Jesusita Fire Update
I made it home from STC '09 in Atlanta last night, and have now recovered from my jet lag enough to update you all on the Jesusita fire up in Santa Barbara. According to the fire chief, "all hell broke loose" last night, which we could tell even from Ventura due to the giant smoke and ash plumes to the north. Hopefully the last fire update for a while
The Tea Fire is 95% contained and expected to be fully contained by this evening. The Sylmar Fire is still 40% contained. And the Santa Anas seem to finally be dying down. -
Gaining ground on the fires
The Tea Fire moved a little last night and is now up to 1940 acres. They've also got a more accurate count of residences burned, up to 210. They've finally posted the address lists as well, and it doesn't look like my landlords or Lauren and Albert lost their homes. All in all, things are dying down on that front ( Read more... ) -
Fires Update
So the fire in Santa Barbara hasn't really moved in about a day. They've revised the acreage burned estimate to 1800 acres, and established that 111 residences were destroyed and nine more were damaged. The yoga instructor at work is the only person I know who for sure lost her home, though I think my landlords might have lost theirs as well, and ( Read more... ) -

Tea Fire Morning Update
After checking the news this morning, I decided to go into work. The wind has died down, so instead of flames we have a massive smoke/fog blanket like you would not believe. Last time I drove through smoke this thick was when Miramar MCAS was burning by the house during the San Diego fires three or four years ago. I used my steroid inhaler when I ( Read more... ) -
Tea Fire
I called jessimuhka as I was leaving work today, and right as I got on the freeway I was like, "I think there might be a fire up ahead." One exit further south and I was like, "Yep, I can see flames." It took at least six or seven more exits before I was in line with the fire on the freeway.
