I did manage to wake up for the rare
Aurigid meteor shower that I
wrote about the other day. And, I even managed to see a number of streaks across the sky from my brightly lit street. They reported
live from the planes as part of the Aurigids project. They claimed a calculated ZHR at peak of 100. I hope to see the photos from the planes'

I think I'm in trouble. Ever since the lunar eclipse I've been thinking about telescopes. At Costco yesterday I caught myself lovingly caressing the otherwise craptacular 70mm Meade refractor they had on display. I would love something with a tracking mount, and even the cheap ones have them these days.
This can not end well.

Not to help (well, maybe) with the "this can not end well", but if you really do want to look at telescopes, head over to Orion Telescopes over on De Anza in Cupertino. They have some nice Celestron and Orion scopes.
