other room, snapped out of his dazed reverie from spending most of the afternoon with Changmin and peeked in the dining room only to see the head desk action.

Jae elegantly crossed his arms and leaned on the door frame to look at Junsu quizzically. “What’s the matter with you?”

“I’m trying to kill myself. Isn’t it obvious?” Junsu proceeded on head-desking again and again.

“No it’s not, because the table would surely die first before your thick brain gets any real damage.” His ghei roomie leaned down on the table on his arms. “What’s wrong?”

The younger of the two stopped his phailed attempts on suicide and rested his chin on the table to face Jae. He sighed heavily and pouted. He doesn’t want to admit anything, admitting it means accepting it, and accepting it means… well, he doesn’t want to think about that.

“I’m not too sure. I’m in denial.” He muttered.

“Idiot. If you know you’re in denial then that’s like admitting to it already, so spill.”

Well that ruined his phailed plan of not admitting that he likes Yoochun.

Shit.

Hello, graveyard. I’m officially a member of your family now.

Jaejoong looked at the mortified and hesitant expression of his best friend and realized that he isn’t going to say anything any time soon and Jae was anything but patient.

“Kim Junsu!” He shouted.

“All right already!” He leaned back in his chair and took a deep, deep breath. “IthinkIlikeYoochun.”

“Junsu-“ Jae started menacingly.

Junsu gulped. “I-“ Breathe. “I think I… like Yoochun…”

“What’s wrong with that?” Came the blunt reply.

Junsu looked at his beloved roommate with wide eyes. Jae knew his history. He knew the pain and the shattering his heart undergone when… Junsu flinched. Did he really, honestly believe that it was easy for Su to like someone? Someone who he barely knew?

Sensing his best friend’s dilemma, Jae softly, gently whispered, “He’s not Hyukjae, Su. Give yourself a chance. Not everyone is like him.”

“I know. I KNOW. But… I’m scared hyung.” Junsu rested his forehead against the table and put his hands over his head as if to push the confusion out of his brain, “What if he’ll be the same? What if he’ll leave me once he’s lost interest already? What if-“

“Su stop it.” Jae cut him off then grasped his hand and stroked soothing circles on it with his thumb. Hyukjae was Junsu’s friend from, well, ever since they both could understand that a friend can be something or someone other than a stuff toy. They’ve been inseparable until high school. People were not surprised when they finally hit it off in their senior year. They lasted until college. But when it was almost their graduation, Hyukjae broke up with him.

~Flashback~

“I don’t love you anymore.” Hyukjae said.

Junsu wasn’t sure if he heard right. Junsu didn’t WANT what he thought he heard to be right. So he opted to feign innocence and a smile. “Pardon?”

“I’m breaking up with you.” Hyukjae said again. Guilt was lacing his handsome features. But somehow, Junsu knew that the love of his life wasn’t kidding around.
Oh how he wished he was.

“What? B-but.. why?” Junsu said as a helpless whimper. He didn’t want to sound weak. But when your heart is breaking into little tiny pieces, you wouldn’t be able to help it.

“I just said why. I don’t love you anymore. Not in that way… And I respect you enough to not pretend to love you. You deserve better than that.” Hyukjae said somewhat sympathetically.

“Is it because I’m always late in our dates? Is it because my brother is always picking on you? I told you he’s just kidding!” Junsu’s vision was clouding due to the tears that threatened to fall.

“No. No. Please don’t make this harder than it already is Su.”

“Tell me why! I’ll work harder! I’ll try harder! I will! Just please tell me what I did wrong…” Su begged. Hyukjae was looking down, biting his lip. The last time he looked like that was when he cancelled their house movie session telling he was sick, but Su soon discovered that his other friends was able to drag him into one of their gigs.

Junsu swallowed past the lump in his throat. “Is there someone else?” Junsu whispered.

Hyukjae shot his eyes up and opened his mouth as if to say something but then closed it. He just nodded.”God I am so sorry Su. I-“

“No. Stop.” Junsu breathed. He was the type to not want to be a burden to anybody, especially those who he loves. If they didn’t want him to be there, he’d gladly leave. No matter how much it hurt.

He looked at his now former lover straight in the eyes with a forced smile but with tears cascading freely down his cheeks.”I hope you’ll be happy with that person.” With that, he turned and ran, feeling every piece of his heart falling with each step.

~End Flashback~

Jae continued. “What if's won't get you anywhere. What happened then wasn’t your fault… Stop saying it is. You’ve got to move on. Please move on. I want you to be happy.”

Junsu looked up with those angelic eyes of his and smiled, kind and innocent. “Thanks hyung. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“You’ll get thin, because you can’t cook even if your life depended on it.” Jaejoong laughed as Su put on a full blown pout and raised hand to slap the heck out of him, making Jaejoong run away. Junsu chased him around the apartment, temporarily forgetting that he has heart problems to deal with.

--

Around three months passed since Junsu met Yoochun and both we’re still dancing around each other. The way they acted around each other (holding hands, leaning in a bit too close to whisper stuff in the other’s ear, the usual) screamed that they liked each other, if not love. Both of them just had selected perceptions or both had a serious case of cowardice. Jaejoong thought it was both. Junsu kept on insisting that Yoochun was just being friendly. Yeah, right. Since when did friends look at you like you’re the sunshine of their lives!

It was nearing Junsu’s birthday and Jaejoong was planning something devious in that sneaky mind of his. He loved his best friend. He wanted him to be happy.

So while his duckbutt of a friend was at work, he went to their resident plumber’s apartment. Changmin, of course, greeted him with open arms (without the hugging. Unfortunately for Jae, they haven’t reached there yet. He swears that the kid was too innocent; it almost was making him feel guilty that he’s secretly wooing him through food. Almost) and let him in.

Once inside and Yoochun in front of him, Jaejoong invited them to Su’s surprise birthday party the following week. They didn’t need to bring anything, just themselves. And they have to keep their mouths shut because Junsu doesn’t have any idea that he’s inviting people over. He’d kill him if he knew.

Yoochun laughed and agreed. No way was he missing his cute-voice’s birthday. Yes, his. Now that he’s admitted to himself that he likes him, he owns the darn guy. At least in his own little world. He just needs to work on telling that to the object of his affection.

Jaejoong bid farewell and went back home.

Now there was only one problem.

“What will I get him?”
