OOC INFORMATION

Okay, "Discedo?"
Discedo is a pan-fandom survival horror game, leaning more towards the survival side of things: your characters arrive in a post-apocolyptic world with the clothes on their back and little else, and are challenged to both survive and improve their lives here-as difficult as those lives may be, because Discedo really isn't a nice place to live, between the monsters, decay, natural disasters, and ghosts.

What, you thought it'd be easy?

How serious/silly is this game? What about Plots?
We allow and encourage absolutely anything you can come up with and pull off, although because of the setting-there's a lack of food and resources and monsters everywhere-we tend to fall a little bit more on the "serious" side of things, with plots being fairly dark most of the time: characters get attacked, killed, emotionally abused, and so on. We do have many lighter plots and weird/crack antics in between heavier plots-we thrive on breather episodes-but the base of the game is fairly serious.

How do characters communicate?
Each character upon arrival is given a communicator, a device about the size and shape of a Nintendo DS XL. There's more about them here, but communicators allow characters to talk to one another throughout the city, as well as post messages and send video and files. OOCly, this is done through character journals, with each entry being an network post. Communicators can be upgraded in various ways, to improve their range and the like.

Of course, characters can also meet and speak in person, either in a log or through an action post of another kind. Discedo does not have any voice translators, however, so characters are limited by whatever languages they speak and understand in canon. This is as big or small of a limitation you make of it: some just assume their characters can speak English, others have fun with them slowly learning. It's up to you! Communicators can translate text.

What kind of characters do you accept?
Currently Discedo accepts only canon characters from any fandom: no original characters and no AUs at this time, canon AUs excluded. We allow only one of each character to be apped, with the exception of canon AUs: for example, both the Kingdom Hears and Final Fantasy version of Cloud could be apped, but not Cloud from FF7 and Advent Children.

Any character can be otherwise apped, so long as they have enough canon information to write an application for them, and have had some sort of appearance/personality in canon. A Hetalia character with a design and decent amount of character notes is acceptable, a character with no official design or a Nyotalia sketch with no notes as to her personality is not. When in doubt, ask!

What about animals/robots/ghosts?
So long as they have a distinct voice (so long as you can write a first person sample, even if they don't "talk"), they're appable! They will not be given new bodies or forms when arriving in Discedo-a cat will remain a cat, a robot will remain a robot. As for characters without forms, like ghosts, they will "lose" that status while chipped, while not changing their form. A ghost might no longer be able to float or go through walls because of their chip, but would still not be human.

How do I apply?
Go right over here and fill out an application! Apps are currently processed every Sunday, so long as the application was submitted before 12:01 AM Eastern Standard Time.

How many characters can I apply for?
You can have up to seven at one time, and app for one a week.

Can I play multiple characters from the same canon?
Yes, so long as they aren't characters that would interact on a regular basis. No picking two best friends, or two mortal enemies. You can also only play two from the same canon; if you want a third, you'll have to drop one.

What about Alternate Universe versions of characters, or characters with previous game history?
We do not allow that at this time. Canon only, please.

What are the activity requirements?
Currently Discedo requires one (1) post and one (1) thread a month, either on a post or as part of a log. The thread must exist outside of your own post, and be at least 10 comments long. Logs count! Activity check is run from the 1st to 7th of each month; all activity must be submitted by the 7th.

What are the rules for posting??
Anything goes! If there is excessive large font, sparkling, or otherwise big and distracting, we prefer it to be under a cut. Images should also be behind a cut, as with any embedded music and the like.

We'd also ask that you put anything possibly inappropriate under a cut as well-anything super violent, sexual, or otherwise highly "rated"-as well as warned for. We allow most content, but ask that you respect other players! The same goes for content on the logs community: if it is rated higher than PG-13, warn for it, and lock anything sexual.

Is there a player age limit for this game?
Not really! We'd prefer people to be over 13, but we have no rules about it and trust our players to keep their content appropriate and labeled with warnings when it's needed. We will remind you about this if we see it.

How do I canon update or reset?
Pretty easy! Talk to a mod about it, and we'll almost always say yes. Just tell us what you're updating or resetting to and if there's a big change in character personality we should know about. Then re-comment to the taken characters list (and any other lists you need to) with the updated information.

NOTE: Characters who leave or a canon update or reset will leave Discedo for a full week, and if they were unchipped, they will be chipped again when they return. After all, they're going through the scientists again!

What's this about a chip?
Every character in Discedo is given a chip when they arrive. It's the size of a camera battery and hidden somewhere in their body-the location moves now and then. The chip quite simply suppresses all supernatural powers: the ability to summon fire, or fly, or be immortal, or change into a goat. It does not, however, hamper natural abilities. Someone who is very strong and has great reflexes will still have both. A vampire will still be a vampire.

Chips can be removed by a doctor or someone else who knows where to go digging, after which the character will suffer about a week of side effects before regaining their abilities (if they have any). See here for more details.

Do robots get chips?
Yes. They still do have chips, but the chips don't work in the same way. In cases of cyborgs/modified humans, they are chipped normally. In the case of robots, the scientists also (or instead) mess with their systems that grant them powers/abilities, which can be repaired.

My character doesn't have any superpowers or abilities! Does he still get a chip?
Yup. Rumor has it the scientists also use them for tracking people. Everyone in the city is given one, no exceptions. In addition, the chips protect people outside of the city from 'conceptual fish', which feed on emotions and personality. As long as it's in, you're safe. See the monster guide for more details.

So, who are these "scientists," anyway?
Scientist is the general term for the people running the show in Discedo-the group of men and women who brought you here, gave you your communicator, and set you lose in the world. Not a whole lot is known about them or their motivations-which also vary between scientist to scientist-but they're survivors of the world before it went to hell.

They bring people here, revive them when they die, put chips in them, supply the stores, vaccinate them, and occasionally mess with characters just to break up the boredom. Currently there are three:

Q, a Discedo native who recently returned from traveling.
Lolita, a mysterious and not altogether sane young woman.
and Knowlton, who actually isn't a scientist at all, but has recently allied himself with them.
They claim to be on the resident's side, but aren't exactly fondly regarded: after all, they did kidnap you.

How do characters live?
Any way you want! There are a few buildings that have been cleaned and refurbished, with room for newcomers. They can also find their own building to squat in-be careful of monsters and rotting floorboards-or build their own house if so inclined. There's not much electricity or running water, so bundle up!

The scientists provide basic food items and supplies, and stores can be looted for additional equipment with some effort, but characters are also encouraged to build or make their own things, go hunting, and so on. Check out the setting post and supplies/requests post for a little more information!

That… sounds kind of uncomfortable.
It is. Characters do not, frankly, have the means to keep perfectly clean, do their laundry easily, or even turn on a light or run the stove. It is possible to repair or fix these things, however, and all the living spaces and electricity in the game has been done 100% by player effort!

Is there money? Jobs?
Characters can work informally, by themselves or with others, but there's no formal job system or money. Discedo works on a lose barter system or simply on goodwill and scavenging. It's hard enough work to just survive, after all.

What language does everyone speak?
Whatever languages they already speak. Discedo doesn't have a magical translator; characters are limited by their own language abilities. For this reason, language classes are a popular service. Communicators can and do automatically translate text/typed words, but spoken language is entirely up to you. The barrier is as big or as small an issue as you want it to be: some players enjoy having theirs learn English or Japanese or whatever, others just assume they already can speak it.

My character is from a fantasy world that doesn't use an earth language!
Usually in cases like this, muns handwave that their language is awfully close to English or some other language. It's up to you!

How do plots work?
Discedo tends to have three types of plots. The first is the player plot-where players get together and decide to do something. These are run entirely between players, with mods only stepping in if there's something "big"-like wanton destruction-to handle.

Players can also suggest more in-depth plots here, involving powers, murder rampages, plots to capture the scientists, or whatever else. We try to do as many of them as we can, and love getting them!

The second type of "plot," and most common, is the "chip plot." When a character's chip is taken out, their powers go temporarily haywire, which can lead to destruction, death, or just plain weird side effects. Smaller chip plots-those that would only affect the character getting the chip removed and those immediately around them-are handled independently, but larger ones (that affect the entire game) are scheduled by the mods (and then run independently).

The third kind is, of course, the mod plot. These tend to be once every month to six weeks, large, more intensive, and go in "arcs." For example, the Hollisland plot took part in two halves, with a conclusion part after that. While no plot is mandatory, participation is highly encouraged.

I want to do --, but there's something else going on!
We have a player calendar here, which we keep updated with upcoming events, and try to give a week's warning before larger events. In most cases, however, there's nothing stopping you from doing whatever you have planned, unless of course ICly your character couldn't or wouldn't due to events in the city.

IC INFORMATION

Where is Discedo?
Discedo is a city on the planet Fortuna. It has a temporal climate, and is bordered by a large lake to the north and west, a huge forest to the east, and plains to the south. There are mountains visible to the east and south. See the setting and info page for more!

Can I leave?
Yes… and no. Discedo has a docks, and some have built ships and boats that can be used to explore. Discedo has a highway running through it-one that is cut off to the west due to a broken bridge, and is grown over and broken to the east. Roads also exist leading out of the city to the south, similarly grown over.

Characters are free to explore, but food and supplies are scarce, and the monsters are stronger and bigger outside of the city. Exploring is dangerous, and going too far is risky. Still, it can be done, and characters have discovered other cities and locations when they have! If your character wants to leave, check with a mod and then prepare the trip! We can even try and come up with sights to see on the expedition.

Why is the world so messed up?
It's largely a mystery. We know there was a war between Discedo and the nearby city-state of Accido, and a deadly virus called Atropos… but beyond that? No one knows. Yet.

Why are we here?
No one is really sure. Smart money is on the scientists trying to use you for labor.

What's this about monsters?
Discedo and the surrounding areas are littered with monsters, some large, some small. Some are more dangerous than others, some are even edible, but none of them are exactly friendly. Don't go outside unarmed or unready to run if you don't want to be hurt or killed.

You can find more information about them here!

What if my character dies?
There's no fairy tale ending. Everything goes black. And then the scientists revive you. If you die, for a full 24 hours, you're dead. No posts, no comments, no nothing. The scientists move your body and revive you. Then they ship you off to the hospital, where you wake up, communicator back at your side.

If you die for a second time, the same thing happens, only the revival takes 48 hours. A third time? Another day. A fourth? Four days. A fifth? Well… no one's ever died that often. Rumor has it, you don't want to.

When you're revived, we allow leeway for injuries-you can either be still bruised and knocked around, or as good as new. Same with scars-you can have them, or you can't. It's up to you. If any limbs were lost during/prior at any point to the death it's up to the player if the limb has been regenerated or not upon revival.

What if my character is dead in canon?
They'll be alive in Discedo. If they died in a particularly messy way (say, were hacked into little bits), they'll arrive intact and with all their limbs, unless you the mun decide otherwise. It's also up to you how injured or healthy they are when they arrive.
