MONSTER GUIDE
(
navigation. )
Here at Discedo, the streets aren't safe: monsters make home in the city just as much as the people do, and in fact outnumber them. This page exists to name and explain the monsters of Discedo, as well as try to show where and how often you'll run into them.
Note: We realize that some information has changed or even been retconned. While we don't like to do it, it's become needed in order to keep things easy-to-understand and accurate, and hope everyone adjusts to the changes. Do note that monsters have always been here, if not these exact ones and in the exact places, however.
Most of Discedo's monsters are imported into the city, much like the residents are. It's unknown if it's the scientists doing so, but if they are, they do it a lot. Monsters are usually added to the game by player submission. When "applications" for monsters are open, we'll let everyone know!
DISCEDO MONSTERS
A ✓ indicates that, if killed, the monster is safe to eat.
A ✖ indicates that the monster is extremely rare and requires mod permission to encounter.
Monsters found in any part of Discedo:
Keese: Bats, attacking by biting or scratching. Not very strong.
Wolf: They attack by biting and ramming themselves into you. ✓
ReDead: Before they are even seen, ReDeads make their presence known with low-pitched moans. They normally stand or sit in the fetal position until you approach, at which they will rise and slowly shuffle towards you. When they get close enough, they will paralyze you with a bone-chilling scream, jump onto your back, and bite your head and neck repeatedly. Will be most prominent in the church and graveyard.
Yellow/Blue Puni: Puni are a gelatinous, magical creature. They were generally small and weak, although a big one may appear occasionally. Blue puni can cast weak water/ice magic. When killed, they drop a small magic stone. ✓
Marionette: Basic "foot soldiers of evil". The "demonic" part of the Marionette is the strings, which seem to fall from out of nowhere. However, damage to the puppets themselves also kills the spirits. Marionettes almost always attack as groups and some use thrown edged weapons in battle. They will leap up and wrap themselves around enemies to take them down or use their strings to suspend and incapacitate them. They can be defeated fairly easily, however, as they have no defense to speak of and no intelligence.
Cowardly Maya: A shadowy creature who is a mass of writhing limbs. Attacks with knives and the occasional ice spell.
Rapan: Described as "man eating rabbits". They're white and the size of a polar bear. They're strong enough to make rubble rise from the floor. They'll attack anyone coming their way.
Creeper
wikiSquare monsters covered in pixelated green camouflage, they have an affinity for gloomy places from where they can sneak up on prey unnoticed. This won't stop them from chasing a spotted victim across fields in the daylight. Once you've been spotted you're in their sights they'll be hard to shake. When they get close enough they hiss before exploding. Might want to watch where you stand...
Flying fish
wikiCareful! Those fish shooting out of the water aren't harmless! These flying fish flit out of the water with ease, taking aim and dive-bombing any threats.. It's a good thing they're not too hard to defeat... If you can hit them. ✓
Mooshroom
wikiRed spotted cows with mushrooms growing all over their coats, these cows might be the most non-aggressive creatures you run into in Discedo, but they're also one of the more dangerous. While they can be milked for milk or a hearty bowl of mushroom stew, eat the mushrooms on them raw and you might be seeing the world in 4-D. Or finding yourself in some need of express medical attention. It's a fun acid trip while it lasts? ✓
Prinny
WikiLook where you're going, DOOD! These strange Frankenstein penguins are hardly your every day companion. The bat wings and peg legs might be a giveaway for starters. Of course so might the machetes they have a habit of carrying. Prinnies have a positive, if lazy personality, often interjecting their sentences with 'dood'. The most deadly thing about them is perhaps the fact they explode on impact when thrown. Watch your step, dood.
Sentinels
wiki imageShadowy figures that fly through the air and jump around on the ground like lost birds, be careful or you might find yourself losing an item or two! They'll often hang just out of distance before rushing in with a strong flap of their wings to beat others away from whatever item's caught their eye. Hit and run is the game with these creatures, as soon as they have what they want they'll try to fly high up to a rooftop with it out of reach. A few good whacks with a stick should do the trick for these thieves. They seem to be searching for something, but just what is hard to discern.
Squid
wikiThese water creatures might look harmless at first, but be careful around the lake! They've taken a liking to it. Don't get too close or you'll find yourself with a face full of ink! Be careful not to let them catch you in their waters first, or they'll swim straight for you. ✓
Turrets
wiki These sentry turrets might seem polite enough at first, but show yourselves to them and you'll be dodging bullets from their dual machine guns. Their weapons are normally hidden, so they tend to make use of their innocent, childlike voices and lure their victims out of hiding. If you want to avoid these powerful Aperture Science machines, stealth is your best advantage! Knock them over and render them useless!
Witch
wikiWho's this little lost girl? Maybe you don't want to know. Found most often in dark, quiet places, Witches can be heard sobbing to themselves. Approach though and you might not live to regret it. The close presence of others as well as unwelcome light sources causes this monster to go into a frenzy, attacking whoever's startled her with a superhuman strength, surprising speed and once she's managed to corner her agitator, lethal twelve inch long claws. Able to stand up to most blows, a shot to the head or fire works best on this one. Don't forget to kill your lights...
Yabby
wikiThey might look tempting to eat at first glance, but don't take these creatures lightly! These monstrous crustaceans sport impenetrable shells, and can parry attacks by flexing its body. If you go after these guys, be prepared to put your spirit to the test! Oh, and watch out for those pincer-like claws. ✓
Monsters found only in the red areas:
Behemoth: Extremely large and powerful four-legged creatures. Attack using claws, horns, teeth, and magic.
Fusion Shark: This shark-type noise "swims" under the ground, waiting for the right moment to surface and try to bite or ram their prey from behind, or slice them with their sharp fins. They can also shoot small projectiles by "splashing" back underground.
WORLD MONSTERS

A ✖ indicates that the monster is extremely rare and requires mod permission to encounter.
Monsters found near cities
Behemoth: Extremely large and powerful four-legged creatures. Attack using claws, horns, teeth, and magic.
Chocobo: Chocobo cannot be defeated in battle-however, they can be caught and ridden around the city. However, given that they're wild, they won't just calmly surrender! They're usually accompanied by monsters, and can be tamed (but that requires effort and training)! If tamed, their eggs are edible. ✓ ✖
Mad Cow: A highly aggressive species of cow. If disturbed, they will not hesitate to gore you with their horns. ✓
Monsters found far from cities
Tonberry: Resembles a bi-pedal lizard wearing a brown cloak. Slow-moving, but deals extreme damage; can easily kill in one hit. Attacks with a knife. ✖
Giant Scorpion: These giant insects inhabit inhabit various environments, from caves to deserts to old waterways, and are slightly larger than the average horse. They have immensely sharp claws and jaws, and are capable of breathing out freezing cold winds (which can paralyzing whatever unfortunate soul that happens to stand in the way). They are most notorious, however, for their venomous tail stings. Scorpions are carnivores by nature, and will eat anything and everything smaller than them. Unfortunately, their diet usually includes people. They are fast and relentless, and though they have poor eyesight their hearing is top-notch, as well as their sense of smell. If their target happens to vanish from earshot, they will continue to track them down via their scent until either they capture their prey, find something easier to kill, or simply lose interest. (Plains only.)
Malboro: Plant-like creature with tentacles. Attacks using a toxic cloud capable of injuring and killing within seconds. (Forest only.)
Lake Zone Monsters:
Orca: It's an orca. A giant fucking orca. Its so badass its even got horns. Holy shit. This thing's gonna kill you all. ✓

DISSIMULO:
Ferals
wikiPowerful, skinless dogs who drip fresh blood wherever they go, these nightmarish creatures are agile, constantly on the move and looking for that next meal. They can most often be found cleaning the flesh off dead corpses, but they're not above taking down a living creature if they sense weakness. Encountered both individually and in packs, they attempt to pin their targets to the ground and go for the kill. Luckily they're no stronger than your average dog. Keep your cool, grab a make-shift weapon and you'll most likely survive another day.
Mooshroom

Thestral
wiki For those who have witnessed death, you may spot a new creature roaming around. Don't mind if your innocent friend can't see these beasts just yet. Surely in a place like this, death is hard to avoid. These horse-like animals have a skeletal body, a reptilian face and wide, leathery wings that resemble a bat's. They might be considered majestic... in a dark sort of way. Just don't bleed within a mile of these beasts or you might find their sharp teeth having a sample or twelve of your flesh.
Turrets
wiki These sentry turrets might seem polite enough at first, but show yourselves to them and you'll be dodging bullets from their dual machine guns. SPERO:
'Angels'
wikiThere's no mercy to these divine beasts, merely wrath and a deep feeling of rage. It seems someone's gone and ticked these creatures off to the point they're angry with the whole world. Serpent-dragon creatures with no limbs save for wings, these creatures have a nasty habit of swooping down and aiming to bite off anything they can get. A finger, your throat, there's some payback to be had here and they don't care where they get it! While only average in the speed department and not much to brag about in strength, they do have a certain durability that would drive anyone crazy. It's going to take quite a few hits to take these guys down. Maybe if you just leave them alone they'll go away...

Drag Tentacle
wikiThese beasts hide anywhere possible, they lurk about where you least expect them and strike instantaneously at you. Once they have their hold it's near impossible to escape their grasps. Better hope you're a good shot with a cool head and aim for the yellow sacks pulsating from their lengths to break free. Their tentacles can expand for a seemingly indefinite distance and drag you toward its bowels. Hence the name Drag Tentacle. Once you have reached the mouth it will tear and eat you until your death.
Flying fish
wikiCareful! Those fish shooting out of the water aren't harmless! These flying fish flit out of the water with ease, taking aim and dive-bombing any threats.. It's a good thing they're not too hard to defeat... If you can hit them. ✓
Giant Germ
wiki **found only in the hospital**
Did you cough just now? Better hope not. These giant germs might be lurking around. Able to grow up to the size of a full adult man, these giant germs often call upon eachother for help. Get rid of one and you might just find yourself facing two more. While not particularly powerful, if you're not careful you could soon find yourself being smothered in a swarm. Remember to wash your hands afterwards...
Insidious Ruin
wikiThat slime on the floor just ahead might look harmless at first, but step too close and you'll find yourself face to face with this baby-faced creature. With doll heads and engines that pump out smog, this slimy Ruin attacks by swiping at its victims. Give them a good slash with a blade or a powerful hit and they'll return to the mess they came from.

CONCEPTUAL FISH
As it turns out, the chips have another purpose besides blocking your powers and messing with your emotions; they also act as a shield from the conceptual fish. What are those?
They're fish. Sea creatures, really, made of words and thoughts and feeding on your mind, sense of self, emotions, you name it. Inside Discedo, you're safe-there's a
net around Discedo keeping you safe. Outside of Discedo? You're on your own. There are ways to protect yourself from fish attacks, but there's no way to fight them off or kill them. They aren't real, you see.
To prevent a fish attack without your chip, you need to basically surround yourself with white noise: tape players with random chatter or clicks make good walls, for example. Note that there's a decent chance of running into fish whenever you leave the city, but it's not guaranteed, and the longer you're out, the higher the odds get… without a shield, that is.
A ✓ indicates that, if killed, the monster is safe to eat.
A ✖ indicates that the monster is extremely rare and requires mod permission to encounter.
There are several types of fish, all taking the basic shape of an existing sea creature:
Stingray: Leave rainbows in their wake. Harmless.
Lampray: Makes you physically sick to the nth degree. Fever, vomiting, diarrhea, disorientation. Nothing will stay in your system and you'll think that the flu is out to kill you. no medicine will help you either. It won't kill you, but you will feel like SHIT. It will last 2-3 days.
Electric Eel: Electrocute you. More pain than the chips caused. On the bright side, if you're depressed, this might help a bit.
Jellyfish: First, it's going to hurt like a motherfucker when you're stung. Immediate migraine with no reprieve. Within 5 minutes the edges of your vision will go dark. You have about a few seconds to wonder if you're going to die or not. Don't worry, you're not. You're just going into a deep sleep… Which is accompanied by bad dreams. During this time, characters can't be wakened by physical or chemical means. They will be asleep for three days.
Flying Fish: Do absolutely nothing, but if you come across a school of them, you'll get smacked in the face by one. So basically it'll be like you got hit in the face with a small fish.
Piranha: Will cause small headaches here and there that lead you to be progressively more forgetful. Starts out in instances where you can't remember where you put something, that you had something to do, holding something that you're searching everywhere, progressing to where you forget everyone's names. Not as dangerous as sharks unless you encounter a very large school of them.
Clown Fish: These fish feed off irritation, annoyance, anxiety, and frustration. Get in a school of clownfish and you'll be the most mellow person ever.
Pilot Fish: They follow the sharks. Whereas the sharks attack the sense of identity, pilot fish will feed off of emotions-literally. After a shark attacks, a person will start to lose their empathy and ability to connect with people. The most extreme consequence of a pilot fish/shark combo is becoming, essentially, a sociopath. On their own, they still feed on empathy, but they're not that big or aggressive, so people can recover easily if they are normally an empathetic person. Otherwise it will take some time depending on the severity of the attack.
Sharks: Attacks are accompanied by vivid hallucinations of drowning, parts of your mind literally being ripped out, and desperate attempts to swim to safety. Characters can break free... at first. Ludovicians (as they're more properly known) are notoriously obsessive with their prey, so if they've already found you (or worse, taken a bite out of your very identity as an individual), they will pursue you ruthlessly until there is nothing left but an empty shell of who you once were. And these sharks are hungry. Once they find you, they're just going to relentlessly pursue you until they've consumed every aspect of your identity and life. ✖
