This week has been quite full. It included both planned and unplanned events. Hopefully I'll find time to write more about them, though they may just linger as a list.

Stitches West (big knitting expo) is this weekend. I originally thought I'd be recovering from surgery now and not able to go. But, I'm not. So, I am. It's a time for me to see old friends and to avoid buying anything (I'm not really knitting these days). I hope to be able to go when other friends are there. The beautiful airborne observatory SOFIA (a white Boeing 747) was flying over Mountain View and Palo Alto today. I caught a glimpse of the plane with its F/A-18 escort in Palo Alto (possibly on its way back to KNUQ Moffett Field) while driving back from the Traditions in Swing class. I thought I might not see the sky tonight since I haven't been feeling so hot. But, I decided to head out for a bit. I attempted to take a look at Saturn, though it's near the bright moon right now. In between bouts of abdominal pain, I took a quick peek at the Pleiades. I should have gone out earlier when they would have been closer to the horizon, especially since I wasn't bringing out the tripod tonight. It was still nice to see; I'll look again another night.

I did manage to wake up for the rare Aurigid meteor shower that I wrote about the other day. And, I even managed to see a number of streaks across the sky from my brightly lit street. They reported live from the planes as part of the Aurigids project. They claimed a calculated ZHR at peak of 100. I hope to see the photos from the planes' ( Read more... )
