Regarding iharthdarth

This has probably been a long time coming so I figure that instead of letting people assume that I've been ignoring iharthdarth-related comments, I'll respond to them.
The rest here... )

Darlin', don't sweat it.

First of all, being a creator myself, I tend to keep track of copyrights, trademarks, parody, intellectual property and intended use. I'm not up on all the laws, but I'm pretty well versed. If I thought you were in anyway violating anything, then I wouldn't be here.

Second, no one can calm ownership of a "style" of drawing. It would be like having to go find the first manga artists and crediting him/her in ever book thereafter. Or comic book. I don't believe Renaissance painters gave each other credit, though styles were very similar during that time.

That's got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Frankly, I would take this as a sign that you're doing the right thing and are talented. Feathers don't get ruffled if a) people don't pay attention and, b) people don't like what you're doing.

Keep on doing what you do. Ignore the idiots. If they get too much, tell them to get a lawyer or shut the fuck up.

I wasn't implying that she'd done anything illegal! I never even asked her stop or change anything!

I'm very aware that legally, there isn't a problem. It was more a matter of principle than anything else! I happen to be close friends with the creator of ihd and the similarities were just too much for me to ignore. I've seen plenty of ihd-like comics since it was created, but none have been THIS similar - down to colour scheme/page layouts/font/etc. I'm sorry, but I couldn't let it go.

The ihd style is something the creator has used for years, for many different things - it wasn't developed specifically for that comic, but years and years before. I couldn't even rightly tell you where they originally found inspiration for the style - it was long before I ever met them ( ... )

Wow. Um, okay. Sorry. Nevermind then. I'll just ignore any future posts concerning anything personal.

Yep. Just keep doing what you're doing. Sure, the similarity caught my eye and had me wondering too, which is why I'm here today, but where the inspiration came from doesn't matter. Maybe you and the creator of iharthdarth was just inspired by the same source you got your inspiration from. It doesn't matter. I just want more. They're so CUTE! ♥

I see what you're saying here... and I'm glad you admit there are a lot of similarities. I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt about this stuff, and I enjoy the comic, but the second I saw it I immediately thought it was some kind of spinoff type thing from iharthdarth. It's not just the drawing style that is similar... the journal colors are exactly the same and the layouts are almost identical. I don't know if I can believe you just came up with all those things on your own, completely independent from iharthdarth. Something just doesn't fit.

:/ Not trying to be rude, just saying what I think.

I agree. How do you magically think up the same layout, scheme, style, etc as iharthdarth?

Notice that the layout has changed. I think it's kind of weird to deny any connection when it's so... well, obvious.

I was one of the people who commented that cowboysinlove reminded me of iharthdarth but I honestly didn't think it was a big deal. I never thought you were trying to steal another comic's fire or anytihng of the sort. Even if you HAD been inspired by it your comic is your own creation and I can certainly respect that.

Cheers. :)
