As Yesung woke up the next morning he felt calmer. The intensity of the final nightmare still tugged at his bones but he felt better. So he brushed off Ryeowook's worried gazes and questions with a small smile as they went to the kitchen for breakfast.
It helped him a lot to know that he was welcomed with warm smiles and gentle gestures instead of alone in dark allys with cold walls that had been there every time he opened his eyes the last few years.
Smiling lightly he sat down next to Ryeowook and filled his bowl with cereal. He hummed quietly, enjoying the provided peace.
"Someone's in a good mood today," mused Sungmin, as he sat down on Yesung's other side nudging him lightly.
"Surprisingly it feels good," smiled Yesung, grabbing the milk from Eunhyunk.
"Telling, I mean."
Indeed it surprised the young lycan how much pressure was lifted from his shoulders after last night. Sure, he hadn't told them everything but what he did share was a large piece of his past that he hadn't shared with anyone until then. It might have just been two little facts but they meant a lot to him. And the nightmares are much easier to handle without loneliness and fear lingering around.
"So what are the plans for today?" Leeteuk smiled at them.
"Cinema with Hangeng," Heechul answered promptly, mouth still half full. "Anyone else want to tag along?"
They all shook their heads; nobody in his right mind would go together with those two.
"That reminds me, I haven't asked what time we are meeting up," Heechul continued, searching for his cell phone in his pockets as he stood up and left the kitchen.
"So the rest of us are staying home?" Leeteuk concluded, looking around. "We could watch a few films or play games, it's Saturday after all. Or we could - "
"Hey," Heechul suddenly shouted, cutting through Leeteuk's words.
"Kibum wants to know if you have time," the red haired poked his head into the kitchen, giving Yesung a grin.
"There is a small shopping mall near the cinema, Kibum wants to meet up there. I could take you, so you won't get lost."
Blushing lightly as the whole room suddenly stared at him in amusement, he nodded.
"Great," Heechul nodded. "Yeah, he will come."
Laughing out loud at something Hangeng said the red haired winked at Yesung and turned around, leaving the kitchen again.
It was maybe four hours later when they were all gathered in the living room again.
Heechul and Yesung ready to go out and the rest squeezed onto the small couch in front of the television, a pile of movies in front of them.
"Have fun," Donghae waved at them, barely able to move his arm in the bulk.
"And watch out," added Sungmin from somewhere unseen as both lycans left the house.
***********
"They're late," muttered Heechul mopiily, kicking around little stones on the ground as he walked up and down the small pavement in front of the cinema .
Yesung smiled, "It's just one minute past two, Heechul."
"One minute and thirty seconds," came the murmured answer, before the older lycan turnd around abruptly.
"One minute thirty-five," Yesung commented laughing as he saw Hangeng and Kibum coming down the street.
"Sorry," the peroxide blonde vampire spoke as soon as they arrived. "We are hanging behind a bit."
Laughing quietly at Heechul's grumpy face Yesung turned around.
"We'll see you later then," he called, pulling Kibum along away from the cinema and the two bickering figures in front of it.
Kibum snickered quietly at Yesung as he followed the lycan down the street, obviously amused at the younger's rush to leave their friends.
They were walking straight ahead into a small park, both keeping the silence as they could smell the first arrivals of spring lingering in the air.
"How are you?" Kibum asked with a worried tone after a few minutes of walking in silence, clearly remembering the state the younger one was in last night.
"Slept alright?"
"Not really," Yesung sighed, sitting down on a nearby bench. "Quite a few nightmares."
Looking at the younger in alarm, Kibum sat down next to him, watching him with worried eyes.
Noting the worried look he got, Yesung laughed quietly. "Nothing too bad," he tried to calm Kibum, "They're getting better these days."
The young lycan took a deep breath in before he smiled softly at Kibum.
"It's nice to wake up with someone there, sending you small smiles, gentle gestures or a friendly word. I really prefer it to the cold streets and the fear of waking up and being caged somewhere."
"I'm sorry," he heard Kibum's whisper right next to him.
Yesung shok his head slowly. "Why are you sorry, it has nothing to do with you. There's nothing you have to be sorry about."
The young lycan looked up at the vampire, searching for his eyes, a light blush spreading over his cheeks.
"I'm thankful to you," he murmured and hesitately he reached out, taking Kibum's hand in his. "I don't know how but you helped me open up little by little."
The young lycan looked down again, playing unconsciously with the other's fingers as he was lost in his own thoughts.
The older one smiled gently, his hand staying in Yesung's as he looked up to the sky. He was happy the boy was talking more now, opening up and enjoying life at least a bit. He was sure the younger didn't deserve the treatment he got in the past and he was determindet to make it up to him.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, not feeling the need for a conversation as they just took in the rare, peaceful moment.
"So," Yesung broke the silence eventually, shivering lightly in the cold breeze of the arriving spring, "What should we do now?"
Breaking out of his daydreaming Kibum looked down at his companion, frowning lightly as he noticed the young lycan shivering.
"Maybe looking for something warm?" he wondered as he pulled Yesung up, ready to go. Suddenly, his vision got slightly blurry and fuzzy images started to flow through his mind.
What ...with you and ... thin clothing
Kibum blinked.
We don't want ... get ill, right?
Shaking his head violently Kibum grabbed Yesung's hand, leading him towards the mall while trying to block out the images in his head.
It couldn't be.
And what if...?
The small voice in his head piped up suddenly again.
You didn't know who he was other than a lycan and the age is fitting...
No, Kibum thought. He had learned to move on and he will not fall back again at any time, he swore to himself.
"Kibum?" A sudden voice caught his attention, "Everything alright?"
Looking down at Yesung Kibum stared for a moment before smiling. "Yeah, I just spaced out here a bit."
He stopped in front of a small cafè. "Want to go in there, it's a lot warmer I bet."
Still looking worriedly at Kibum Yesung nodded slowly, following the vampire into the cafè.
It was a small family-run cafè and it provided needed warmth as they stepped in.
A young waiter lead them to a small table by the window and both sat down.
Kibum was still a bit fidgety as he looked over the menu, debating with himself before lying his card down..
"Yesung?" he finally asked the younger one who was staring out of the window a small smile on his lips. "Can I ask you a few things?"
He knew the questions would be a bit aggravating for Yesung but he had to get a few things out of his mind.
"Sure," Yesung smiled, turning his attention away from the window. "What is it?"
"You're the son of the sovereign, right?" he started off and promptly felt guilty as he saw Yesung wincing quietly, but he had to know.
"So you where living at the castle in the north?"
He received a shaky nod as a reply, the younger looked down onto the table.
"How was it there?" Kibum asked gently, noting the shaking hand and light trembling of the other male. "You don't have to tell me, but I'm quite curious in this case."
There was silence for a few minutes, until Kibum saw Yesung swallow visibly. So he will talk. Kibum smiled.
"It is cold,"
Yesung spoke quietly, turning every word around in his mouth before speaking it out loud.
"Cold and dark. There's fighting in every corner of the corridors and a lot of screaming and roaring."
The younger shifted slightly in his seat.
"It was lonely, there were no other young lycans up there; I was the youngest in the pack so I didn't had any friends to play with."
"And your father?" Kibum asked softly.
Yesung's expression turned into stone in seconds.
"He is a mad man," he hissed. "An obsessed bastard who is hungry for as much power he can get his hands on. He wanted me to take over his throne one day so I could continue his regime of terror." The young lycan shuddered visibly.
"But I didn't want to do so."
Yesung's stone masked faltered slowly as he mumbled again.
"I didn't want ..."
Kibum nodded slightly, reaching over the table to took the younger's hand into his, stroking softly over the available skin.
"What about vampires?"
Yesung crumpled his face making Kibum almost laugh.
"My father hated them; all lycans hated them..." he looked down at Kibum's hand as he continued.
"I was taught to kill them. Take a dagger and impale them, straight through the heart. Take a bullet, a silver one, and shoot them without mercy." He spat out the words then was quiet for a while.
"I didn't really care," he finally whispered, looking up with pain in the eyes.
"I didn't really care..."
Kibum nodded again, continuing to stroke the other's hands gently as he searched for the lycan's eyes.
"Did you ever go out of the castle?"
Yesung could feel his own heartbeat quicken as he violently shook his head.
Panicking a bit, he pressed his eyes shut as flashes of laughter, green trees and a silver lake spread across his vision.
Just forget already, he begged himself, trying to run off the happy laughter echoing in his ears.
"So you never went out.." He heard Kibum's voice and nodded lightly.
Adverting his gaze he totally missed the pained look in Kibum eye's and the vanishing of the cracks of hope that had been there as the vampire smiled sadly.
Letting go of Yesung's hands after a short moment to let him finish his plate Kibum leaned back into his seat.
"Let's change subjects, it's getting way too depressing in here for my taste."
He laughed quietly as he payed the bill, shaking his head as Yesung wanted to get out the money he got from Leeteuk.
"I'll pay," the vampire smiled saying goodbye to the cashier before taking the younger's hand and leading them both out of the small cafè.
Yesung smiled at the gentle gesture of the older, noting the sun had come out completely. Feeling its rays on his skin he sighted in contentment, closing his eyes. The warmth coming from their linked hands only helped in spreading the cozy feeling through his whole body.
His eyes flew open as a sudden shiver rolled over him, leaving the lycan shaking as he looked around.
"You're still feeling cold?" He heard Kibum's worried question but he just shook his head.
"No." Looking around again his eyes fell onto Kibum, frowning lightly. "It's more like a bad feeling."
The young vampire looked questioningly at him before starting to look around, too. But he couldn't find anything out of the normal. He checked Yesung's beanie, making sure the ears where hidden securely before he took the other's hand again.
"Let's head home, perhaps you're just tired."
Nodding slightly, Yesung followed Kibum through the park; perhaps the vampire was right and he just needed a bit of sleep.
Suddenly there was a cold hand on his shoulder and Yesund released a sharp yell as he jumped. He felt himself getting pulled into the arms of a startled Kibum, as he clung to the vampire in shock.
"What the..?" he heard Kibum whispering and he carefully looked up, lifting his head out of the vampire's shirt.
"Thank goodness we found you," panted an out of breath Heechul. "Thank goodness."
"Are you alright?" the red haired lycan asked worriedly as he came over taking Yesung's face between his hands, turning it gently.
Totally taken aback by the sudden carefulness Yesung just manages to nod, sending Hangeng an questioning look. "What happened?"
The older vampire shook his head as Heechul let go of Yesung.
"Leeteuk just called, there was an attack."
***********
The way home way was a snarl of images and sounds as the four of them rushed through the streets.
Panting heavily, Yesung climbed down from Kibum's back. His legs wobbled a bit so he grabbed the vampire's sleeve to keep himself standing.
"Sorry," Kibum mumbled, helping him to stand. "But this way it was much faster."
The young lycan nodded in understanding as he saw Heechul out of the corner of his eye swaying and crashing into Hangeng; he too seemed to have a few problems with the full speed of a vampire.
"Ok." Heechul started walking after a short while, leading them closer to their home. "Hangeng will take the lead, Kibum will follow, Yesung stay between us and I'll take the rear."
Nodding slightly Yesung took his place between Heechul and Kibum as Hangeng was ready to storm through the door.
There was a crashing sound as the vampire smashed the already demolished door open, storming into the flat, ready to tear apart any foreign creature crossing his path.
But the living room was empty. The table was over-turned and lying smashed in the corner, a few cupboards were crushed and various objects were lying around the room.
A small trail off blood lead through the room and back out to the door they just stormed in through.
"Leeteuk?" Heechul called out, panic rising in his voice as he couldn't see their alpha at all.
"Kitchen!" came the quiet answer through the shattered door to their left.
Releasing their breaths they walked over, ignoring the smell of the foreign blood mixed with a tiny bit of familiar.
Yesung had barely entered the kichen as he felt himself being tugged into a bear hug. "Are you alright?" the eldest whispered into his ear with a teary voice.
The youngest felt a sense of deja vu, as he tried not to stare down at the new bandage framing Leeteuk's forearm.
"Yeah I'm ok," he whispered, looking around in the kitchen. "What about you?"
"Nothing to worry about," Leeteuk smiled and Kangin waved his hand lazyly at him as he finished patching up Sungmin's leg.
"We locked Donghae and Eunhyunk in their room to prevent them from more fighting," Sungmin laughed as he saw the grumpy faces of his fellow lycans.
"There weren't many of them so Leeteuk, Kangin, Ryeowook and I were able to take care of them."
The pink haired boy hopped down from the table, eyeing his bandaged leg, "The only problem we have is them knowing where we live."
"So what do we do now?" Eunhyunk asked finally after a few minutes of silence in which they all stared at the ground.
Yesung shifted uncomfortably. If it wasn't for him there wouldn't be any problem at all. If he hadn't come here they would still be living in peace.
"There wouldn't be a problem if I'm gone," he whispered eventually, staring holes in the floor. He couldn't take the others getting hurt because of him any longer.
He could feel their stares on him, making him want to dig a hole and hide in it.
"It's my fault after all, they want me not you..."
A sudden tug made him fall backwards as be crushed against Kibums chest. The vampire's arms were circled around Yesung's shoulders as he stared at the gathered lycans.
"That's out of question," laughed Heechul as he flicked the lycan's forehead. "You're family; it's not just Kibum who would be mad if you would leave."
"We just have to prepare. We're at an advantage after all; they don't know how large we are and that we have vampires, too," Heechul smirked.
"We're not letting you go anywhere so deal with it," smiled Donghae. He poked Yesung's nose before pulling back and wincing as he had used his broken wist, earning him a smack from Eunhyunk.
"See," he heard Ryeowook whisper to his right, "We'll get through it, together."
Yesung nodded lightly as he sniffed, feeling the tears taking over his eyes again as one drop rolled down his cheek.
"Thank you," he whispered, his voice cracking. "Thank you so much..."
