Just a question about chips and I apologize if this is up somewhere but I haven't been able to find it.
If a character's power revolves around materializing equipment or items through non-magical means, for instance a Power Ranger's morphing or Samus Aran's power suit, will that be suppressed by the chip as well?
In the past, character who have relied on devices - like a Power Ranger, to use that example - to transform have either arrived without the devices needed, or with them broken or smashed up by the scientists. If the character can get it fixed in the city, they can feel free to transform without getting their chip removed.
First, I'm really interest in seeing if Quatre can't build a generator. Whether or not he can and how big it could be would obviously depend on what kinds of materials he could find. If it's understood that he wouldn't be able to obtain the necessary materials, then he won't be able to do so (I have a post where he asks if anyone knows anything about electronics, but it's fairly clear he's not hiding a generator in his apartment or anything). So that's my first question. Can he find the materials to make a generator (IE, to build a motor or use an existing motor, etc). If so, how big?
Second, this sounds silly, but I can't find it. What kinds of appliances exist in Discedo? Are there refrigerators in every apartment? I think I've handwaved their existence in minor ways (IE, 'he set the cup on the refrigerator' not 'he got a cold drink out of the refrigerator), but now I realize I don't have a clue if that's accurate.
He can, if only by scrapping parts - characters have done it in the past, although it's a slow process. As long as he's shown spending time (a month or more!) on it, however, it's fine. Size depends on time you're willing to invest, but we've had people build solar panels and electricity generators for the apartment buildings in the past, if that's what you had in mind.
Most basic modern appliances exist - refrigerators, toasters, microwaves, coffee makers, etc. They're largely in disrepair and don't have the electricity/water lines to run them in many cases, but they do exist. I wouldn't say that every apartment has all of them or even most of them (save maybe smelly, broken fridges, since they're harder to move), but they're not utter rarities.
As a side note, not all of the buildings have electricity - right now I believe that only the High School, Northern Lights Bar, and Latimir have it.
Okay! That is all incredibly helpful, thank you! I would really be interested in having him pursue this, if it's all right. I understand that it will take a lot of time and effort and I'm currently trying to see if I can't have some more characters help so it's not one character's effort alone.
Gotcha. I feel like I read that somewhere, but I couldn't find it (sorry to have bothered you with what might have been a redundant question if that is the case).
Quatre's in Marshall, which as far as I know is in the worst disrepair of all the apartments (is that right?). That's where he'd be working.
If you could tell us what exactly he's planning to do (when you decide it), we can tell you how long it'd take. Saying about a month is a good estimate, though. As for the "worst" building...
Haha, I actually don't know about that. /thinking. Latimir is notorious for getting beaten up in events, but has all the fascilities. Horton has the least damage, but has only heat and water. Marshall is somewhere in between and has only heat and water (but not heated water). So I guess you're right, actually! - In any case, go right ahead! This kind of stuff is totally encouraged.
Really sorry if this is answered elsewhere (knowing me, it probably is), but I just wanted to check about the policy on reapping. Do you require totally new samples?
I had a question regarding apping this character here :| {...} is well, a zombie. As such he does not need to eat and by all means is dead. However, I'm wondering what effects the chip, and the scientists bringing him in would have on that.
Would he still be a zombie but simply be re-confined to human needs and conventions? A zombie by every sense without the chip having effects? Or would the scientists be able to make him completely living?
I just want to be sure I'm on the right track with this.
The chip suppresses powers and abilities but doesn't change the physical form, so you could have some freedom in deciding what it did-he wouldn't necessarily become "human," and he would be able to die and be killed, and may need some form of sustenance to keep him going if previously he ran on "magic." Any healing abilities or the like would be suppressed, however. (I'm unfamiliar with the canon, so I'm sorry I can't be more specific.)
