Halliwell Manor, Thanksgiving

Piper really loved Thanksgiving. It gave her an excuse to help Grams in the kitchen. It also gave her another reason to bake. Of course, there would be brownies. And various pies.

Mostly, she was grateful to have something to take her mind of recent events she'd been dealing with. She was somewhat nervous, though. She had handwavily invited ( Read more... )

Lindsey had seen some scary things during his time at Fandom High and after. Nothing had filled him with quite so much dread as meeting Piper's grandmother. Especially on a holiday. But here he was, on the doorstep, and it was too late to go back now. Might as well ring the doorbell, instead of standing out here all day, so that's what he did.

Lindsey tried to control his flailing by concentrating on cutting his turkey into weetiny pieces. "No! I didn't say that! I didn't even think that!"

Grams may have enjoyed his discomfort just a wee too much. "I suppose someone has to be available for the defense," she sniffed. "But how would you feel if you knew your client was guilty?"

Wow, the cranberry sauce on Lindsey's plate was very interesting. Or maybe eye contact was just a bit much at this point.

"I don't know! They still need representation, right? Or the whole system falls apart."

"True," Grams agreed. "But that kind of career path can lead straight to dealing with de...deadbeats."

That Lindsey could agree with. He nodded. "I know. Guess I'm hoping I'll luck out. Or get good enough to be able to pick and choose cases."

"I hope so, for your sake," Grams said. "Are you enjoying the food?"

Relieved to be back on safe conversation topics, at least for the moment, Lindsey grinned and nodded. "I am. It's all wonderful. Thank you again."

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you," Grams said. "You didn't have plans to go see your own family in...Oklahoma, was it?"

"It's good to meet you too, ma'am. I was supposed to go home, but," Lindsey said, shrugging, "I couldn't resist Piper's offer. Promised my mother I'd stay extra at Christmas, so I'm hoping she'll forgive me by then."

"How big is your family?" Grams asked. "What do your parents do?"

"There's four of us kids," Lindsey answered after a pause. "So my mother's had her hands full with kids most of the time I was growing up. And my father...he's worked a lot of jobs." Hoping that was enough of an answer, he turned his attention back to his food.

"I know how your mother feels," Grams said, nodding sagely. "I had my hands full with just Prue, Piper, and Phoebe here, and now Paige. So how old are your siblings?" she added, forcing you to make up canon. ;)

"They're all younger," Lindsey answered merrily making up canon and hopefully not contradicting anything he'd said earlier. "14, 12, and the little one will be 9 soon."

"So you're the first to leave the nest?" Grams said. "Fandom must've been quite a change from your home."

"I think that island's got to be a change from anybody's home," Lindsey said. "But yeah, definitely different. And now there's LA which is different in a completely new way. Gong home's been a pretty serious culture shock every time."
